The additive inverse of centripetal acceleration is centrifugal accelration. Then, from acceleration, you get centrifugal force. Gravity has its sink to infinity. So, the influence of sun's gravity ectends beyond even the solar system! but it gets weaker as you go further. It holds all the 8 planets. IIf the sun was to come very close to earth, (almost touching it) we will all be carried off to the sun because its gravitational force then will be stronger than that of earth. But now, due to its distance, it's gravitational force is weaker than earth to us.
