Meanwhile, they stare at blacks a lot out of admiration. Don’t be surprised to see them approach you and request for a selfie. About 4 Vietnamese ladies have approached me for a selfie, also 2 vietnamese guys have done same. I’ve received gift as well from a Vietnamese lady. And while I was typing my last response from where we seated, another of their lady approached me for a selfie. It’s really weird to me tho, but it’s more of admiration than racism. Their police is also friendly to black too.

And again, this is after 1 week of been here. Maybe because we’re still new, the whole culture shock and all that.

Yea they like our guys too grin grin

Guys please, I tried to apply for my 25% but I was told I have to visit one of their branches to do data re-capture.

I sent them a mail stating I wasn't in the country and asked if I could do it via mail like I did the last time to which they said I must visit a branch.

Has anyone encountered this?

Any advice please?

Finally met Whyna today in Hanoi, Vietnam, after a 3 days flight from Lagos Nigeria. In few words: “she is a wonderful person “. Will share more details about our journey later, but in the meantime, have some videos for your view.

Modified:
I can’t post videos, so I will be posting some screenshots from the videos instead

@jendy36 It was nice meeting you guys too albeit being too tired.

Welcome to Vietnam!

I like that you guys are pro-active and you've got heads on your shoulders. You guys will go far.

Please try and update the house as you go along.

Hopefully, when you're more settled and stable, we'll all hang out with the others. Cheers

For those still in doubt, take a look at the results of this survey conducted earier this year. It gives the average salary of teachers in vietnam based on several parameters

Please read and digest. If there are any parts that still remain unclear, you can ask

How are you whyna? I trust you are doing great. Please give us update concerning situation of things in Vietnam. Thanks

And any other persons staying/schooling in Vietnam should please give update just to keep the thread moving.

Thanks a lot.

Hi Vision202,

Yes I'm doing great.

Apologies to everyone for not writing sooner.

Everything is back to normal.

It's summer now and yesterday was the hotest so far! Like blazing hot, skin frying, hot air ( of the little blowing) kinda hot. I was sweating like a christmas goat in class after I decided to do fit fam and trek It was early morning oo. 7:30am.

By afternoon when my friend came to pick me with car, the journey from an AC lit classrom, down the stairs, to the car, plus the wait for the car AC to pick up saw me sweating profusely again. My friend that sat in the car and drove reached home and applied lotion on her face that sun burned her undecided undecided undecided

Anyways, that's how hot it was/is in summer here. Last year was milder I think.....or because i was always indoors due to covid I didn't notice? Anyways.....

On teaching, things are back to normal now like I mentioned before. Schools are on summer break but thank God for Centers aka Lesson grin grin grin

I'm back to teaching everyday. Phew.....it's a huge relief from not being able to teach for one year!

Now i get to hear funny names like Cat, Chipmunk, Dream, Spiderman and the likes angry angry and listen to some of their funny accent and way of asking What's your name cheesy cheesy cheesy I (Washyourlame in a sing song) grin grin

Still maintained some of my online classes too which is good.

That's bascically it....People go around without masks now....some. The fear has reduced or is forgotten sef.

For those coming in, no more quarantine but you still get to do the covid test because of course we're from Africa.

No they don't pay in dollar. Your salary per hour is negotiated in dollar and you're paid the equivalent in VND

please at why na I want to start my visa process for Vietnam, I've enjoyed most of the post I read from your thread And I want love you to guide me on how to go about it, how were you able to get your Visa and work permit from Nigeria

Yup. You can start.

Everywhere is open now and there's a huuuuuuuuuge demand for teachers.

In my 2 years plus of being here, it's never been this crazy so anyone who wants to come here to work should start processing their work permit and visa

@Whyna thanks for the updates about your adventures over there so far. I have a problem about something here or lemme say I'm curious. I checked the Vietnamese Dong to Nigerian Naira exchange rate and I discovered the Naira even has more value than the Song and in fact, 5000Dong is equal to just around 91Naira... Please with this, how possible is it for someone to go work over there with the hope of sending money back home to Nigeria. How well do they pay for jobs there? Can one achieve much in Nigeria within few years of being in Vietnam? Thanks!

The difference is...here, you make between 7000-13000 naira per hour.

So in 10 hours, you make more than what some make in a month in Nigeria

Hello @ WhyNa and others, thanks for the great work. Please, I need some clarification.

I have been working with an agent to get me visa in order to teach in Vietnam. He recently told me that I can only get visa now and while work permit will be given to me by the employer I will be working with when I reach there.

Does this make sense please?

I am raising this because I saw in your post that you got Visa and work permit before you left Nigeria.

Please, do you think I should go ahead with what this person said or otherwise?

Thanks

I see my previous reply that you should be weary of this agent was deleted.

Don't know why but make sure you get your work permit before you leave Nigeria

@ WhyNa How are you coping with the recent increase in COVID-19 cases in Vietnam? Hope you are staying safe? And hope it's not affecting jobs? We that we are planning to come, hope it won't affect us?

Kindly update us.

Hi, we're good.

The cases are increasing but I think it's the omicron variant cos people just stay at home now till they get better in like 10-14 days

People are still entering. Just have all your correct paperwork and you're good to go

Is this budget still feasible?

Going by d current black market exchange rate of about #570 to $1, this should be about $3.5k

I think you can answer this question yourself boss.

Christmas village 2021

The concept was really great. Sadly I've deleted most of the pictures I took.

So you to the reception and sign for your raffle card

Then you go to the Christmas village and slot it into the raffle machine and pick a number.

A bag drops out our the machine and you take that bag to the collection point to claim your gift. Na wetin you pick you go get.

And no you can't ask your friend which number and machine he used because the gifts changes cheesy cheesy

Some of the gifts were shopping bags, tea mugs, aprons, games, colouring books, Starbucks vouchers, sticker books etc

I wanted the apron or white shopping bag while praying i don't pick that snake and ladder game but got a mug and many people wanted to exchange the mug so I hol am tight grin grin grin
