nupera: How much will it cost

Kindly call me and let us negotiate. If I post a price, other web designers will use it as a means to be haggling for a lower cost. As much as I can go economical for clients, I do not compromise quality.

This news should be on the front page

Description

For an neutral point of view on this social network, please look at Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LAGbook

Ladies And Gentlemen book (LAGbook) was created on the 17th of April 2010, and launched on the 25th of April, 2010 by my twin (Chidi) and I during our first semester at the University of Lagos.

The social network was initially created as an exclusive network for our University, and quickly grew to fame on our campus with over 3,000 students registered within the first 8 weeks of run.

Since then, we have expanded our reach subsequently and now have over a database of 750,000 members. LAGbook makes an average of $600 every month through our in-built advertising services. On June 2012, we struck an 8 weeks advertising deal with Blackberry Nigeria worth about $7,500. (See: http://news.yahoo.com/prominent-african-social-network-signs-deal-blackberry-nigeria-071009838.html)

As of writing, LAGbook costs about $230 per month to run.

What is LAGbook?

Ladies And Gentlemen book (LAGbook) is an online social discovery network where over 750,000 people around the world unwind, mix, connect with one another and share their daily experience.

We're Africa's leading social discovery utility in terms of user-size, daily signups, and popularity.

You can browse our people directory from A-Z at: http://www.lagbook.com/people

What’s Included:

Domain Names lagbook.com and lagbook.net
LAGbook Database (750k+)
LAGbook Brand
Facebook Page (14k)
Twitter (1.3k)

Reason for selling

We are currently working on our game development company.(See http://www.humanipo.com/news/1833/LAGbook-to-launch-Naija-Arts-an-online-game-maker-in-2013)

Initially, we wanted to run it alongside LAGbook. We wanted all our online game contents to be made available on LAGbook (which we still nurture). But creating 3-dimensional games is often tasking and needs total commitment and this is not good for LAGbook. So, we want to sell off into a hand that will give LAGbook all the attention that it deserves.

Running the site.

LAGbook requires little time to run at the moment since it is now self sustaining. It rakes in over 4,000 new members everyday, and costs thereabout $230 per month to keep online.

Revenue

We have been making our revenue chiefly through our self-run ad system. At the moment, we earn $600-$700 per month on average.

Is LAGbook Built from Ground up?

No. LAGbook is built on the generic social groupware platform GROU.PS, but over the years, LAGbook have built extensively on this platform with custom codes (HTML, CSS, Javascript) showcasing the full potential of what the platform can do. LAGbook inspired a Facebook-like template addition to the GROU.PS platform because of its fast growth. (See: techcrunch.com/2011/08/09/grou-ps-lets-you-create-your-own-private-facebook/)

Cool. I just think rather than the African map be redrawn to suite the lady's silhouette, it should have been done vice versa.

What you just said is very wrong. So if i tell you i have a headache will you make this same sily comment about me A sickness is a sickness, i know several beautiful young ladies that suffer extreme mood swings and behavioural imbalance so you knowing the OP makes no sense to us. Okay?

Stop being childish.

That's the problem with Nairaland. Someone comes up feeling more intelligent and tries to impose he/she is right about everything. Well I take it with a pinch of salt.

@Dominicpupuru. with no offence, here's my candid advice. Keep learning to be a better graphic artist. You are in no position to tutor anyone at the moment. I know you want to earn cash for designs you do but like I still would advise: learn more. Photoshop has unlimited possibilities.

In the music industry, we have some young acts like Wizkid, Skales, Olamide, etc. It's the Nollywood indusrtry that needs a overhaul. You still see Ramsey Noah,Emeka Ike playing college boys, when there are many fine and talented boys in our higher institutions that can do better.

Dewze: Thanks a lot velo for the tip. A schl is something tht is deeply on my mind. Just dont know any in particular here in lagos tht would help, considering the financial cost. I would like to earn some while learning on the job at thesame time. Like a freelancer kind. Doesn't matter the amount for now.
I would strongly appreciate it if you give me some recommendations or a bit more advice on this.

How about going to Shomolu(home of printing), look for a Graphic artist you can work with and learn from for like 2-3 months. You may have to pay him something but it's worthwhile.
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: Need Critics For My First Graphic Work (a flyer) by velo10: 2:20pm On Mar 08, 2013
I remember my first graphic design was similar to yours too. Can you enrol in a school or work in a design organisation so you can understand the rudimentary of Graphic Design? That will pay you like it did to me.

yawa-ti-de:
OP:
As a firm believer in the free market, I am all for you setting your prices as low as you want. One stipulation: make sure that after factoring in your time spent, hosting fees, maintenance time, etc., that you are still running a profit...a profit margin (as opposed to gross profit) that is enough for you to pay your bills with and have a little left over for a rainy day. All I ask is that your quality not be compromised. Remember though:

1) You are not a government, which means that you have no tax-generating base to make up for any losses.

2) Developing a website involves creating the graphics, meeting/talking to the client, actual coding, hosting fees, etc etc. The likes of web.com can do what they do because they have a large enough customer base that whatever losses they make can be made up for by their other ventures.

Thanks Yawatide. It's all these cheap web designing course that teaches you the rudimentary of Dreamweaver that led to this. Perhaps if they spent like 150k to enrol in Aptech or NIIT, they'll think twice about their charitable offer. Well I won't blame them sha. When I started I did websites for 10k and one for free just to build my portfolio. grin grin grin
