A list of worst politicians will have to include soldiers:

1) Buhari - couped a civilian administration out of power and wasn't "Man" enough to hold power long enough to achieve the aims of the coup that installed him;

2) IBB - couped Buhari, democratised corruption, destroyed Nigeria's middle class, stole billions and still dares to be involved;

3) David Mark - he still breathes and nurses presidential ambitions. This man is a big thief and his conduct is wrecking our senate and national assembly;

4) OBJ - reasons are obvious and too many to list; and

5) Atiku and Tinubu (tie) - big thieves that are quite smart and sharp but play to the gallery of their various ethnic groups to secure power and wealth for themselves.

=========

For GEJ to make the list for me, he must be relevant. But unfortunately he has been largely irrelevant for the almost two years he has been in power! - GCFR indeed!

Ghana doesn't have our population or demand.

If you want the price of flights to come down, then Nigeria needs to do :

1) Issue more slots to capable airlines;
2) The slots issued must be on a use it or lose it basis;
3) Local airlines should be given tax breaks and incentives to compete;
4) Regulators should monitor BA and VA etc for anti-competitive acts;
5) Airport facilities and infrastructure should be upgraded to make the turnaround time quicker; and
6) Contracts, agreements and understandings should be honoured.

I suspect PIGS would fly first and Hell may freeze over before the above is implemented by the FG.

If state governments (coordinating with FG) are however given the above tasks then more likely to happen.

If she does own the property I doubt she would be silly enough to put it in her name.

The purchase would likely be via a private company whose shares are held by an off-shore trust.  The beneficiary of the offshore trust would of-course be completely unknown. [Freedom of information is unlikely to pierce this veil - sorry!]

But as we know - "innocent until proven guilty".

I want her to sue so that the Austrian newspaper defends itself and either provides the facts or STFUP.

If we must fight corruption we need to do it better than "DEM SAY, DEM SAY"!

Algeria says Nigeria's Boko Haram tied to al Qaeda

http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/11/13/us-nigeria-sect-algeria-idUSTRE7AC0SV20111113

(Reuters) - Intelligence reports show there is coordination between the Nigerian Islamist sect Boko Haram and the Algerian-based north African branch of al Qaeda, the Algerian deputy foreign minister said Sunday.

Boko Haram has killed dozens of people in Nigeria, and Western security experts say any link-up with al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) could make it a more potent threat, especially to Nigeria's energy sector.

"We have no doubts that coordination exists between Boko Haram and al Qaeda," Abdelkader Messahel told reporters. "The way both groups operate and intelligence reports show that there is cooperation."

AQIM grew out of a conflict in Algeria between the government and Islamist militants. In the past few years it has expanded its activities to include Mali, Niger and Mauritania but was not thought to have reached as far south as Nigeria.

Algeria's assessment of ties between AQIM and Boko Haram carries authority because Algeria has the biggest intelligence-gathering operation on al Qaeda of any country in the region.

It tallies with the view of some in the Nigerian military, who say Boko Haram is increasingly linking up with global jihadist movements.

The sect said it had carried out multiple gun and bomb attacks that killed 65 people in and around the Nigerian city of Damaturu earlier this month in its deadliest attack yet.

Boko Haram also said it was behind a suicide bomb attack on the United Nations building in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, in August this year. At least 23 people were killed and 76 injured in the attack.

It was the first known use in Nigeria of suicide bombing, a tactic commonly used by AQIM inside Algeria.

The Algerian deputy foreign minister said that in light of the ties between Boko Haram and AQIM, Nigerian officials were scheduled to attend a regional summit in Mauritania in December to coordinate the fight against al Qaeda.

A question to the PDP connected people.

Will the annual remembrance day hold on January 15 next year or will the fear of Boko Haram keep proceedings to Aso Rock?

I know independence day celebrations are postponed till 2014, but what about remembrance day?

@Musiwa

What exactly is your point? I'm not trying to form a circular firing squad but I don't understand your point.

There are indisputable facts that disrupt your arguments. Poorly annotated satellite pictures do not make your points. The Niger Delta contribute greatly to our common wealth and should receive the bulk of income generated from their backyard (each zone/region should eat from its sweat or cease to exist).

Let's build our own up but we don't need to denigrate others.

Back on topic. It is a pity the military needs to be called in, but I fear it is the only force that can tame the threat that is Boko Haram. However the military should respect the constitution and the human rights of Nigerians everywhere.

