Politics / Enugu Guber: A Desperado’s Smear Campaign And Fani-Kayode’s Lash - David Chukwu by Vivara: 7:43am On Apr 05, 2022 |
It is quite unfortunate that at a time the people of Enugu State and indeed Nigerians are appreciating the enduring peace and good governance entrenched in the State by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, whose unique personality is charming, decent and exceptional, one insatiable politician from the State has been making desperate efforts in a failed attempt to undermine this peace the people are enjoying with his blind and selfish governorship ambition.
Having lost out woefully in the power play ahead of the forthcoming governorship primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following the recent resolution of the PDP South East zone, directing States and constituencies of the zone to adhere strictly to the existing zoning patterns, this ungrateful element has gone berserk with his smear campaign laced with falsehood, mischief and malicious allegations against the State government.
The last straw that broke the camel’s back was the proclamation by the revered Traditional Rulers reaffirming the existing rotational zoning arrangement in Enugu State, which favours Enugu East Senatorial District to produce the next governor of Enugu State and urging all politicians in the State to respect and adhere to the established zoning arrangement.
Ever since virtually all the stakeholders from the three Senatorial Districts of Enugu State and beyond, including the former Governors, Council of Traditional Rulers, the Forum of LG Chairmen from Enugu West Senatorial District (where the desperado comes from), Coalition of PDP Council Chairmen from the same Enugu West Senatorial District and the PDP South East zone endorsed that the existing zoning arrangement in Enugu State, which favours Enugu East Senatorial District to produce the next governor of the state, should be strictly adhered to, this unfavoured governorship aspirant and his camp have renewed their ungodly smear campaign, leveling all sorts of spurious, unfounded and mischievously allegations, believing blindly that such acts of mischief, falsehood and character assassination would work for them as they did to former Governor Sullivan Chime, during the battle for Enugu West Senatorial District ticket in 2015.
In 2015, this self-centered and insatiable politician mischievously deployed the same mischievous approach of campaign of calumny against Chime for not supporting his gubernatorial ambition, and for daring to replace him in the Senate.
This selfish politician forgot to acknowledge the fact that he succeeded in stopping Chime from going to the Senate not because of the media attacks he unleashed on him, but because the then governor showed little interest in politics and did not exercise his political powers as the leader of the PDP in Enugu State, to checkmate the excesses of the ungrateful element who today has grown wings of disloyalty and disrespect to leadership, thinking that it is still business as usual.
Chime in an interview he granted to the Sun Newspaper published on 23rd November 2018 said: ”… In 2015, Incidentally, I didn’t know my senator (Ekweremadu) was actually warming up to be governor and when he heard that pronouncement (that the governorship ticket had been zoned to Enugu North Senatorial District), everywhere; every paper was full of attacks from him, attacking me, saying when did they reach such decision? Of course, I ignored him.”
I recall that a renowned South East-based social media influencer, Mr. Victor Chigozie Eneh raised the alarm in the national dailies and other media platforms, some months ago, over the crass desperation of this political element to scuttle the existing rotational zoning arrangement in Enugu State and his unwarranted campaign of calumny against the present administration in a failed attempt to cajole the governor to yield to his selfish, wicked and inordinate governorship ambition.
Eneh disclosed that this politician and his cohorts, at the end of every administration in Enugu State, resort to blackmail, lies, brazen falsehood and all sorts of smear campaign against the government in power through sponsorship of unfounded and mischievous opinion articles in the national dailies and social media platforms.
He added that “these political elements have been approaching me and my colleagues with mischievous and fictitious trumped-up articles, requesting us to deploy our social media platforms to cast aspersions on the government”, revealing that “I am aware that they have also enlisted the services of some media consultants and executives in Lagos and equally induced them with huge resources to execute their evil plot, as they did during the end of the past administration of Sullivan Chime, ahead of the 2015 general elections”.
According to him, “This alarm has become necessary in view of the pressure being mounted on us by these desperate politicians to accede to their selfish request, which we have rejected based on our conviction that their plot is immoral, ungodly, and mischievous, as the allegations raised against the government were untrue and a clear case of political vendetta”.
