Religion / NAHCON Denies Raid At Agency by Wasa005: 1:57pm On Aug 11
NAHCON denies raids at agency

By Ahmed Aliyu

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), has denied the alleged raid of its headquarters by the operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Wednesday over alleged mismanagement of the N90 billion intervention for the 2024 Hajj.

A national daily had reported that: ‘’ the anti –graft operatives stormed the Hajj house and shut down official activities in some strategic offices, including the office of the chief executive officer, finance, and procurement departments.’’

But the commission through its Assistant Director, Public Affairs, Hajia Fatima Sanda Usara while speaking to newsmen refuted the allegation and advised journalists and media houses to always crosscheck their source and fact before rushing to publish their stories.

Shedding light on the allegation she told newsmen that the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) operatives only came to remind one of their staff in the procurement department not a director of his invitation to the anti-graft agency to answer some questions. So they came on Wednesday to remind him of his appointment. They later went away with him but did not specify that he was under arrest. He went and answered their questions and came back to the office and has since resumed his duty with the commission.

‘’ It is surprising and misleading on the trending false news that the ICPC operatives raided NAHCON headquarters and sealed up some offices. This quite misleading, the agency just like other anti-graft agencies has its professional ways of carrying out its duty not the false allegation and fake news circulating on the purported raiding of NAHCON and some of its directors arrested. This is not a war, the invited individual did not argue with them when they came , he followed tem willingly without any incidence.’’ She said,

She revealed that some jurnalsist on reading the story had the professional instincts of coming over to NAHCON headquarters to verify and clarify the issue. They met her and other staff on duty carrying out their jobs seemingly.

‘’ These journalists came, met me and other staff on duty and asked their questions and we gave them their answers. I believe that is how professional journalism should be, not sitting inside your bedroom reading false news and then go ahead to circulate it without cross checking the fact.’’

She advised journalists and publishers to always dedicate time to cross check the source and fact of their stories before publishing them.

Politics / Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Impactful Leadership Style by Wasa005: 5:04pm On Jul 06
By Ummi & Rashidu Mahmud

“Our children are the future of our nation, and it is our responsibility to provide them with the care, protection and the support they need to thrive and reach their full potential. Unfortunately, there are many children in the FCT who are at risk due to various factors such as poverty, abuse, neglect, and lack of access to education and healthcare.”

These are the humble and caring words of Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, the current Minister of State, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. They are words that embodied and defined her genuine concern and care for children as a medical professional and a politician with empathy. She is equally a woman whose drive for gender appreciation made her a strong advocate for women’s empowerment and education.

Her role in the various positions she has been appointed over the years since her journey into the Nigerian political terrain has been positively eventful. One of such unforgettable and commendable roles was her proactive leadership as the then Kano State Commissioner for Higher Education. Dr. Maryam proactive foresight during the challenging times of the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic exemplified her dedication to the welfare and educational development of the people. It was noted that her efforts, including her timely direction to reopen the state owned tertiary education institutions played a vital role in curtaining the pandemic and helped galvanise the citizens back to their normal social interaction. These undeniably underscore her visionary leadership style and tireless advocacy for continuous progress.

So her appointment by President Bola Tinubu as Minister of State, FCT and subsequent assumption of office on the 12th August, 2023 with the Minister of FCT Barrister Nyesom Wike was quite an historical moment for those who knew her professionalism and efficiency.

No doubt that she has stood out conspicuously along with her boss as the best performing ministers under the present administration. Her zealous support and belief in the vision and policy of President Tinubu has revealed her as one of the recognised ministers who has been patriotically pushing forward the president’s Renewed Hope agenda through her speech and action. For instance she made the above quoted statement when she inaugurated the FCT At-Risk Children Programme (ARCP) implementation committee in Abuja.

