How do you cope with wet nappies during the night? I use the hemp insert and the prefold and it still spills wee everywhere. Baby that used to sleep through the night now wakes up for a nappy change. Help.

Hi, could you please take a picture and upload it so we can see? It may be due to leaks (especially from the side) because Hemp and Cotton combo is supposed to be one of the most absorbent combos. If it isn't a leak, let us put heads together and figure this out. Thank you and sorry about this.

Pls what are the liners used for? Do you mean i don't need the liners again since the insert is the one that soaks up the pee?

The liners are to keep poop off the insert. It is not a necessity but it is nice to have, you drop it into the toilet. You can reuse the flushable liners once or twice and reuse the reusable liners as many times as possible.

Do you know you are supposed to use liners even with disposable diapers? Honest! Mothercare used to sell them. Human waste is not supposed to be thrown in the landfill/dumpsite. It causes wahala, you are supposed to flush it away into your septic tank and it is a Public Health issue, especially in Nigeria. Lagos state govt is now charging for these things under their Public Utility levy (they just announced it this week). Because they have been trying to manage our Lagos landfills (and even collected huge loans) for years. It pollutes groundwater (which is why Lagos state Govt is also going to be charging a tax for drilling boreholes).

Just curios can i use the diaper cloth with the old school napkins (those ones we used wen we were little)

If you mean, can you use the diaper covers with the old school napkins, yes. However, the main issue I heard from some parents (a dad told us this one) was absorbency: the old school one gets peed through in an hour because it's thinner. So you change a lot more. He said they tried it on his son and he peed through in that 1 hour on a way to a party. However, the new cotton napkins are very thick (the first email we get after customers buy them are "omo, that thing is thicccckk" ) so they give better absorbency. What you can do is buy the old school one and try it. Maybe when you are getting some diaper covers from us, try one cotton prefold. Contrast and compare. Whatever decision you make, then go for it.

At the end of the day, I prefer you using something organic on your baby (either the old school nappy or our Nappies) rather than a disposable that falls apart or causes rashes or doesn't have elastic and leaks. If you are satisfied with whichever one, that works for me. smiley

What's the bamboo and hemp used for?
And how many inserts will one need per day for one baby?

Bamboo and Hemp and Cotton are all inserts. Absorbency and fit is what separates them. Cotton is very thick and absorbent (gives about 4-6 hours of wear), Bamboo is very light and absorbent (3 to 4 hours of wear), Hemp is also slim and absorbent (5 to 7 hours of wear). These options are dependent on you. Some mums like the Bamboo and hemp when they go out because they are slim. Our grandmother likes the cotton for long naps and overnight. I usually add Cotton and Bamboo all night, no leaks. Cotton and Hemp will go for 12 hours (the Mac-Daddy of Absorbency).

Inserts depend on how many times your baby wees and poos every day. If you have 3 covers, for different ages of babies, about 6 to 8 inserts for 3 month old babies (I am adding poop), 5 inserts for 7 month old babies (more poop), 3 or 4 inserts for toddler (they are learning how to control their bladders and are getting potty trained so less pee and if you get them to the potty on time, no poop). Please remember, I change my baby a lot. I tend to go with my paediatrician (who told me newborns should be changed upto 10-12 diapers and sometimes he uses the number of diaper changes to gauge how well a newborn baby is drinking milk). If your baby wees a lot or is pooing a lot, you will need more (same as disposables, you should not leave any baby younger than a year in only 3 diapers daily. That is why so many people use Desitin, Sudocrem and Baby Tribotan: rashes! Resuable Cloth nappies need only ori or coconut oil for diaper cream, just to moisturise the area because of the constant wetness can dry it out. So additional savings!). The good thing about reusable diapers, if they like, wee 20 times a day I will change it peacefully. No crying about the price. that is what makes Disposables so expensive.

Let me upload pics or you can look on our Instagram page: wamby_diapers

Nice writeup smiley
I'm interested but i didnt get the price. Can you do a breakdown for me pls?

Oh sorry about that. For Lululuv and angeltolly, as well.

Covers: N2200 (plain), pattern: N2600
Cotton: N1600 or 2 for N3000, this is the Backbone of every diapering system. If Reusable diapers were soup, this would be ground crayfish.
Bamboo: N2000/N3800 for 2
Hemp: N2200/N4200 for 2

You can buy few covers and more inserts. Which is why we offer this system of All-in-two (that is, 2-part system).