Only yesterday, outspoken Nigerian politician, essayist, poet, lawyer and former Minister of Culture and Tourism, Femi Fani-Kayode rose in condemnation of the antics of this overzealous governorship aspirant in Enugu State over the recent wild and baseless allegations peddled against the governor on social media, stressing that they are “fake, false and totally unbecoming of the identifiable individual that is sponsoring them”.
Fani-Kayode, who vouched for the governor’s integrity and decency, said: “I was mortified and disgusted by these cruel and vile allegations about a profoundly good man and I am constrained to stand up and speak out for my brother. That is what friends are for!.”
He stressed that “when you see a lie you have a duty before man and God to expose it for what it is and shoot it down”, adding that “premeditated venal and vicious lies coupled with a heavy dosage of libel and slander against our fellow human beings, particularly when they are our compatriots, diminish us all”.
Advising the federal lawmaker behind the smear campaign, the former Minister stated: “Simply because you want to be the next Governor of Enugu state does not mean that you must defame and slander a good man. This is all the more so when you are in the same political party as he is.
“We should eschew the politics of hate, bitterness and division and renounce those that seek to destroy the names and hard-earned reputations of others simply because they see them as an obstacle to achieving their political aspirations.
“I pray that those behind this vicious and callous smear campaign against the Governor come to terms with the fact that it does not serve them well to attempt to disgrace or destroy one of the brightest stars in the East and indeed Nigeria. I really do wonder how they sleep at night”.
From the foregoing, the onus is on the people of Enugu State and the general public, who cherish the existing peace and good governance in the State, to be wary of the antics of this desperado and rise up to condemn his selfish governorship ambition, which he pursues desperately at variance with the established rotational zoning agreement reached at a PDP State Caucus meeting of July 7, 2013, which he duly participated in.

The Chief of Air Staff’s commendation was conveyed by the new Air Officer Commanding, Ground Training Command, Enugu, Air Vice Marshal I.O. Daramola, when he paid a courtesy visit to Gov. Ugwuanyi at the Government House, Enugu, on Tuesday.
Air Vice Marshal Daramola was at the Government House, Enugu, to formally inform Gov. Ugwuanyi of his assumption of office as the Air Officer Commanding, Ground Training Command, Enugu, and reassure the governor of “our commitment to the security and development of Enugu State”.
Stressing the supportive role of Gov. Ugwuanyi in ensuring internal security in Enugu State and beyond, Air Vice Marshal Daramola appreciated the governor “for the support that you continue to provide to the Military in general, the Army, Police and to us the Nigerian Air Force”.
He pointed out that “it is this support that has ensured that Enugu has remained the most peaceful state in the South East geo-political zone” adding: “That goes with the fact that the numerous legacy infrastructure projects you have put in place, especially the roads within Enugu and in the rural areas are part of those things that ensured the state remains secure”.
He commended the governor for the feat, saying: “Within your time of leadership in this state, so much development has come which have curtailed the activities of these miscreants in this state.

Politics / Budget Funding: Ugwuanyi Asks MDA To Restrategize To Meet Revenue Targets by Vivara: 4:31am On Feb 09, 2022 |
2022 budget funding: Gov. Ugwuanyi enjoins MDAs to re-strategize on meeting revenue targets
Determined to meet the revenue targets for the full implementation of the 2022 budget of Enugu State in spite of the nation’s challenges bordering on economy, security and public health, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has enjoined Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to raise their performance bar and re-strategize on meeting their revenue targets as contained in the approved 2022 budget of the state.
Gov. Ugwuanyi also urged the MDAs to set up monitoring mechanisms that would track all revenue generated by them towards the actualization of their targets.
Speaking while declaring open a one day Summit on achieving Enugu State Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) target for 2022 Fiscal year, held at the Base Event Centre, Enugu, on Tuesday, the governor canvassed the establishment of an annual revenue index of every MDA in the state.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, Gov. Ugwuanyi stressed the importance of the Summit to identify the challenges faced by poorly performing MDAs and deliberate on ways to improve on their activities with a view to meeting the 2022 revenue target for funding of the budget.