She explained during the event that the programme was designed to ensure improved well-being and protection of every child within the nation’s capital. She described the committee as a crucial step towards addressing the needs of identified vulnerable children and ensuring that they were not left behind. A resounding mantra of the Tinubu’s administration has been on the need to ensure that no child is left behind in educational development and affordable healthcare. “We will work hand-in-hand with local government area councils who are the closest administrative bodies to the communities, and their close knowledge of local challenges and dynamics is invaluable,” she said.

According to the Minister of state, FCT, the outcome of this crucial committee would make a real and lasting difference in the lives of the children and help them build a better future for themselves and the nation. This no doubt is possible if the committee carried out their assignment diligently.

The appointment of Dr Mariya has proved that she was actually a right peg in the right hole. Humbled and loyal, her relationship with everyone both at work and at home is exemplary. She personified a woman and a mother with care and empathy, especially for those at the grassroots. This could be discerned from her view during the recent commissioning of various roads projects across the Federal Capital Territory.

‘’ Construction of rural roads would not only open the rural communities for trade and commerce, but also create access to market, health care and education. Road infrastructures form the backbone of rural economies and contribute to the overall development of the nation. Improved road networks connect essential services more easily. This enhances productivity, creates employment opportunities and stimulates local economies.’’ She pointed out.

History we believe would include the name of Dr Mariya Mahmoud among those who contributed selflessly and patriotically to develop the Federal Capital Territory alongside her efficient boss Barrister Nyosom Wike, who as FCT Minister no doubt has performed remarkably well within the short time of their appointment. The Federal Capital Territory has within a year redefined the face of administration in the federal capital and galvanised infrastructural development across the councils.

Dr Mariya Mahmoud with all modesty has proved beyond reasonable doubt that she is a factual representation of the youths in governance this we could summed up from her motherly and nationalist advice to members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at the official closing ceremony of the 2024 Batch A Stream 2 orientation exercise for corps members deployed to the FCT.

, “Wherever you may find yourselves, you must strive to make a difference; to spearhead transformation, promote harmonious interaction and creative development.” She said,

Nigeria at this critical moment needs and deserves nothing better than harmonious interaction and creative development to galvanise the nation and its people forward as urged by the Minister of state, FCT, whose leadership quality in the various position she has held has impacted positively to the socio-economy development of the country first as a professional public health physician, second as an erudite educationist and finally as an efficient public servant

Politics / The Evolution Of Nigerian Youth Progressive Movement Under Dr.shu’aibu Abdul by Wasa005: 4:19pm On Apr 08
By Mubarak M. Kabir

One outstanding individual who has stamped his presence in youth advocacy in the country with a passionate appeal for youth participation in the socio-economy and political development of the country is no other person than Kano based Dr. Shu’aibu Abdul PhD, founder and President of the Nigerian Youth Progressive Movement (NYPM),a socio political movement with passion to attract and collaborate with youths of different background across the country into playing relevant roles in their communities and states to build the country together. Its motto clearly spelt out the movement mission. ‘’ Together we build a new Nigeria.’’

A real estate business man, scholar and educator, Dr. Shu’aibu Abdulrasheed is the CEO/MD of A.S Kura & More, a reputable real estate company and has over the years combined his knowledge and skills in contributing positively to the country’s business and political settings. And his efforts have won him numerous awards among them the Trailblazer Award of Excellence. He is known and described as a political savvy individual with a patriotic zeal. This could be deduced from some of his statements and deductions regarding the country’s political system and progress.

‘’ When I sat down and reflected on the political situation of the country I realized that out of 100% of those stealing this country’s wealth more than 99.9% are people between the age of 60 years upward. It shows a sense of wickedness, oppression and hatred. If not that the youths of this country don’t like and appreciate each other how can we watch and allow one individual to steal 90 billion naira, another one steals trillions and yet another man steals 9.5 million US Dollars. Yet we do nothing but watch and make noise about it until it fizzles away; this is because we don’t know our rights and we are always scared. It is important that the youths in this country realize that we can do something to checkmate this 60years old and above individual by coming together to carry out a political revolution through organizing a strong youthful political party that would drive these wicked people away from our political setting. The truth is no one is going to drop from the sky to help us carry out this noble cause. Our destiny is in our hands in 2027 and by God’s grace the Young Progressive Party would surely come up.’’

