EXCLUSIVE: MIKEL AGREES PERSONAL TERMS WITH DUBAI CLUB

We first broke the story that Mikel is set to make a sensational switch to the Dubai club, who parade Ghana skipper Asamoh Gyan.

And we can now also report that Mikel was in Dubai to discuss contract terms with Al Ain this past week.

Mikel for Dubai club

“Mikel has agreed personal terms with Al Ain and it is now left for Chelsea and the Dubai club to agree on a transfer fee,” Mikel’s representative Babawo Mohammed informed AfricanFootball.com

“He has returned to England to communicate all these to Chelsea.

“We just have to wait and see what Chelsea say in this regard.”

Mikel still has a contract till June 2016 with the English Premier League champions, but in the past two seasons he has played mainly a bit role for ‘The Blues’.

AFRICAN CHAMPIONS NIGERIA BATTLE CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE cry cry cry
by WERBUNG

The Flying Eagles recorded six points from three matches to finish second behind Brazil, who won the group after they beat North Korea to tally the maximum

Taiwo Awoniyi gave Nigeria the lead in the 33rd minute, when he finished off a low drive by Godwin Saviour from the right flank.

Awoniyi doubled the advantage after 54 minutes, when he cashed in on a defensive mix-up to round up the Hungary goalkeeper Gyorgy Szekely for his second goal of the tournament.

Hungary took the early attacking initiative, but it was it was Nigeria that really threatened after Godwin Saviour shot narrowly missed target after 12 minutes.

The Hungary goalkeeper then pushed to corner a goal-bound shot by Kingsley Sokari in the 14th minute.

Two minutes later, Bernard Bulbwa saw his promising pile driver also deflected for a corner.

Awoniyi was denied a goal by goalkeeper Szekely, who saved his header from inside the six-yard box.

The gangling striker could have completed his hat-trick on 59 minutes, but he could not direct shot on target when he was faced with an open goal.

Minutes later, he combined beautifully with leftback Mustapha Abdullahi but the flowing move was thwarted for a corner.

Sokari’s shot on 75 minutes from inside the box was too weak and too direct to trouble the goalkeeper.

Late substitute Moses Simon threatened the Hungary when he came on, but the Flying Eagles had already done enough to carry the day.

FIFA U20 World Cup: History made as all four African teams reach knock-out stage

History was made Sunday when all four African teams at the FIFA U20 World Cup – Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal and Mali – made it to the knockout stage of the competition for the first time ever.

Interestingly, it will be an all-African clash on Wednesday, when Ghana face Mali in Wellington.

Ghana, the first and only team from Africa to win this competition in 2009, lost 1-0 to Mali in the group stage of the African Youth Championship in Senegal in March, before they avenged this defeat by beating their West African rivals to finish third in the same tournament.

This fixture means that at least an African team are guaranteed a place in the last eight of this tournament.

African champions Nigeria will take on the champions of Europe Germany on Thursday in Christchurch after the Flying Eagles finished second in Group E behind Brazil.

Senegal, hosts and runners-up at the 2015 AYC, also made it to the knockout rounds after they finished as one of the “third best losers” and they will now tackle Ukraine in Auckland on Wednesday.

FIFA U20 World Cup: Ghana's Godfred Donsah is fifth most valuable player in New Zealand

Godfred Donsah Valuable Player shocked shocked shocked

By werbung

Black Satellites midfielder Godfred Donsah is regarded as the fifth most expensive player at the ongoing FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand, according to renowned player transfer news outlet Transfermarket.

The 18-year-old, who played the recently ended Serie A season with relegated Cagliari, is fifth to German pair of Marc Stendera, Julian Brandt, Argentina’s Angel Correa and Brazil’s Danilo.

Godfred Donsah is the 5th most expensive player at New Zealand

Donsah dubbed the ‘New Essien’ is a hot cake for England’s top five clubs with Manchester City and Liverpool keen to fight for his signature though his agent Oliver Arthur has said there is no official bid from any of these clubs.

Donsah is worth 4.5 million Euros, just 500K shy of Stendera, Brandt and Correa.

The young midfield dynamo is expected to switch to West Ham United after the end of the U20 World Cup campaign.

KESHI: ARE FLYING EAGLES READY FOR MY EAGLES?
by Werbung
Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi has asked whether the Flying Eagles, who are currently featuring at the U20 World Cup in New Zealand, are ready to step up to full international level soon.

On Thursday, the country’s team got their U20 World Cup campaign back on track with a 4-0 thrashing of Korea DPR with clamour for several of the exciting talent there like Kelechi Iheanacho, skipper Musa Mohammed and Wilfred Ndidi to be drafted to the Super Eagles .

Iheanacho, Taiwo Awoniyi and Dele Alampasu have already trained with the home-based Eagles under Keshi with Alampasu making the final squad to the 2014 CHAN in South Africa.

But Keshi has asked several questions as regards the readiness of the U20 stars to be part of his Super Eagles.

"Are they ready? If they left the tournament what will they be doing? What is their concentration level? What is the desire to go forward or to remain where they are?," he queried

"It’s about after this tournament what happens to the players? As Flying Eagles player, you dream to play in the senior team.

"It’s difficult to say but if they stayed focus as football players or their chosen career, I think it’s a bright future for Nigeria football.’’

He therefore urged the Flying Eagles to be disciplined to enable them get to the final of the ongoing World Cup in New Zealand.

FLYING EAGLES GO FOR BROKE AGAINST HUNGARY
by Werbung
Saturday Jun 06, 2015. 20:00
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles plan to beat Hungary on Sunday in a final U20 World Cup Group E match so as to guarantee automatic qualification to the knockout round of FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand.

