Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka has commended Nigerian youths for organising last year’s #EndSARS protests while speaking on Arise TV programme. He said the youths made most of us proud.

He described the protests as “righteous, well organised and long-overdue movement by a generation over whom one has been uttering noises of despair, asking ‘when are they going to get their acts together? When are they going to understand that this nation is collapsing under their feet and they are going to be the inheritors of this disaster?’”

Soyinka said: “And finally, finally they moved. The youths moved. To me, they made many of us proud. This is a kind of generation that seems to pick up positive signs in their existence and now are taking charge.”

Talking about Amotekun, he said; “We talked about community policing Amotekun, it’s a recognition of the fact that the civic part of the entire national polity has got to wake up in its own, not just defence, but for its survival.”

He urged other states in the country to launch their ‘own’ Amotekun.

Soyinka, however, cautioned that Amotekun should not be allowed to turn into another Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.

He also said that “the sovereignty of this nation is in the hands of murdering herdsmen, Boko Haram, ISWAP and those who do not have the slightest respect for national integrity.”

Capitol police has confirmed the death of a police officer Brian Sicknick on Thursday January 7, after he succumbed to injuries. Making the number of deaths from the Capitol riot to be 5.

A statement was released by the Capitol Police saying Officer Brian D. Sicknick passed away Thursday night “due to injuries sustained while on-duty.”

Officer Sicknick was injured while physically engaging with the rioters and collapsed after returning to his division office. “He was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries,” the Capitol Police statement said.

“The entire USCP Department expresses its deepest sympathies to Officer Sicknick’s family and friends on their loss, and mourns the loss of a friend and colleague,” Capitol Police added.

His death is now being investigated

Officer Sicknick joined the USCP in July 2008, and most recently served in the Department’s First Responder’s Unit.

The four other people who died in the riot have been identified as Ashli Babbitt, an Air Force vet, Kevin Greeson, 55, of Alabama, 50-year-old Benjamin Phillips of Pennsylvania, and 34-year-old Georgia resident Rosanne Boyland.

Several DC Metropolitan Police officers were also injured during the uprising, police Chief Robert Contee said. One officer had significant facial injuries from being struck by a projectile, and another officer was hospitalized after being pepper-sprayed.

Metro Police made 80 arrests related to unrest this week in downtown DC, including 68 arrests Wednesday night, according to a mayor’s spokeswoman. Most were for violations of the mayor’s 6 p.m. curfew.

The Federal Government has directed the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to suspend the recently adjusted electricity tariff.

The Minister of Power, Sale Mamman, made this known in a statement on Thursday.

NERC had on Tuesday increased the electricity tariff payable by power consumers across the country. The hike in tariff which varies, based on different consumer classes, took effect from January 1, 2021.

NERC blamed the N2 to N4 increase in tariff on inflation and movement in foreign exchange rates.

Labour unions have threatened showdown over the development and blamed the government of being insensitive the plight of Nigerians due to the fact that there was an increment last two months.

In a statement on Thursday, the Minister of Power instructed NERC to suspend the recent increment.

He said, “The public is aware that the Federal Government and the Labour Centers have been engaged in positive discussions about the electricity sector through a joint ad-hoc Committee led by the Minister of State for Labour and Productivity and Co-Chaired by the Minister of State for Power. Great progress has been made in these deliberations which are set to be concluded at the end of January, 2021.

“To promote a constructive conclusion of the dialogue with the Labour Centers (through the Joint Ad-Hoc Committee), I have directed NERC to forestall the implementation of the duly performed minor review (which adjusted tariffs between N2 per kWh and N4 per kWh) until the conclusion of the Joint Ad Hoc Committee’s work at the end of January 2021.

“This will allow for the outcome of all resolutions from the Committee to be implemented together. The Administration is committed to creating a sustainable, growing, and rules-based electricity market for the benefit of all Nigerians.”

Urhobo Youth Leaders Council (UYLC) has asked the Federal High Court Warri to declare the appointment of a sole administrator for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) declared as illegal.

UYLC, is a body of leaders of youth groups in Urhobo land, a major oil and gas producing ethnic group in Delta and Bayelsa States.

According to the body, they wants the court to declare the appointment of Effiong Okon Akwa as NDDC sole administrator as null and void.

They claim that the appointment was not made in accordance with the NDDC Act which provides that the management of the Commission has to be nominated by the president and confirmed by the National Assembly.

The defendants in the suit includes the Federal Government, the Attorney General of the Federation, the NDDC, Effiong Okon Akwa; and the Minister for Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio. The case was filed before the Federal High Court on Tuesday, January 5, 2021.