This was one of his popular submissions while calling on the Nigerian youths to stand up and fight for their rights and see the way they can help dislodged the old political system with old and out of date men and women who have refused to relinquish power to the new generation.

The popular political activist has through Nigerian Youth Progressive Movement (NYPM) boldly canvassed for political change in the country and also enlightened and broaden the focus of youths in the country on the need to reflect and comprehend the dicey situation they now found themselves in the hands of these old men and women who are still greedily holding on to power despite their old age and poor grabs of the current world political changes.

According to him in one of his submissions while calling on the youth to be vigilant, he said.

‘’ Say no to old age exploitation of young age in Nigeria. Mark you millions are dying as a result of hunger and insecurity everyday and millions of graduates are also at home hopeless with no job. Many among them graduated with first class, second class upper. So our so-called leaders with no genuine original secondary school certificates are the ones deciding our future, a future that has no hope. ’’

That is Dr Shu’aibu for you, always straightforward and bold in his submission. No doubt this is the kind of person the Nigerian political system urgently needs and deserves to steer the country’s political ship towards positive and successful voyaging. The Nigerian youth deserves a better future with modern political reasoning and policies. This Shu’aibu Abdul through his youth movement have been canvassing and carrying out over the years with a strong mindset and unflinching hope that it is possible for the youths in the country to aspire into various political offices with confidence and grace. And at the moment the Nigerian Youth Progressive Movement (NYPM) is fast growing and establishing itself across the country.

As someone with passion in youth engagement in political activities and also interest in property development myself, I believe strongly that Dr Shu’aibu is on the right course with his movement and fully ready to support his noble idea and aspiration like other youthful Nigerians spoken with in the course of this write up. I strongly believe positively that the Nigerian Youth Progressive Movement would help solve the current absence of youth participation in governance across the country.

‘’ I think what Dr. Shu’aibu is doing is superb and commendable. This is exactly what the country youths need at this critical moment; a reliable youth movement or youth political party that would steer and galvanized them boldly towards power.’’

Say Alfred Ewiga, a law student responding to a question about the NYPM and its vision for youth participation and occupying high political office in the country.

Also Abubakar Idris, a youthful political enthusiast who says he can't wait to see a youthful Nigerian president like what just took place in Senegal.

‘’ Honestly, I am eagerly waiting for the day that Nigerians would vote for a youthful president like what the Senegalese just did by voting in 44 year old Bassirou Diomaye Faye . So I believe in what the Nigerian Youth Progressive Movement is canvassing for through its amiable president Dr. Shu’aibu Abdul. I am 100% in support of such idea and movement.’’ He said

For Sadiq Umar (Dan Agundi) a strong supporter of Dr Shu’aibu and the Nigerian Youth Progressive Movement, what the movement stands for is exactly what the Nigerian youth urgently needs. He expressed his continuous support to Dr. Shu’aibu and the NYPM.
No doubt the Nigerian political system is still left behind in its analog thinking and projections in the hands of the country’s old politicians who deserves to have retired and enjoying their old age and leave the country in the hands of youthful and more vibrant Nigerians who could compete favourably with their counterparts from other nations with youthful leaders. The fact that we now live in a global and digital world is important for the youths to be saddled with political power so as to advance the technological savvy ones among them and propel the country forward with new ideas and policies; this, the Nigerian Youth Progressive Movement (NYPM) with a reliable and responsible leader like Dr. Shu’aibu Abdul has shown it is possible. All that is needed is candid support and patriotic zeal among the Nigerian youths to achieve this urgent and important goal.

