You dont know Nigeria government that is why you are talking like this
Same thing happened to me, i even sent the receipt of the purchase from amazon, they refused and insisted that i must pay 473k to clear my goods. They extimated my goods to be 600 pounds, everything is even less than 180.

I know them and how terrible they can be, but I have also seen people who have successfully corrected this.
I recently had to pay 1.2m for something I was to pay about 800k for. I paid because the package was urgent for a health purpose, if not I would have dragged it. I already sent a protest letter to the Area Comptroller, my loss anyway.

Things don't work as they are supposed to

people dont pay customs for gift items. The sipper should have paid everything including flights. It's wrong to ask receiver to pay its scam.
Not correct people pay duties on gifts, except the item was shipped as DTP meaning DUTY AND TAXES PAID by the shipper and this is obviously not.

You correctly schooled that guy out of his ignorance. The way some Nigerians accept rubbish is mind blowing. that is why we are where we are now.

Lol. I noticed that Nigerians are easily swayed especially by people who seem to be on their side. We have been so beaten as a people that we can hold on to what seems like a lifeline even if its false hope. We should rather face the government who are in charge of these policies and vent to them.
Anyway its a learning curve for you. Its not rubbish I was spewing rather fact.

Oga you’re only blowing grammar that we all know. Duties are charged by certain % of the value of goods declared by the importer. The op clearly showed the cost of those items in the screenshot. They were bought online. The seller or the store would provide proof of purchase for those items and that’s what is supposed to be used to calculate the duty fees.

1.2M naira divided by current rate of 1600 is $750. The item costs from the screenshots attached is $1433.66 when converted to USD.

Why would the customs charge you $750 for items worth $1433.66? They claimed they used the value of the items now. Those two phones are old phones and not brand new. Check on Apple website and see if you’ll find that particular iPhone 12 still selling there.

The second phone is S23FE it is clearly written in the description as “mint” that means it’s not a new phone.

How did DHL and customs come about the valuation they gave both phones to warrant a duty fee of $750?

Explain the intricacies that warrant the duty cost $750 based on the value they were purchased for and not some made up value by the DHL and customs as they claim.

You have refused to learn and obviously you don't know what you are talking about, but its fine. You just have to be humble and learn. I am tired trying to teach you.
As regards this case;
1. I can bet my ass that the shipper didn't declare the amount that was shown on the screenshots. Nigerians like to get around the system by undervaluing. Some even overvalue the cost so the courier company can pay them that incase of loss, but when duty is calculated, they cry.

2. Customs uses the market value of things that they find to be undervalued. So go check the prices of these items online. The price might tally.

3. Lastly if the duty was computed on the invoice value based on the screenshot, the duty to be paid is NGN 526,803. He can get this done if he follows up with them or present this to customs to review. If he can talk to a senior officer, it should be resolved or wait for feedback with the courier company.

Below is a breakdown of he is expected to pay using the invoice value

Do you work or have you worked with customs or DHL?

If not don’t tell me what I know very much about. They manufactured that customs duty right their in their NACHO office.

Check customs website and see what they charge for items. What % is charged on phones and come back to see that what DHL presented that guy is not from customs.

How come cargo shippers don’t pay ridiculous amount of duties on phones and other gadgets? We have many shippers from USA, UK to Nigeria that ship phones and resell them here. The question is if this is how customs truly charge, would those people still be doing business after paying so much for just a few phones?

You are confirming my point about your ignorance on this case. Just because people do it wrongly does not make it the correct thing to do. Plus this isn't a cargo shipment. JSYK.
There is no fixed cost for customs duty only fixed rates e.g 10% etc. You claim to know that what was sent was not from customs. How is that? Do you know the intricacies of computing and finalizing duty assessments till the exit note stage? I guess not. You are talking to someone with years of experience in this field, I own a customs duty software as well.. lol.

Duties are computed based on the cost of the item, insurance and freight and other landing cost. Mind you as an importing country, this is not done using your local currency as base. They use the foreign currency you purchase in, and then convert it to naira. So the higher your exchange rate and cost the higher the duty. See how govt policies can affect all strata of your life?

You should just learn from me, what I am telling you is real and correct. I am not arguing for anything. I know this process like the back of my palm.

Tell them to return it. If they refuse, the sender has a right to file a claim over there in the DHL UK office and they’ll pay her. Don’t mind that uncouth Nigerian DHL staff threatening her.

The item is in DHL facility and not with customs. Don’t bend to their wills. They do the valuation and customs fees right in their office. Customs do not charge them per item but as bulk for duties.

Lol you speak with a lot of ignorance.

All facilities in the Aiport belongs to the government, it is managed by them even when you take a lease on them.
Customs duty are done per piece and not in bulk. Thats why it is called Single Goods Declaration. Google SGD and don't lead peope astray

Are you also aware that any item that comes into the country is an import and duty must be paid? And for you to export out you must first clear the shipment?

Last week my mother in-law was sent an iPhone 12, Samsung s23 and Samsung S4 watch from UK, the sender didn't inform me she will be using DHL and I didn't know she will be sending brand new phones. She once used DHL to send few items in the past, so she believed she wouldn't have any problem with them.

She said they charged her close to 200k there to have all 3 items sent.

Item got to Nigeria and I got a link to make a payment of over 1.2m to clear the items. They claim Nigeria custom took over the items after they noticed the original amount was not declared.

The sender declared a total amount of 1,200$.
DHL claimed custom reviewed the amount n inflated it 2500$
The sender after this provided them with screenshot of her purchase from Argos yet this fee wasn't reviewed.

I was advised to go to their stand for airport and negotiate with them which I'll do before the week runs out.

If you've experienced this before or know a way out or you know how I can bring down this amount, kindly drop comment. My number is also available Incase you want to DM. I don't want to go there without knowing how to go about this.

Thanks

If you have your proof of payment you can go there and present the receipt. It will be worked on. The only reason customs revalued it will be because the shipper understated the value.

With this reason, no wonder rccg has become a political arm of APC.. 'Social gathering ' called a church

Whether they are political arm, is left for you, them or anyone who sees it that way. That's a deviation from my argument

I am saying that you cannot give a farmer to lead a tech company, even if he has a good interest at heart. Spirituality alone does not make one a good leader. The choice of pastor is the right one, assuming they have also considered spirituality.

Stay true to yourself!

😂 You must be joking. See reason for their 'funny'CV of a pastor

Lol. You must not understand the rudiment of top management. You think because it is a church it should not be given to excellent people.

Even the apostles in the bible were people of excellence. If you have not been excellent in your personal space, should I now give you an organisation to manage? Think beyond your sentiments

Pastoring a church with such wealthy members needs a pastor with big mind as well.

Religion the opium of the masses. When people get high on religion they attribute everything to it.
Religion is not spirituality/relationship with your God. Imagine what the man would have gone through at a young age.

Run away from religion and its deceits, have a relationship with your maker instead.

The natural cause of earth is for it to be self-sufficient. Self-sufficiency means self-multiplication and preservation.
If we have feminine men and masculine women this negates the natural cause of life. Earth will go extinct.
Yes, we can have deviants, but it is unnatural for a male to be feminine. What is common is natural and what isnt is not natural.

Haha. A government that rode on propaganda and lies to power, will only offer the same.
How will a President on a semblance of historic day come out to say what has not been confirmed? Does it not seem weird to both the supporters and non supporters?
What did we do to deserve this? Not just the government but its supporters who never see wrong in things like this.
