@ Adamu W
Thanks for the comments, I think I properly matched the cg-elements because I did test renders with simple boxes around the path the robot took, however, it might not be sitting properly with the live footage because i did not get the shadows right, the shadow you are seeing there isn't what i expected to achieve.

I did not have any projects at hand when i started the composite, so i wanted to do it quickly, because if i got a project it means i'd abandon have to this. So I'd say it was a hurried job.

Hi every body, just completed a vfx shot, it also contains a breakdown of how i did it, you can download the link here :

Low res version (1.05mb):    http://cyphabox.net/content/Vfx_Shot_+_Breakdown.FLV
High Res version (4.28mb):   http://cyphabox.net/content/Vfx_Shot_+_Breakdown.wmv

you will need an FLV player to watch the low res version, or go to my site and watch it, it's the second video on the list.

My site is cyphabox.net
I've attached some screen shots of the video.

Waiting for your comments.

Art, Graphics & Video / Re: Our Industry Is Dying And Needs A Boost! by wilsonhaze(m): 9:25pm On Feb 25, 2009
There's a lot of stuff involved in getting a protege, because most people aren't really ready to commit to the kind of patience involved in learning the arts, and honestly you can't force someone who doesn't have that creative drive to suddenly develop them automatically, and there's people that are willing to learn, but some time differences stop it from happening, and bla bla bla reasons so on and so on.
So far since last year i have only met one person that's willing to learn, and i think we're making progress.
So in general it's not a rosy task.

But the big fat question is what is gonna give the industry the boost soji is talking about?, cos' the protege aspect is just a side kick factor. so??
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: Our Industry Is Dying And Needs A Boost! by wilsonhaze(m): 3:19pm On Feb 25, 2009
Interesting thread, I haven't seen anyone like this in a long time.
Anything I say now is from my own point of view;
business is business, whether you are running a production company or a fish store.
1. Most companies usually fold up after they've lost their focus, when that hunger that used to drive them is satisfied, they quickly forget the humble beginnings.
2. Most companies fold up after poor managerial skills, like what soji said involving water in the generator.
3. And there's the issue of marketing.
4. Research is another important "folder up", like neptune said; discovering whats in vogue, like newer production tools and techniques.

So, I'm sure when clients start seeing all these defects, they quietly pack their bags one after the other, until you have nothing but a crumbling company.

Getting a protege is quite a task, since it involves a lot of patience and time similarities between you and your protege, but it is absolutely very important.
Well, like neptune said, i don't think our industry is even sick self, talk less of dying.
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: How Best Would You Achieve The Effect Of Talking To Yourself (twin). by wilsonhaze(m): 4:28pm On Dec 12, 2008
In that movie, during the fight when they had to show both faces, the second person wasn't Jet-li, I can't remember , but i think the head was digitally replaced as Sojiguns said, I think the other guy had a similar physical appearance.

On the other hand, How Best Would You Achieve The Effect Of Talking To Yourself (twin)?, you will be doing a lot of double shots plenty, plenty of compositing too, choreography
and expressions to relate to the twin character will be very important too.
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: Green Screen Vs. Blue Screen by wilsonhaze(m): 9:50am On Dec 11, 2008
From my mini experience, I'd prefer Green Screen cos' I think it's easier to setup (lights, etc), but from my studies, blue is a colour that isn't in the skin tone. I'd advice we use Green Screen in Nigeria. This topic is a very long story.

@justbone, your work is rated wack because of the following reasons; 1. there is not much effects in the image 2. the guy looks like he's floating, probably needs shadows, the fire explosion looks unreal because it dosent have debris and particles all over, 3. the flying object should also have fire trailing it.

@OKX, your work is rated wack because of the following reasons; 1. most of the smoke in your image looks transparent, that smoke is too thick to be transparent 2. the guy's eyeglass is not transparent, 3. some of the buildings that were falling dont actually have debris following it 4. i know you were trying to illustrate the effect of the explosions on the guys face by adding the yellow shade or glow over his face, but it's not very right.

overall you guys did a spectacular job.
@neptune, your job is still the best.
i should be posting mine tomorrow, though i've finished it a long time ago.

Art, Graphics & Video / Re: No Industry Challenge On Nairaland Graphic Fourm by wilsonhaze(m): 9:33pm On Jun 03, 2008
I think "strict" encourages harder/better work.
Here's a better critic;

@ Neptune, you have the coolest work so far, but some part of the fire in your work dosent belong, and the overall tone of the image is not grimey as requested, but your work is near tight.

@Raymond88, i'll rate you second after Neptune, the overall tone of your work is too sepia, the colors are missing, and how come the guy is floating on the air his direction shows he is running, he is not placed properly

@Kemjisuper, your work is third placed, the guy dosent belong, your does not look realistic at all, expecially the fire, the planes there look like clipart, the bus in the pic was not properly cut and it is entirely out of place

@in2gold, i've commmented on your work before, i think you need to  go back to the board.

Cheers! Coming soon. Final date = 2nd week of this month.
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: No Industry Challenge On Nairaland Graphic Fourm by wilsonhaze(m): 7:54pm On Jun 02, 2008
@in2gold you work is rated : Very Very Wack!! 100% Wack!!, peronally i'll add an extraordinary wack to it. in fact its the wackest so far!!

The man standing in front does not even match the background lighting and color details. The fire is too unrealistic, everything is just wrong

If you want to upload a file thats around 1mb use this site www.imageshack.us you can host your files for free!!
Cheers! , watch out for mine
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: No Industry Challenge On Nairaland Graphic Fourm by wilsonhaze(m): 9:16pm On Jun 01, 2008
I think nairaland has an upload file limit of 200kb, i'd suggest you upload the file on another server, then upload a lower resolution for viewing here.

So far i'll rate what we have , as i said there is nothing like the design is ok, its either;
1. Tight!
2. Wack!
3. Very Very Wack!! 100% Wack!!

So neptune's work = Wack!,
Raymond88's work = Wack!,
Kemjisuper's work = Very Very Wack!! 100% Wack!!,

Mine is ready, but'll be uploaded soon. Awaiting more entries!! grin

So, no probs, i have extended the deadline, to the 2nd week of june.

But that don't mean that you should beg for more time after that.

Your work will be graded as follows

1. Tight!
2. Wack!
3. Very Very Wack!! 100% Wack!!

THERE IS NOTHING LIKE " Your work is ok."
See you guys then.
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: No Industry Challenge On Nairaland Graphic Fourm by wilsonhaze(m): 6:07pm On May 21, 2008
Ok, here it is, , the theme of the challange is titled "Alien Lagos", you are to download the image in this link

http://students.som.yale.edu/sigs/bba/TripPhotos/Downtown%20Lagos.JPG

its a picture taken across a bridge.

The output image should contain the following,

1' space ships crashed into the buildings
2' a man standing from the bridge watching the crash
3' lots of broken down buildings, angry skies, smoke & explosions

Add whatever you want to add, but the endpoint should be a gore looking scene.

submission is before, the end of this month, i'm in too.

I bet you know what i mean.
Now, who's running ??