Education / Greenfield University: Producing Talented Graduates For Societal Development by Wasa005: 10:51am On Mar 23
The Nigerian landscape is currently dotted with numerous universities both public and private. But the private owned universities are springing up rapidly across all the geopolitical zones in the country. The government, acknowledging the growing demand of quality education, sensibly approved these universities owned and run by private individuals to complement its efforts of providing quality education to its people. Among these private universities is Greenfield University, the first private university in Kaduna State. The promoters and owners of this versatile university have a credible history spanning over twenty years of delivering good quality education at Nursery, Primary and secondary levels from inception. So its venture into the university system was a welcome initiative across the Nigerian education space. The outstanding feature of the university is the location of the school in the northern part of the country as envisioned by the promoters under the chairmanship of Chief Simon Nwakacha an engineer of repute who despite his roots of being an easterner patriotically went ahead and sited the university in the north without prejudice.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) approved the commencement of establishing the university in December, 2013 after assurance from the promoters of their full commitment to develop a unique university that will be a model of excellence and a reference for other universities in the country in terms of knowledge and service delivery. The approved and licensed Greenfield University commenced its academic activities in June 2019. And more than ten years after the promoters declared their intention to the National Universities Commission in 2013 to establish the university the institution has stood boldly and uniquely on its promise despite the challenges over the years.

His Royal Highness the Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Nuhu Ahmed Bamalli who is also the Chancellor of Greenfield University recently while commissioning the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences of the school rightly summed it up when he said.

‘’ We’ve four universities in Kaduna and the mother of all, we have ABU in Zaria. I cannot say we have enough, but with the population in Kaduna, it is not enough to cater for demands. With Greenfield in the Kaduna metropolis, more students will gain, from what we have seen; you have most of the required faculties. I believe in a couple of years, we should be seeing the university as a leader of private universities in the North. Our doors are always open, it is a technology-driven university, keep it up’’

No doubt that Greenfield University since its establishment has proved itself among other private universities in the country with exceptional quality teachings from its various accredited courses. Most of these courses are adaptable globally. Among the array of courses the university offers are Cyber Security, Civil Engineering, Criminology and Security Studies, Economics, Electrical and Electronic Engineering , Industry Chemistry , Finance and Investment Management, Information Technology, Political Science, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering and Physics with Electronics among others.

Located at Kudenda in a serene environment amidst beautiful greenish setting as its name implies the Greenfield University has not shifted its focus on the establishment of a unique university which will be highly sort after and a reference point within tertiary education and a core focus of providing graduates with various internationally recognised qualifications, skills and exposures tailored to the development of humanity. It has within a short term laid a strong foundation that ensures that its staff, students and graduates are well equipped and more reputable than their peers from other universities. This is not surprising given the fact that the vision of the university was founded on the quest for excellence by producing knowledgeable, talented and enviable graduates who can positively contribute to societal development. Its mission also evidently defined their focus to create an academic physically, technically, socially with a morally robust system driven to produced knowledgeable students as critical thinkers in different fields of study and also support students to achieve their personal goals and ambitions for their future in order to give them self-fulfillment, self –respect and self-confidence and also produce leaders with the knowledge and ability to reposition Nigeria among other great nations.
It was in recognition of the excellence provided by the university and its management that spurred the National Association of Northern Nigerian Students to bestow an Award of Excellence on the founder Engineer Simon Nwakacha. The award ‘’ Epitome of Educational Development’’ was in recognition of his laudable contribution to educational development of the country. The President of National Association of Northern Nigerian Students, Abdulrahman Ibrahim in an interview with newsmen, said that it is the tradition of the association to search for those that give to society, especially in education development to award them. “The award is meant to encourage him to do more. Being someone from Anambra State and he decided to establish a university in the North, it shows he is a patriotic Nigerian,” he said.

In his remarks at the well attended ceremony, Benjamin Danjuma Barde, Yeriman Gbagyi, a traditional leader said that the award was well deserved. “When I received the invitation for this award, I said it was not a mistake. As a representative of the community, we know he has done so much for the community in many regards, as well as scholarship. You are a blessing to the Gbagyi Chiefdom. This is just the beginning, more awards will come. ‘’ He said.