Kick-off for this game is 5pm local time, which is 6am in Nigeria, and the match will be staged at the Stadium Taranaki.

Both teams have not met previously in this competition and a win or even a draw could well qualify both of them to the Round of 16.

Nigeria lost their opening game to Brazil 4-2 and won the second against against Korea DPR 4-0 in the second game, while Hungary won their first game against Korea 5-1 and lost 2-1 to Brazil.

Both Nigeria and Hungary are on three points apiece, but the Europeans enjoy a better goals difference of +3 with Nigeria on +2.

So, if this game ended in a draw, Hungary will finish as group runners-up and face fellow Europeans Germany, who destroyed them 6-1 in the qualifiers.

Nigeria 4 Korea 0 kick-by-kick

Coach Manu Garba said he hopes his team finish behind group winners Brazil with a win.

“We want to at least finish second in our group and so we want the maximum points against Hungary,” he said.

“We came here to win every game because we want to win the World Cup. We don’t want to go back home early, we want to be the last team to leave New Zealand.”

Midfielder Ifeanyi Matthew remains out of the team after a terrible cut on his foot in the match against Brazil.

Otherwise, Manu has all the other 20 players available for selection, but it is left to be seen whether Europe-based stars like Kelechi Iheanacho, Isaac Success and Moses Simon could now be started after they were dropped to the bench for the Korea match.

Manu demands more from two-goal hero Saviour

Hungary will be without defender Krisztian Tamas, who was sent off early in the first half in the team’s plucky display against Brazil.

Dangerman is top striker Bence Mervo, who has scored four goals including a aht-trick in the 5-1 annihiliation of Korea. He is big, strong and good aerially.

He is complimented by Red Bull Leipzig midfielder Zsolt Kalmar, who is already a full international for his country.

German coach Bernd Storck said his team also want to win on Sunday.

“We want to win the game like we want to win every game, just like Nigeria,” he said.

MANU PREDICTS AFRICAN WORLD CHAMPIONS shocked shocked
by Werbung
Saturday Jun 06, 2015. 10:31
Flying Eagles coach Manu Garba has predicted an African team will win this year’s FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand.

Ghana made history in 2009 when they became the first African team to win the U20 World Cup, while Nigeria have reached the championship game twice, in 1989 and 2005.

The Black Satellites of Ghana and Mali are already through to the knockout rounds of the tournament in New Zealand, while Nigeria and Senegal are still in with a chance of progressing.

“Ghana and Mali have been fantastic,” saluted the Nigeria U20 coach.

“We are just picking up.

“But we are most likely to get two African teams in the semifinals and God’s willing, the trophy will return to Africa.”

Manu has equally taken notice of the organisation of the European teams as well as the sleeky skills of Brazil.

“The European teams like Germany, Serbia and Portugal are doing well because they are tactically organised, while Brazil have proved they are a decent side as well,” he remarked.

“The knockout rounds will show who are the top teams here.”

After a 1-1 draw between Mali and Uruguay on the final day of matches in Group D at the FIFA U-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015 on Saturday, both teams were left level on points and goal difference. As per article 17.5 of the tournament Regulations, the position of each team was therefore determined by a drawing of lots.

Rhiannon Martin, FIFA Project Lead of the U-20 World Cup, conducted the draw at Tournament Headquarters in Auckland, witnessed and followed by representatives of both teams and representatives of the Organising Committee.

The result of the draw was as follows:
2nd Place Group D: Uruguay
3rd Place Group D: Mali kiss kiss

Lovely and interesting pictures! I don’t want to spoil anyone’s mood by analysing the pictures here. But let me quickly say one or two things. Oshiomhole should have settled for a bright coloured suit to complement the complexion difference between him and his new wife. That you are black does not mean you must wear dark suit on this occasion. Take picture 1 for example, his dark suit really accentuated the difference. If the thumb and the forefinger of Oshiomhole’s left hand bearing the wife’s left wrist had touched, one would have have thought that the woman was wearing black bangles because of the difference in complexion.
Picture 3 shows the actual difference in height between the governor and his wife. There is nothing significance about this. In picture 4 the wife (a model?) decided to flex her left knee a little while the governor stood erect with his head in parade ground position all in an attempt to make up for the difference in height. This is a good style and the trick worked.
Picture 8 is the worst picture here. The editors should not have published this picture. What could Oshiomole’s wife and her mother be discussing while the president-elect Buhari and vice president-elect Osinbajo were standing ready to take photograph with them? This is an opportunity in a life time. See the consternation and near embarrassment on the faces of Oshiomhole, Buhari and even Saraki as they look in that direction. I hope Oshiomhole would not have a meddlesome mother-inlaw. Where is Oshomhole’ s mother? It does not matter; this picture is for “city people”!
I wish Oshiomole happy marriage and the new first lady of Edo state well!

Foreign Affairs / Re: Explosion At Goil Filling Station In Ghana, 75 Dead by Werbung(f): 12:44pm On Jun 04, 2015
President John Dramani Mahama is touring affected areas hit by floods in Accra including the scene of the Goil fuel station explosion at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, which has taken the lives of about a hundred people with many severely injured.

President Mahama who visited the areas in the early morning of Thursday, June 4, 2015, was appalled by the situation and blamed human activity as a contributory factor to the flooding from the heavy downpour of Wednesday.

He said government officials were working throughout the night to offer support to victims and they will take measures to make sure it never happens again.

“Often when these measures are drastic, you have a lot of sympathy and pressure not to take those measures but I think that the time has come for us to remove houses out of water ways and the public should understand that it is necessary to save everybody else.”

President Mahama also described the heavy loss of lives on Wednesday as “catastrophic and unprecedented”.