Stressing the state government’s determination towards growing its IGR to create a socio-economic system not so dependent on federal allocation, Gov. Ugwuanyi disclosed that his administration has grown the state’s IGR by 50 percent without any increased tax burden on the people or businesses.
“Furthermore, a 2019 Report showed Enugu State as 3rd in the Federation after Lagos and River states in terms of fiscal sustainability. Also, a report by Ernst and Young, a globally acclaimed auditing firm, rated Enugu State first in the Federation on grounds of fiscal discipline, prudence and accountability”, he added.
The governor commended the Chairman of Enugu State Internal Revenue Service (ESIRS), Prince Emeka Odo and his team for the timely Summit, expressing confidence that, at the end of the strategic event, the challenges faced by major revenue generating MDAs will be analyzed and solutions proffered to enhance revenue generation for delivery of more democratic dividends to the people of the state.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of ESIRS, Prince Odo explained that the Summit was organized by the agency in collaboration with Enugu State Economic Planning Commission to review the performance of the MDAs in the past three years, inform each revenue generating MDA of its revenue target for 2022, and formulate and agree on strategies for achieving the targets as well as harmonize their revenue heads.
Prince Odo who applauded Gov. Ugwuanyi for the impressive performance of ESIRS last year, revealed that the agency collected a total IGR of N26,700,000.00 as against a target of N29,000,000.00 as contribution of IGR to the funding of the 2021 budget, representing a 92 percent budget performance and a 13 percent improvement over that of the 2020 fiscal year.
According to the Chairman, “This performance is commendable and all of us in this room have every reason to be proud of this achievement. However, the bulk of the credit for the improving IGR figures in Enugu State goes to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, considering the huge financial, structural and logistic support you have extended not only to the Revenue Service but to all revenue generating MDAs in the state.
“In six years, the present administration has radically reformed the Revenue Service, transforming it from a manual, laid back government agency to an automated, modern revenue service run on the wheels of best business principles.
“You have approved and provided funding for the installation of an Integrated Tax Management System in the Revenue Service, automating tax filling, assessment, collection and accounting; put in place a continuous recruitment process through which the manpower base of the Service is refreshed and rejuvenated, provided a fleet of vehicles to boost the logistic efficiency and effectiveness of the Service and institutionalized a monthly financial incentive scheme for all staff of the Service to reward hard work and productivity”.
In her goodwill message, the Commissioner for Finance, Mrs. Ada-Onah Kene-Uyawunne, stated that the Summit became imperative in view of the advice by the World Bank that states should concentrate on what they grow internally instead of relying solely on what they get outside in terms of earnings from the federation account.
The Finance Commissioner noted that growing of revenue is not about increasing taxation, but about cutting cost, harmonization of taxes and harnessing of resources.
On his part, the Commissioner for Budget, Dr. David Ugwunta, thanked Gov. Ugwuanyi for approving the Summit, highlighting its benefits towards the funding of the 2022 budget.
Dr. Ugwunta maintained that the IGR is needed to meet up with the recurrent expenditures, pointing out that the governor has been passionate and committed to regular payment of workers’ salaries, pensions and subventions.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Financial Matters, Sir Paschal Okolie spoke in the same direction, recounting that the present administration in Enugu State has kept faith with the reformative and innovative agenda of the State Internal Revenue Service, adding that the state government had paid salaries of workers on several occasions without receipt of federal allocations.
Also present at the event were the State Accountant General, Sir Remigus Odo, the General Manager of Enugu State Housing Development Corporation, Hon. Chukwuemelie Agu, the Executive Secretary, Enugu State Economic Planning Commission, Nnanyelugo Dan Onyishi, and the Managing Director, Enugu State Investment Development Authority, Dr. Sam Ogbu Nwobodo.
Others include the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance; the Accountant General; the Executive Secretary, the Enugu State Economic Planning Commission; the Chairman of the Enugu State Internal Revenue Service; all Directors in the Service; the Permanent Secretary and Directors of Finance of all the major revenue generating ministries and parastatals; the Registrar and Bursar of all state government owned tertiary institutions in the State, among others.