Reacting to the award Engineer Simon Nwakacha expressed his joy and swiftly dedicated the award to the students of the institution who lost their lives during an unfortunate kidnapping at the main campus. “This award is dedicated to all those who lost their lives in the struggle, the present students, Imperial students, in fact, the whole world,” he said.

According to the Pro-Chancellor while fielding questions from newsmen, he said he feels great because the award was presented by students of educational institutions in Nigeria and would spur him on to doing more. “There is a lot of work to be done to ensure a brighter future. We would continue to do our best,”

He then called on the government to through its intervention agencies support private institutions to ensure that Nigerian students excel in all ramifications. “I am saying that the government itself has been saying that they cannot do it alone, they need people to come and assist them so they should support private universities. During the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike, only private universities sustained education. Government is pumping much funding into public universities. The same should be done for private universities, it's necessary they fund both private and public universities. Even in advanced countries, the government was giving palliatives to Harvard and others. Its better government takes all along not necessarily equally, but it should be inclusive,” he appealed.

Engineer Nwakacha also recently awarded scholarships to two best graduating pupils (a male and a female) of Makarfi Central Primary school for their Secondary education at Imperial School Kaduna from JSS1 to SSS 3. He said the gesture was from his family to the two best graduating pupils. He revealed that the scholarship would be effective from the next academic session (2023/2024) on the occasion of the centenary anniversary of Makarfi Central Primary school. The Imperial School also owned by the pro-chancellor is a premier boarding primary and secondary school he founded in 1997 as part of his contribution to the development of education in Northern Nigeria.

Engineer Simon Nwakacha’s scholarship scheme cut across boundaries. The Pro-Chancellor who holds the traditional title of Onwa Umueri generously extended an amazing full scholarship to individuals from Umueri in Anambra State who are keen on pursuing their education at Greenfield University. The President General of Umueri Oke-Ebo, Dr Johnny Metchie, announced this generous gesture at the second Umueri General Assembly where he expressed his deepest appreciation on behalf of the people of Umueri.

‘’ I am extremely delighted to announce that the founder and Pro-chancellor of the esteemed Greenfield University, Engr. Chief Simon Nwakacha (Onwa Umueri) is extending an amazing full scholarship opportunity to individuals from Umueri who are keen on pursuing a degree program in the university. Dear Sir, please accept my deepest appreciation for this benevolent opportunity you have graciously extended to the community. Your generosity has filled our hearts with immense gratitude. Your commitment to education and empowerment is a beacon of inspiration for us all. On behalf of the entire Umueri community, we extend our profound thankfulness for your unwavering support and belief in the potential of our people. Your generosity will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on the lives of those who seize this golden opportunity.’’ He said.

The President General then encouraged and implored the people of Umueri to embrace this rare deed with purposeful determination. ‘’ I would like to take this opportunity to encourage and implore the people of Umueri to embrace this rare deed with purposeful determination. The chance to pursue a higher education in such a distinguished institution is a unique privilege that should not be overlooked. Let us unite in seize this moment to invest in our future, empower our youth and contribute to the growth and prosperity of our community.’’ He advised.

At the moment given its past experience Greenfield University has put in place appropriate security measures to ensure the protection of the lives and property of its students and staff against incident of banditry. The university management further cautioned the students against posting sensitive information about the school on social media and to be security conscious.

Speaking to the students during the matriculation of the 4th set of the University’s students, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Simon Daniel Katung, told students to be security conscious and avoid a late return to the campus hostel. He assured parents present at the occasion that Greenfield University is committed to producing graduates that will compete favourably with their peers globally; the Vice Chancellor warned that the University will not tolerate cultism amongst its students.