You have accessories. Always stagger your purchases.

No-one is stopping you from buying even one Reusable Diaper. I do apologize, you were given poor info. Buy the quantity you wish to. A Dr bought one diaper with a wetbag as a gift for his patient, so why not you? Shoot me an email right now or send a pm, let's talk. Have you picked out the 3/4 you're interested in?

Benignasweety:
But urz is expensive, where does one get a wobbing sum of 90something thousand for diapers in this economy... No offense meant though.

My darling, Huawei and Samsung, all na phone. There is a price point for everything and I do not expect to buy Nissan saloon car and run it through the flooded streets of Apapa Tin can expressway like a Jeep. I deal in products that were designed to match quality diapers to be found in the US and UK.

I can only speak to performance. I have learned the hard way that it is better to buy a product that performs excellently. I have also learnt there are very few economists in Nigeria. I grew up with economists so my thinking is different.

I shall share a story: if anyone of us knows Oniru, they know that New Market is walking distance from Ebeanor supermarket. I went to new market, paid N200 parking in an untarred parking lot to touts, hit the bottom of my car on high slope, crossed a busy street (hoping not to get hit by keke), trekked into stores until I found Blue Band margarine, the shop owner was rude (because she said she was tired from answering questions from non-buyers), gave me price of N350 after I haggle and haggled. I paid and left after hiring a porter to carry my goods. I went to Ebeano supermarket, parked comfortably, paid nothing for parking, strolled into a/c environment and decided to check the price of Blue band margarine. Same size, same month, same colour, same expiration date: N320.

My parents taught me one thing: "Cheap is expensive and the best bargains don't always look so pretty at first".

Our products, a minimum of 4 hours absorption for any of them. I cannot use a diaper that I change every hour (I need a product that works well, my life is not to be spent changing diapers every hour and mopping up after a baby). Your baby will sleep in that diaper. Your baby will wear that diaper from 3 months to 24 months and you will use it for 2 or more kids. You will not have to buy disposables for nighttime or going out. You can use it for other uses.

There is no way you want top performance and to buy quality for cheap. It is False Economy. Medela Harmony breastpump cannot work the same way as a Chinese manual breastpump.

it was our motto "A quality Nigerian Product for a Nigerian Child". It must be quality at a good price. It must be seen in public and not as an inferior product. It must perform to excellent standards or I do not want my name involved in it. We would not have the people supporting us if we sold you something that doesn't work the way it is priced. If I give you N3800, I expect it to perform around the quality of N5000. There are diapers out there for N1000, I believe LordReed tried some smiley let him share his experience.

By the way, we always tell our Mums to buy slowly, starting from when you first get pregnant to final time of birth. Stagger your purchases, so you are not dropping a large sum immediately. If you calculate Molfix, you will smack yourself for thinking N90, 000 for a year and a half of diapering was expensive. Plus that N90, 000 is for 2 or 3 children. We showed many disposables to nurses and Dr's and they all said the companies had dropped their quality of their goods but increased the prices. But customers kept buying, ignorantly. Yes, those companies spend more on marketing and less on quality goods.

We do sales. We do giveaways. Once in a while we randomly select from our customers and send them free gift. We do Customer service. We write a handwritten thank-you note with every single sale (some of those notes came from a 70 year old grandma who took her time to wish our customer well). We add free samples of diaper cream to some sales . We are not inflating prices for our products or we would only be in highbrow shops. We are offering a QUALITY product so your baby gets treated like a King/Queen.

That is what we are, that is what we do. Please, go for whatever product makes you happy and works without headache for you. We wish you all the best, no matter your choice. Thank you smiley

Cover is N2200 for plain and cotton insert is N1600, but please remember this is ADJUSTABLE FROM NEWBORN TO TODDLER (over 2 years old baby). This is also very, very absorbent (as in, all night long sleeping. Our diaper does not leak because we have strong elastics. You get the quality you pay for.

To all the Mums interested in Reusable diapers, we manufacture and sell Reusable Diapers. Each one can absorb for a minimum of 4 hours and no leaks. For going out o, for sleeping at night o, it works wonderfully.

Each one can last you easily for 2 children and over 2 and a half years. It is adjustable for ages newborn to toddler as well.