Business / Nigeria Seeks Investors For 34 Kinds Of Mineral Resources by VoodooDoll(m): 1:43am On Nov 12, 2011
Nov. 11 (Bloomberg) -- Nigeria, Africa’s biggest oil producer, is seeking investors for mining 34 different types of minerals, including gold, coal and bitumen, Mines Minister Mohammed Sada said.

The minerals are in large, commercial deposits at 450 sites across the country, Sada told a conference in Abuja, the capital, today.

The government will offer investors a capital allowances for as much as 95 percent of qualifying expenditures and waivers of custom and import duties for mining equipment, he said. New investors will get between three and five years of tax holidays and other tax concessions, Sada said.

I did much rather prefare attacks in LAGOS than anywhere else in the south say PH or ENUGU why?
An attack on any other location by BH even though will result badly could be attributed to some group down SE/SS but at Lagos will result in the unraveling of this country.
I know you will all hate me but i want to give BH some target advisory:
Load some ten  or even 4 trucks full of high explosives disperse them all over Lagos at major traffic congestion hubs at night in the thick of the traffic then detonate.Targets locations:
third mainland bridge:
falomo bridge overpass
bonny camp bridge overpass
dopemu bridge overpass
ojota/ketu/berger bridge overpass
There could be other targets but these (the overpass placements)guarantee maximum damage resulting from increased traffic density and secondary damages ohh don't forget the global visibility you've been craving for not to mention the END OF NIGERIA.
Lagos is the most blended territory of Nigeria in Nigeria. An attack of that sort will catalyse what Nigeria will become:a footnote in history.

No Lagosian will ever advocate the above. The results will be catastrophic with losses from every ethnic group. Boko Haram and the sponsors of the annual genocidal campaigns are criminal and the local, state and federal governments need to do everything they can to put an end to them.

An attack in Lagos will set up a chain of events that could result in extremely horrific consequences.
Business / Re: How China Creates Jobs, A Lesson For Nigeria by VoodooDoll(m): 3:49pm On Nov 09, 2011
I understand that in China if they have two options:

Option 1) Costs $500m will involve using a lot of foreign expertise and will employ 5000 people; OR

Option 2) Costs $600m will involve using a little foreign expertise but will employ 10,000 people.

The Chinese govt will go for Option 2 as it provides more employment and capital will stay in China as well as the multiplier effect of reduced unemployment.
Business / Re: How China Creates Jobs, A Lesson For Nigeria by VoodooDoll(m): 1:54pm On Nov 09, 2011
http://finance.sina.com.cn/20090217/10345864499_3.shtml

First, to achieve further market-oriented reforms, the liberation of productive forces. Only market-oriented reforms, to break the monopoly, full liberalization of market access and further reduce administrative examination and approval (remove red tape and bureaucracy), so that private enterprises and state-owned enterprises, foreign-funded enterprises can compete for freedom, equality, and possible release of the Chinese economic vitality, so that entrepreneurs are confident in the future. To stimulate investments, primarily investments in private enterprises should be stimulated, rather than the inefficient state-owned enterprises investment.

Second, the further implementation/reformation of the financial system, especially the exchange rate market-oriented reforms. If we implemented a few years ago the exchange rate reforms, the crisis may not be so serious. Conversely, if you do not change, it is difficult out of the woods. Exchange rate reform in 1997, when in fact ready to start, but the Asian financial crisis so that we become overly cautious, that the reserves in his hand on safety, not to move forward and dragged more than a decade. It now appears that excessive foreign exchange reserves and as harmful as too little foreign exchange reserves.

Third, to promote labor market reforms. Determine a policy of good or bad, noble purpose is not to see it is not noble, but to see the effect of this policy. We say that a policy is not good, that is, the effect of this policy and the opposite. Labor Contract Law is a typical example. The new labor contract law to protect the interests of workers, but the biggest damage is precisely ordinary workers and farmers ready to find work, because it greatly reduces the employment opportunities. Labor Contract Law is not just the cost of the damage on the economy, but also damage to the corporate culture. Now, more and more difficult to manage corporate people, and also into the past, "dry as looking to see is better than cause trouble." So, I suggest decisively to stop the implementation of new labor contract law to limit freedom of contract terms, so that more freedom of labor contracts.

Fourth, the transfer of national wealth to the people. Economics is the study of national wealth (wealth of nation), rather than the study of national wealth (wealth of state). Our country, there are a lot of wealth concentrated in the hands of the government, rather than national hands. I think you can use this crisis to promote the transfer of national wealth to the people/common wealth.

As Chinese, we do not have to be so pessimistic. China's economic potential is still far from release.