The President of UYLC, Comrade Lucky Emonefe in a statement said the action was instituted to protect the integrity of the NDDC.

Emonefe said; “We are seeking an order of the court restraining the defendants, their agents, administrators, privies and/or servants as well as the general public from recognising Mr Effiong Okon Akwa as sole administrator of the NDDC.

“Our decision to approach the court was born out of the genuine desire of all Urhobo youths to demand a substantive board that will facilitate development in the Niger Delta region because we see the appointment as an aberration and deviating from the aims for which the commission was established.”

“The case instituted by the Urhobo Youth Leaders group is one of several by Niger Deltans challenging the imposition of the sole administrator on the NDDC after an equally illegal Interim Management Committee which was appointed by the federal government was challenged in the court,” Emonefe said.

According to NBC News, the woman who was shot earlier after storming the U.S. Capitol has died.

The woman was reported to have been in a critical condition after she was shot.

A CNN White House correspondent, Kaitlan Collins had tweeted that the woman was wearing a pro-Trump flag on her neck was in critical condition. “A woman is in critical condition after being shot in the chest on the Capitol grounds, per @NoahGrayCNN. No other details were provided,” she tweeted.

The woman was taken out of the building in a stretcher with blood all over her neck and chest.

A 10-year-old girl, Suliya Abubakar, said she threw her 20 months old step brother, Usman Abubakar, inside a well because his mother ( her step mother) maltreats her.

Abubakar said this while she was being paraded alongside 34 suspects of other crimes, by the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Salami Bolaji, on Friday, in Akure.

NAN reports that the other suspects were paraded for offences ranging from armed robbery, arson, fraud, killing, theft, to unlawful possession of firearms among others.

According to the 10-years old Suliya Abubakar, she did not know that Usman will die and that she carried out the action out of frustration caused by her step mother who always maltreated her.

“My mother separated from my father and she born nine children for my father and two died. So Usman’s mother is living with us now and she cooks for us.

“They love Usman more than me, whenever he passes faeces or urinate on my food, his mother will say I should eat it like that, that nothing will happen to me.

“Usman’s mother will only remove where the faeces is and instruct me to eat it and any day I did not eat the food she will beat me.
“So, on the day the incident happened, it was night and Usman has faeces on his body and I was told to fetch water from the well to wash his body.

“As I was going to fetch water, Usman followed me and I throw him inside well and informed my father that someone with ‘Hijab’ came to kidnap Usman.

“My father said if we get to police station I should say it is my mother and her friend that kidnapped Usman. I now said I cannot lie against my mother, but my father said I should say it that nothing will happen to me.

“I am the one that threw Usman inside well and I don’t know that he will die,” she said.
Earlier, the commissioner of Police Bolaji explained that the 10-year-old committed the offence on Dec. 15, 2020 at Owode, behind Central Mosque, Akure North Local Government Area of the state.

Bolaji said that detectives had responded upon receiving the information and arrested the suspect, while the corpse of the toddler was later recovered from the well.

“She has confessed to have committed the crime. There is nothing we can do than to charge her to court because this is a homicide case.

“And the other paraded suspects will soon be arraigned in court as well,” Bolaji said.

Renowned Nigerian Author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie talked about gender based violence in a video and pointed out that women are the major victims.

She said, “137 women are killed by a member of her family every day, what it doesn’t say is that it is nearly always a male family member.”

She said this starts even when the female child is still in the womb. “A baby boy and a baby girl are treated differently from the minute they are born. In fact, even before they are born.

“It’s overwhelmingly female pregnancies that are terminated specifically because they are females.”

She acknowledged that there is woman-on-woman violence and man-on-man violence but said the majority of the cases of domestic violence is perpetrated on women by men.

She said the way we treated male babies, how we don’t cuddle them as much as we cuddle female babies. How we expect them not to cry as much as babies of the other gender, is just a perfect example of how we “start early in our project of constructing the hard cage of masculinity.”

She added that men also suffer because of their gender. She explained that men are shamed for not being financially rich, for showing weakness and for failing.

She said a lot need to change, “we can remake masculinity” by teaching our boys not to be ashamed of some things our culture teaches men to be ashamed of like, it’s not shameful to talk about emotions, real men cry, and real men are honest and keepers of their words.

The author, who was awarded the “Africa Freedom Prize 2020” by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF), made this speech at the digital award presentation on 14 December 2020.

Fire has razed the Rainoil Filling Station in the Sabon Tasha area of Kaduna State.

According to a witness, the fire started on Wednesday morning with residents and passersby around the area in panic as they tried to put out the fire.