When money is saved then the citizens of Enugu State benefit because that money saved will be channelled for development issues and provision of more dividends of democracy. Development is not all about building burguos structures that will be difficult to utilize and maintain in future just to impress those that are not in tune with the modern trend in civil engineering. I really commend Governor Ugwuanyi for indeed enhancing the status of Enugu as the historic capital of the South East Nigeria because these beffiting structures he is constructing in that Old Government Lodge will serve the people and leaders of South East especially now they need to be meeting regularly to pursue a common course, the Presidency... Politics / PDP Governors Meeting: Read Communique Issued After Port Harcourt Meeting by Vivara: 5:42pm On Jan 17, 2022 |
COMMUNIQUE ISSUED BY THE PDP GOVERNORS’ FORUM AT THE END OF THEIR MEETING IN PORT HARCOURT, RIVERS STATE, JANUARY 17, 2022. The PDP Governors’ Forum held its regular meeting crucial to the sustenance of our Democracy on Monday, 17th January, 2022, at the Rivers State Government House, Port Harcourt, the first in the new year. The meeting once again reviewed the state of the States, the state of the nation and THE PDP and issued the following Communique: 1. The PDP Governors congratulated the entire PDP family for conducting a smooth and credible National Convention that led to the emergence of the highly acclaimed Senator Dr. Iyorchia Ayu-led National Executive Committee and commended the new PDP NWC for hitting the ground running with respect to repositioning the PDP into a credible vehicle for RESCUING and REBUILDING Nigeria which has been battered by bad economy, insecurity, unemployment and other social ills by the incompetent and inept APC Administration.
2. The PDP Governors requested the National Assembly to quickly conclude deliberations on the Electoral Act Amendment Bill either by overriding Mr President's veto or deleting areas of complaints. The meeting advised that the option of sustaining Mr President's veto would lead to a quicker resolution and would deny Mr President the opportunity to once again truncate a reformed Electoral jurisprudence for Nigeria. An early concluded Electoral Act is vital for credible elections.
3. The meeting lamented the continued state of insecurity in the country, the persistent and ceaseless flow of Nigerians' blood on a daily basis in many parts of Nigeria, the near collapse of the security situation in Nigeria. The strategies to confront terrorists, kidnappers, bandits and other criminals is still a major problem of the APC administration.
4. The meeting expressed regrets that Mr President is unwilling, from his recent comments discountenancing the proposals for state policing, to participate in reviewing the structural problems of tackling insecurity in Nigeria and urges Mr President to reconsider his position and consider decentralisation and restructuring of the security architecture as the most viable solution, together with proper arming, funding and training requirements for Security Agencies.
5. The Nigerian Economy has continued to deteriorate and Nigerians have become numb and accustomed to bad economic news as exemplified by the inconsistent and differential exchange rate regime, high interest rates, unsustainable unemployment figures and borrowing spree some of which have not been applied to important projects, and other bad economic indicators. In particular, it is clear that the APC Government is a massive failure when compared with the records of PDP in government. The PDP handed over a $550 billion economy (the largest in Africa), but under APC, Nigeria is the Poverty Capital of the world. In 2015, under PDP, the exchange rate was N198 per Dollar, it is now under APC almost N500 to a Dollar; In 2015, unemployment rate was 7.3% under PDP, it is now 33%, one of the highest in the world under APC; In 2015, the Pump price of Petroleum was N87 per litre, it is now N165 per litre and climbing under APC. Debt Servicing now under APC takes over 98% of the Federal budget. The tales of woe is endless.
6. The PDP Governors noted that the management of our Oil and Gas resources, the administration of Federation Account remittances have remained opaque, confusing and non - transparent. In addition, the transition to NNPC Ltd under the Petroleum Industry Act has not been properly streamlined to ensure that the interests of all the tiers of Government are protected, consistent with the 1999 Constitution. 7. The meeting urged eligible Nigerians of all walks of life, particularly the Youths, to register en masse with INEC to exercise their franchise in the 2023 general elections. It further noted that the next election is a very consequential election that should be used to end the dominance of very youth unfriendly APC Government; a government that had the arrogance to deny Nigerian youths of the use of TWITTER, a business friendly tool for the young, for over a year. The youths should empower themselves to determine who leads them.