After the 1929 crisis, the United States replaced Britain as the world economic power, and perhaps this time the Great Depression, is China's opportunity. Prior to 1929, the British economic power, the pound is an international reserve currency, but Britain is debtor, the United States to lend to Britain because the British had to maintain his empire to borrow money from the United States. Today, the United States is the economic power, China is a rising power, China to lend to the United States. Maybe after the 1929 crisis in the world can change in the pattern of crisis again in 2009. Another 20 years, three years, even five years, China may overtake the U.S. as the world's largest economy.

Therefore, in this sense, the crisis for China may also be a good opportunity. The rise of all major powers are created by some chance.

Here's How China Is Creating Jobs, And Saving The World Economy

Read more: http://articles.businessinsider.com/2011-06-23/markets/29959039_1_wen-jiabao-chinese-growth-china#ixzz1dCyJ3S3m

This is rare: Chinese premier Wen Jiabao has published an op-ed in the FT called How China Plans To Reinforce The Global Recovery.

In it, he distills Chinese economic policy, and the message is: While the West teeters and slugs along, China is the locomotive of the world.

Here are they key points:

1. China loves stimulus. Via the constant establishment of domestic demand, Chinese growth sailed during the entire slowdown, and that continues today.

2. That stimulus represents a range of investments. China is spending $618 billion on various infrastructure programs (roads, rail, etc.), as well investments into science and technology.

3. China is lowering its trade surplus. Since 2007, the country's trade surplus as a share of GDP has gone from 7.5% to 3.1%, as domestic demand creates benefits overseas.

4. China is expanding its social safety net. All Chinese now have free education. 90% of the population has access to medical co-ops. 60% of counties have old-age insurance schemes.

5. China's currency is getting more flexible, with the Renmimbi gaining 5.3% since June of last year.
Inflation is being whipped. Price caps and supply expansion means Wen is confident of inflation being beat this year.

Finally, Wen concludes with this message of China's big-time role in the world:

China is now at a new starting point in its drive for development. We have adopted the 12th five-year plan which calls for shifting the development model. We will continue to pursue economic structural adjustment, boost research and development, and education, save energy and resources, promote ecological and environmental conservation, and narrow the regional and urban-rural gap. China’s drive for industrialisation and urbanisation is gathering pace. Its economy is increasingly market-oriented and internationalised. We are fully capable of sustaining steady and fast economic growth.

China will continue to work with other countries with common responsibilities.

We should make concerted efforts to strengthen the co-ordination of macroeconomic policies, fight protectionism, improve the international monetary system and tackle climate change and other challenges. We should welcome the fast development of emerging economies, respect different models of development, increase help to least developed countries to enhance their capacity for self-development, and promote strong, sustainable and balanced growth of the global economy.

If the country dissolves and minority groups are not for us then "Realpolitiks" kicks in.

Every ethnic group goes into an existential fight and any group that deceives itself or is deceived will pity itself.

The cemetery is filled with the dead bodies of the poor, minority groups, and downtrodden.

War is bloody and messy. And allegiances are fluid, but old and historic ethnic groups have a canny ability to survive through the ages, A millennia of evidenced history of my people exists.

Anyone making allegiances on Nairaland is in for a shock as old allegiances are restored.
Politics / Re: How Prepare Is Southwest ? by VoodooDoll(m): 5:40pm On Nov 07, 2011
People keep asking if the SW is ready.  I personally don't believe the Nigeria project has failed completely. The regions should be given greater autonomy, but to be honest the SW is really one of the few regions that are ready.

With a strong port, a weaker neighbour to our side (Benin republic), buffer minority ethnic groups that we trade with and have historical links (thus can hold off attacks or sustain unfortunate collateral damage) and a vigilante group that can convert to an army of willing foot soldiers.  We also have historical associations that can call upon people at a very short notice (we don't need Facebook or Nairaland to organise)!

After saying all this, my prayer is for the Nigeria project to succeed, but so far it is achieving F9 on a consistent basis.

A pity that the Nigerian Civil War is not remembered or taught properly in Schools.

Our civil war was one of the first wars to really bring the horrors of African genocide to the fore.

A new civil war will be very bloody. It will be short as there is oil to finance extremely heavy weaponry, but it would be bloody.

As a "nation" we live in each other's lands and houses. I do not wish a new civil war on anybody, but a new war will see people being lynched as ethnic groups are "cleansed".

We will see "big" men's homes getting torched and ethnic armies emerging from smoke.

A new civil war will see regions fighting different regions (and not even the ones you expect) as trust is lost.

Let's not wish GEJ resigns. Let's make him bolder to see the terms of our reunion get renegotiated.
