Politics / Re: Binance’s $20Bn Turnover From Nigeria Is Far Above Our Health, Education Budgets by whitejs: 8:45am On Jun 07
wirinet:

This is the internet age, it's near impossible to stop Nigerians from using the Internet to trade and do business with any site on the Internet. The government should have deviced innovative ways of taxing these companies. Imagine the revenue the government should have gotten from taxing Facebook, Google, Binance, alibaba/aliexpress, in fact any site that receive money from Nigerians.

Imagine Google was to pay the French government close to €1 billion in 2019. Just Google o, by the time you add Facebook, alibaba, ebay and others, you can imagine how much France is raking in from taxing Internet companies.

Even the US issue with Binance has to do with taxes and not currency manipulation shit. The US permitted Binance to operate a US subsidiary different from the parent company for monitoring and tax purposes. The US government wants to collect their own share of the crypto largesse.

Good. That means these internet companies are really cheating Nigeria and maybe other African countries.

If you have any suggestions, what innovative ways could you recommend?
Politics / Re: Flashback: Why I Opposed Awolowo On Secession - Zik by whitejs: 11:54pm On Jun 06
LifestyleTonite:

Your people's penchant to look away even when truth stares them in the face is legendary.

Look at how you excused Zik from the blame. Zik ought to have argued in favour of secession like Awolowo, but he probably thought his people would succeed in lording over other tribes. Sadly, the opposite is the case today.

If Zik had supported secession clause, that would have been two against one. His people won't be screaming Biafra or death today and begging to secede. So you see, Awolowo was a visioneer, he saw today from yesterday.

It's sad that you now want Awolowo to commit a treasonable offense like Ojukwu after the latter's brother Zik supported the law that placed secessionist tendencies as treason.

The moment you fail to acknowledge the truth, no matter how bitter, you will start to make horrible decisions. That's what is wrong with your people.

I was laughing at those crying all over Nairaland, claiming that Interpol will help extradite the man back to Nigeria.

Make Una go carry am come na.

Nigeria will be the looser in this case

That guy will be released.

Binance is no longer in Nigeria (this could have earned enough revenue for the country)

100% of crypto inclined Nigerians still use Binance (infact millions of Nigerians signed up on binance recently because of NOTCOIN AND TAPSWAP).

Other crypto platforms will never send representatives to discuss any deals with Nigeria.

Even if you block access to this sites, Nigerians will bypass it with VPN.

Since Naira didn't return back to 800/$ after P2P was shut down, everyone now sees this government as a joke.

How?
But they don't pay tax
Unless you are talking about new negotiation

They are throwing out false figures because they heard US lawmakers have written to president Biden to get involved in his release. How can a company that is not registered in your country pay tax?

If so, how come they are doing business in Nigeria
Are they supposed to or is it legal for them to do business in Nigeria without registering?

Oga shut up, you're bringing politics to it. You people find out that top 5 scorer of this year jamb are from the east, probably top 3 are from Anambra and that will be an added advantage to Peter Obi presidential quest hence you come up with this headless and meaningless excuse.

Yes , Mmesoma Bleep up, but the most important thing is, even when she was exposed, the legitimate top scorer of that year Jamb was still a girl from the east, Anambra precisely.

Before you come for me, I am not Igbo, this is an Akwa Ibom man typing here .

@whitejs,

What I wrote up there is about Diasporans who send remittances to Nigeria. This is done by giving a Nigerian who is a money transfer agent in the city of residence in the U.S. or UK, USD or British pounds and the agent sends the Naira equivalent to your bank account in Nigeria from his own account in Nigeria.

Alternatively, you can read through this recent NL thread link below to get a hang of the types of money transfer apps in use for receiving money by some of the remote workers.

Very succinctly stated.

The speculative activities of middlemen and black marketers in the currency markets and food space amounts to a huge sabotage which NO decent country worldwide would accept.

Another major challenge with Nigeria is that Diaspora remittances (which estimates show amounts to 20 billion USD as of 2023) have been disrupted by money transfer apps, and cryptos (such as USDT and Binance).

Now, out of this 20 billion USD remittances, only less than 10 percent (or $2 billion USD) gets to Nigeria and finds it's way to the illegal parallel or black markets. Most Nigerian Diaspora surveyed actually have stopped sending money to their beneficiaries in Nigeria via Western Union and MoneyGram. instead Diasporans use money transfer apps to pay the sender or agent in hard currencies. The money agent then converts the money into Naira by paying into the bank account of the Diasporan or the beneficiary's bank. All these happen within 5 minutes on a mobile phone.

UPDATE: I just read on NL that there are plans to move against the crypto and binance by the CBN because of the wild price moves and manipulation of the bid and ask prices which is what the parallel market or illegal black market uses as rates for distorting the overall currency markets.

What app is currently ok for receiving fund pls

Politics / Re: FG And 36 State Governors Agree To Create State Police To Combat Insecurity by whitejs: 10:27pm On Feb 15
Bovis:

The arguments against state police is flawed because police officers can be redeployed outside their usual states of operation during elections. Additionally, states police can be made accountable to the federal (IG) of police instead of state governors. The constitution can always be amended

But we want the state police to serve the state well esp this herdsmen and other insecurity

If they are made accountable to the federal pol (IG)
then how possible

If it isn't a two-way deal (i.e. also allowing Nigerian lawyers to practise in the UK) then it makes no sense.

That's another form of economic exploitation cos it would make Nigerian law firms irrelevant to people who would have hired them from the UK.

Is this how we are going to solve the insecurity challenge of this country? The issue of kidnapping is better solved through 70% intelligence and about 30% of brute force.

I think the DSS and the NSA should help us more. Even if they want to deploy soldies cant it be discreetly done?

By this announcement now every kidnapper in Ekiti will just leave Ekiti state for now. They can continue their nefarious acts on other states that are yet to get soldiers deployment.