8. The PDP Governors congratulated the Chief Host, His Excellency, Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON, for the very high standards of hosting and for the great leadership performance he has entrenched in Rivers State.
9. The PDP Governors wished Nigerians and PDP Members a happy new Year.

Politics / Enugu: Eha-Alumona Leaders Thank Ugwuanyi For Projects, Empowerment by Vivara: 6:27am On Jan 10, 2022 |
Enugu: Eha-Alumona leaders, traditional rulers, others thank Gov. Ugwuanyi for projects, empowerment
…Declare support for his political aspirations
Political leaders, stakeholders and six (6) traditional rulers from Eha-Alumona in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, on Sunday, led the people of the community to the Government House Enugu to thank Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for the massive road projects his administration has executed in their area.
The Eha-Alumona people also thanked Gov. Ugwuanyi for the creation of two additional autonomous communities for them, Eha-Etiti and Ebor-Umabor Eha-Alumona, as well as the appointment of many of their sons and daughters into government positions.
They said that Eha-Alumona is one of the major beneficiaries of Gov. Ugwuanyi administration’s rural development policy, stressing that no past administration did what Gov. Ugwuanyi has done in their land in terms of infrastructural development and empowerment of their people.
The people of Eha-Alumona therefore declared their unalloyed support for Gov. Ugwuanyi and his political aspirations in 2023.
Speaking, the six traditional rulers at the event, namely, Igwe Kelvin O. Mama, Igwe Simon Ugwu, Igwe Daniel Ugwuanyi, Igwe (Dr) Eze Donatus Edeji, Igwe Cletus Okwor and Igwe Julius Ugwuanyi (Okomanyi), appreciated Gov. Ugwuanyi for the two autonomous communities his administration created as well as earthwork on the 16km erosion ravaged Eha-Ulo/Eha-Etiti/Eha-Ndiagu-Mbu road and 24km Premier Junction-Umabor-Mbu road, covering 40km, among other projects.
While Igwe Eze told Gov. Ugwuanyi that “no governor has done what you did in the land of Eha Alumona”, Igwe Ugwuanyi (Okomanyi) who disclosed that he developed interest in politics because of Gov. Ugwuanyi’s uncommon leadership qualities and will lose interest in politics the day the governor leaves politics said: “We are solidly behind you; we pray for you and where you stand is where we stand in 2023”.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation and member representing Nsukka East Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedu Nwamba, informed Gov. Ugwuanyi that they came to wish him a Happy New Year and thank him for the two autonomous communities, numerous appointments of their sons and daughters, the road projects, and also to declare that “Eha-Alumona people are solidly behind you in any of your political aspirations in 2023”.
Corroborating with the speakers, former member of Federal House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Charles Ugwu; the State Attorney General/ Commissioner for Justice, Chief Miletus Eze; the Chairman of Enugu State Internal Revenue Service, Prince Emeka Odo; member, Local Government Service Commission, Barr. Rodrick Ugwu, and an industrialist, Chief William Agbo, all thanked Gov. Ugwuanyi, saying that they are proud of him and solidly behind him.
According to Agbo, the industrialist, “We thank you and we are proud of you. You are good leader; you are a God fearing governor and that is why Enugu State is in the Hands of God.
“We cannot thank you enough for the special love and care for the people of Eha-Alumona, the appointments given to our people. Thank you for the Enugu flyover bridge, the roads, the Nsukka Stadium, the hospitals, among others.
“We are here just like our brother said, to say a Happy New Year to you and to assure you that Eha-Aluoma is solidly behind you because if you are able to do all these things for us as a governor, how is it going to be if you get to a higher position?
“Our prayer for you is that all your political aspirations will be actualized in Jesus Name. Amen”.
On his part, Prince Odo, the Chairman of ESIRS, said: “Just as I am in the finance sector, I know that there is no money to commit the level of resources that your administration committed to those two roads. We thank you. We are saying that wherever you are going to we are solidly behind you" https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=475709440580213&id=100044234839321 |