At about 10:05am, there was no fire service personnel available at the scene. There has been no report of casualties and the cause of the inferno is still unknown at the time of writing.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu is responding to treatment after testing positive for Corona virus.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi updated on twitter on Tuesday, that the governor’s health condition is improving.

Abayomi wrote; “All tests conducted on him (Sanwo-Olu) recently indicates no signs of adverse impact of the Covid-19 infection.
“We are indeed optimistic Mr Governor will soon be free of the virus and fully back on the beat to steer the ship of our dear state.”

He went on and wished the governor full recovery soonest and also use that means to urge Lagos residents to remain vigilant and compliant to avoid Covid-19 infection.

On Saturday night, Lagos State Commissioner of Health informed the public that the government was infected after being exposed to the virus.

Nigerian singer, Tems has gone on hunger strike after being arrested alongside Omah Lay in Uganda.

The nigerians singers were arrested and charged with “negligently doing acts likely to spread infectious diseases” after performing in a show in Uganda. While Omah Lay was taken to Kitalya prison, Tems was taken to Kigo prison.

In a video circulating online from the court proceeding on Monday December 14, Tems was seen having a conversation with female Ugandan official.

A soldier and one civilian were killed on Sunday why trying to rescue two Indians who were kidnapped by unknown gun men in the Podo area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

Olugbemiga Fadeyi, Oyo State Police Command’s Spokesperson, confirmed this in a statement on Sunday night. Fadeyi said negotiations with the captors were concealed from the police.

He said, “Consequent upon this, a team of Operation Burst, which was invited by the concerned company, arrived in the area and proceeded to the forest. Not too long, one Army Lieutenant sustained a gunshot injury on his right lap, and was immediately taken to the hospital while the personal assistant to the abducted foreigners, who was also abducted, escaped during an exchange of gunfire.”

Operation Burst is a combined team of soldiers and men of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, who were put together by the state government to tackle insecurity in the state.

The PPRO said on Sunday that the corpses of one soldier and a civilian were discovered from the forest while civil defence personnel also sustained gunshot injury after a search in the forest.

The statement partly reads; “It is worthy of note that movement of these foreign nationals most of the time is not known to the police authorities in the state to enable professional advice to be given appropriately. Negotiations with the captors are also concealed from the police.

“Meanwhile, efforts are being intensified to arrest the hoodlums and also to rescue the abductor.

“The people of Oyo State, who have useful and credible information as to the whereabouts of the captors and abductors, should furnish the police for a rescue operation to be carried out immediately, please.”

The reelected Governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki, on Friday shared his testimony about his victory to multitude of believers at the ongoing one-week Congress of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

Her latest case was that of Brandon Bernard, who despite series of posts and awareness to save his life was executed on Thursdays for his involvement in the 1999 murder of Couple Todd and Stacie Bagley.

Bernard was only 18 years old in 1999, when he and his co-conspirators robbed and abducted Todd and Stacie Bagley, two youth minsters. The couple was then locked in the boot of their car when Bernard’s accomplice, Christopher Viola, shot both victims in head which killed Told instantly. Bernard set the fire to the boot.
Christopher Viola was executed for his role in the murder in September.

The prosecutors told the jury that Stacie died as a result of the fire Bernard started and they asked the jury to give Bernard the death penalty for that reason. But recently, an independent medical examiner hired by the defense determined that Stacie was already “medically dead” before the fire.

Kim has been very active in this case since she got to know about it. According to the version she shared online, Brandon was not part of the carjacking that took place and was shocked when the robbery turned into an homicide. Brandon only set the car on fire because the other accomplice had a gun in his hand.


Kim also shared details of her last phone call conversation with Brandon. It was emotional, she only got to find out that Brando was claustrophobic and been given sedative to calm him down before his execution. They couldn’t say goodbye but the said “talk to you soon”, they wanted to be hopeful that they’ll talk again.

4. Know your story: Always remember everything, do not hide any memory or alter any memory to make you feel better. You knowing your story helps you prevents you from making the mistakes you made in the past in your future relationship. Know the things (baggage) you might want to drop and things you might want to keep.

5. Build yourself find a hobby: Find something positive to take your attention, use this period to reflect on yourself. Take that course you’ve always wanted to do, start that business you’ve always loved.

6. Do not hate your ex: Hate is a negative emotion and it should be avoided by all means. It breeds obsession and other negative emotions that would be detrimental to your recovery. Acknowledge that thing did not work out for you guys and move on.

8. Do not go on a revenge mission or have a rebound partner: Dating should not be in your radar if you are still heartbroken. Sex won’t cure the pain and hurting innocent people just because they share the same sex with the person who broke your heart is really not a good option.