You get the quality you pay for, easily. Many Mums can testify to our product being very absorbent and easy to wash, no need to soak or use bleach. You can wash in washing machine and it will come out clean! We also sell accessories to make it easy for you to use.

No need to be changing and washing every 1 hour and you can sleep in ours. We sell Quality and a great brand Doctors from hospitals like Lagos Island Maternity, Emel and Lifeline and many more hospitals can tell you they trust our brand smiley

( some of our Mummies here use them and we know one Mummy who is pregnant and has used them for her first baby and not bought disposable in well over 6 months. She has been feeling fly and is trying to sell off her imported Huggies cartons she bought in the US and we tell her "ntooorrr grin". She is also packing half for her 2nd baby).

Good morning Mamas. How are we today? Did you hit the beach and have a great time with baby this Easter?

This is the start of Holiday season and this is such a great time to start baby on swimming lessons. Did you know you could use cloth diaper covers for swimming? Honest! Plus swimming is a great mental and physical exercise (wait till your child who never likes eating grabs a bowl of eba and okra soup desperately after their first swim class and Knocks off at 8pm till 7am the next morning! grin). Plus there are educational benefits for swimming (in Nigeria and relating to abroad, you would be surprised to learn of them). It's always best to start them early, 3 months is ideal for a private pool and 6-8 months for a well-maintained public pool in Nigeria. Read more:

Zheemub:
Good evening, am an expectant mum. Will like to try the cloth diaper. How cost effective is it in purchasing?
Thanks

Hello. Cloth Diapers are very, very cost effective. Compared to every brand of disposable on the market, we are cheaper. Think of it this way, when you go to Balogun market, you may be buying N20, 000 worth of tissue paper and that seems expensive. But it will last you for over 6 months. Now please compare that to buying 1 or 2 packs of tissue paper when you need it (maybe from your supermarket, kiosk). You may be spending N250 per roll but it costs way more over 6 months. Same thing with cooking or anything. We look at even grams and litres on the bottles of home products like bleach and more. It's always cheaper to buy the bigger product because you end up getting more for less when you break it down. We attended a workshop for women recently about Personal Finance and the moderator assured everyone that we would save more when we buy in bulk.

When you see a cloth Diaper and it costs N3800, the price will seem shocking especially compared to like N2100 for a pack of 32 disposables. But then you buy disposable and in less than 5 days, you finish that N2100 (nothing will horrifying you until the day your child uses 3 diapers in one morning because she pooped a little, pooped some more 1 hour later and peed heavily 30 minutes. All in the space of 1 hour). Meanwhile, that N3800 diaper is going to be used almost daily for the next 2 and a half years (2.5) and even for another child. Some people do 3 kids in the same diapers (if you buy enough and take care of them, you should be able to keep half of your stash till baby no. 3). Infact, I am retiring some of my cloth diapers for another child (more than half my wipes are already packed and ready) because our child is getting potty trained.

And that is another benefit of cloth diapers: children can feel themselves get wet and get uncomfortable and potty train a lot faster. Most disposable diapers have a strong stay-dry top so even the parent cannot tell when the child is wet (which is why they have those yellow indicator strips on disposables).

Health-wise, far too many of the products in Nigeria are substandard. Out of all the Dr's and Nurses whom have seen our products, the only disposable diaper they could compare to in quality was Huggins (US) and Pampers (US). A dermatologist bought some of our cloth wipes for one of his patients because the baby reacted to every commercial wipe (too many strong fragrances). The safest thing to use on a baby is Cotton and that's our No. 1 seller. All our products are plant-based for health reasons.

Yup, you said that like a Dad... "tacking the nappy", please we are not stapling anything to baby o grin

Snappi is the no. 1 diaper fastener in the world, period. It was invented by a father 20 years ago when he was changing his daughter's diaper and he didn't like the metal pins. We showed a couple of people and someone asked her mum to send a pic of her 10 year old sis in one (as a baby). Almost all our DHs wish they could invent something like it (a necessary efficient item for mass consumption) and we use it to ginger them to care for the babies "honey your financial anointing may be in bottlefeeding all night and letting me sleep, doing laundry or cooking baby's food, you may see a problem to solve" cheesy

AyamConfidence and Rhemy2013, what is now used for fastening nappies and cloth diapers is a Snappi, safe, cute and colorful. To use a pin effectively, you have to prep it first so it slides into the cloth easily and you don't poke the baby, but a Snappi won't poke the baby.