According to Professor Katung, “The University will continue to work round the clock to ensure the security of lives and properties of our students. However, students are expected to be security conscious throughout their stay at the University. Students are advised to always be in the hostel early because staying out late would not be condoned by the security personnel. Given the fact that the use of Social Media is in vogue in our society today, you are advised to use it for only positive things that will add value to your stay in the University. The University does not permit the activities of any antisocial groups operating on the campus. In particular, membership in cult groups is prohibited and offenders will be summarily expelled. Students are expected to exhibit a high sense of discipline while in the University. The University will not award its degree to students who are found wanting in character and in learning,” the Vice Chancellor warned.

He, however, pointed out that the university has made adequate arrangements for both academic and social facilities like a well-equipped library, Digital Resource Centre, as well as sporting facilities for students and staff’s academic excellence and physical fitness.

Some of the parents at the occasion expressed satisfaction with the facilities at the university’s campus and expressed confidence that the university will do its best in training their children. No doubt that Greenfield University is universally set to train and bring out the best brains that would be epitome of success by producing knowledgeable, talented and enviable graduates who can positively contribute to societal development.

Politics / Navigating Challenges: President Tinubu's Path To Renewed Hope by Wasa005: 9:51pm On Feb 22
By Engr. Muhammad Awal Ibrahim

In the face of current hardships Nigerians are enduring, it is crucial to maintain patience and resilience. The challenges posed by the harsh economy are temporary, as the government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is tirelessly working to implement reforms that will benefit all citizens.

Nigerians should continue to trust President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his team, their efforts are aimed at righting the long-standing wrongs in the nation. They said, "Charity begins at home". We cannot curse the children we give birth to and expect them to be good in society. Instead, we bless our children so they can contribute positively to society. Similarly, we must apply this mentality to our country. Rather than cursing Nigeria, we should strive to bless and uplift our nation, fostering a culture of growth, unity, and progress for a better future."

Mr. President is aware of the untold hardship faced by Nigerians due to the actions of some unpatriotic individuals exploiting government policies to inflict unnecessary suffering and his administration, in collaboration with state governors, has devised a comprehensive strategy to address this issue.

Furthermore, in the quest to mitigate the impact of oil subsidy and alleviate the burden on citizens, President Tinubu is actively working towards enhancing the minimum wage, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) should embrace a spirit of understanding during this transitional period. It is essential for the NLC to refrain from actions that could exacerbate tensions within the polity and hinder the progress being made.

By fostering dialogue and cooperation, both the government and the NLC can work together towards achieving a sustainable solution that benefits all Nigerians. It is crucial for all stakeholders to prioritize the well-being of the populace and collaborate constructively in shaping a better future for the nation.

The President is actively engaged in revamping our refineries, improving our educational sector, and enhancing our healthcare system. Additionally, there are plans in place to construct new roads and bridges, aiming to bolster infrastructure and facilitate smoother connectivity across the nation.

President Tinubu has shown remarkable resilience in combating insecurity in the nation. Under his leadership, kidnappers, bandits, and other criminal elements are facing defeats daily. Our gallant security personnel are resolutely taking decisive actions to squarely defeat these threats, ensuring the safety and security of our citizens. President Tinubu's unwavering commitment to addressing security challenges is evident in the ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability across the country.

The government is significantly contributing to the agro-revolution by implementing policies and initiatives to boost food production for the country's self-sufficiency. This includes providing support to farmers through access to improved farming techniques, modern agricultural equipment, quality seeds, and fertilizers. Additionally, the government is investing in irrigation systems, storage facilities, and market access to help increase agricultural productivity and ensure food security for the nation.

President Tinubu's commitment to the country is unwavering, and Nigerians should continue to believe in his vision. The trust placed in him by the citizens is not misplaced; he is dedicated to steering the country towards a brighter future. The Renewed Hope mantra of Mr. President is not just a slogan but a strategic plan to reset the nation.

Despite the current challenges, there is a steadfast assurance that with perseverance and faith, Nigeria will emerge stronger. Let us hold onto hope and trust in the leadership as they work towards a better tomorrow for all. Together, with unity and determination, we can overcome the obstacles and see the light at the end of the tunnel.

God bless the Federal republic of Nigeria 🇳🇬

May PBAT succeed...
