How can 2 work together except they agree? The beauty of marriage other than companionship, procreating e.t.c is the ability to strenghten each other especially as it relates to financial intelligence. How can you know your financial capability if you cnanot be honest about your salary? My husband and I review our net pay periodically, agree on spend - expenses and monthly savings expected from each other as well as our short to medium term investment outlet. Do not underestimate the power of this and a double source of income. |

Hmm,got mine the week I was meant to complete my NYSC, it was a very good job - good company, career path, and the remuneration was over N195k at the time - over 7 yrs ago. I didn't know anyone at the company, submitted my CV online. It is important to clarify and explain the following: 1. I trusted God and believed him for the companies (I selected) I would love to work with and that I will start working the week after NYSC. Back in school, I did a seed offering for a job. 2. I like my profession, passionate about it. 3. I did my professional exams alongside my undergrad, had both before completing NYSC. 4.My grades were excellent. I wish you all the best! 1 Like |

@op, my position is that you have the answers you seek. Whatever action you take is largely dependent on your expected outcome. Here are some questions for you: Do you honestly want to marry him? Do you mind a divorce in future? Would you rather mother a child alone or with an ex-husband? Since you are Nigerian, society would rather the later. Do you want to really know the truth? All the best. |

Am not surprised at this post.By grace are we saved, no one can come to God except He draws them nigh. God's existence is evident in everything around us. God's ways are not our ways, hence, no one can understand except by the revelation of the Almighty Himself. God is spirit and he that worship him must do so in spirit and in truth. Until the spirit of God is awake, it may be difficult to understand. |

I work in the same company, same office and same floor with my husband. My unit serves as control on their unit so we interface a lot. We are both heads of our teams but get by perfectly. If not for the surname, you may not know we are married. We have agreed and don't mix home with work. So far so good. |

Career / Re: Bad Experiences You Encounter Within Your Office. by Wumami: 3:34pm On Mar 30, 2010 |
@Poster Saw this yesterday but just have the time to respond, I always believed there was nothing like politics going on in my office until I asked a colleague who mentioned that he had heard about it before. Why didn't I hear or notice it? I believe in the following: 1. Your work will always speak for you. 2. We’ll all reap as we have sown (note that reaping has a multiplier effect of what is sown). 3. Promotion only comes from God. I didn't because I was so much engrossed in striving to be the best I can be and meeting all work expectations (colleagues, subordinates, direct reports, superiors, contemporaries and customers). First I would emphasise the importance of putting God first in everything you do (including handling challenges, prioritising, interpretation of tasks and their deliveries within stipulated deadlines). While I understand some bosses can be unbearable (maybe I can), it is all about delivery. I tell my friends all the time that it is not about the activity but all about results. If we all learn to forget about averages, i.e don’t strive to be an average performer but be the best thing that has happened to your team/ company (while at it, please be very humble and be open to corrections). Ask yourself the following questions: Is it possible to score 85% and your lecturer marks it down to 39%? Is it possible to be results oriented and every other person except your boss is blind to this fact? Would your boss who hates you mark you down when it is very obvious you are the best to everyone? Fact: Oppressors are only able to victimise boarder line/ average performers, If your answer to any of the above is yes, my recommendation is to keep up the good work, you will be found out soonest. This is just a way to distract you from your goal and I can assure you it is only temporary. My conclusion: While I understand that some offices can be terrible, whatever form of victimisation faced is caused by contributory factors from both the victim and the oppressor. While the oppressors’ is not controllable, the victims’ is controllable by the individual. As they say, there is no smoke without fire. Do your best and leave the rest to God. Ok, for those in doubt about bofid 1991 and powers of the CBN S33 Where a bank informs the Bank (CBN) that - (a) it is likely to become unable to meet its obligations under this Decree; or (b) it is about to suspend payment to any extent; or (c) it is insolvent; or (d) where, after an examination under section 32 of this Decree or otherwise howsoever, the Bank is satisfied that the bank is in a grave situation as regards the matter referred to in section 32(1) of this Decree, the Governor may by order in writing exercise any one or more of the power specified in subsection (2) of this section. (2) The Governor may be order in writing under subsection (1) of this section- (a) prohibit the bank from extending any further credit facility for such period as may be set out the order, and make the prohibition subject to such exceptions, and impose such conditions in relation to the exceptions as may be set out in the order, and from time to time, by further order similarly made, extend the aforesaid period; (b) require the bank to take any steps or any action or to do or not to do any act or thing whatsoever, in relation to the bank or its business or its directors or officers which the Bank may consider necessary and which is set out in the order, within such time as may be stipulated therein; (c) with the approval of the President, remove for reasons to be recorded in writing, with effect from such date as may be set out in the order, any manager or officer of the bank, notwithstanding anything in any written law, or any limitations contained in the memorandum and articles of association of the bank; (d) in respect of a bank, notwithstanding anything in any written law or any limitations contained in the memorandum and articles of association of the bank, and in particular, notwithstanding any limitation therein as to the minimum or maximum number of directors, for reason to be recorded in writing - (i) remove from officer, with effect from such date as may be set out in the order, any director of the bank; or (ii) appoint any person or persons as a director or directors of the bank, and provide in the order for the person or persons so appointed to be paid by the bank such remuneration as may be set out in the order; (e) appoint any person to advise the bank in relation to the proper conduct of its business, and provide in the order for the person so appointed to be paid by the bank such remuneration as may be set out in the order. Education / Re: Inflation. What Does It Really Means? by Wumami: 5:12pm On Jul 30, 2009 |
Yes I remember this part: Borrowers gain, lenders lose. Reason is simple, the value of money has gone down. The opposite is deflation where the reverse would happen. A good example is when our parents' salaries was just N400.00, now you have graduates collecting N150,000.00. The actual value of the later and the former might just be same but check out the % increase. Imagine you took a loan of N5000.00 then, it would be much more easier to pay back now. Thats why inflation is factored in when checking real cost of funds. |
Politics / Re: What's Wrong With Our Tax System ? by Wumami: 1:55pm On May 12, 2009 |
@all There is definitely a tax system in Nigeria. Whether or not it works is another story that is has a lot do with what you do. If your company is incorporated, then you have no choice other than to file your returns to FIRS every year after which they would now compute and assess you based on your returns (CIT). I also know for sure that incorporated companies have no choice than to pay their employees' PAYE, remit VAT collected and WHT withheld from suppliers. Here is the snag, the tax authority would usually conduct tax audit regularly to confirm all returns, if there are shortfalls, they would issue a demand notice and you would have to pay. If you work with these companies, be sure that you salary is net of PAYE and other deductions as instituted by law. If you have investments in shares, your dividend for sure would come net of appropriate WHT. Your fixed deposit interests have also suffered the relevant taxes. Here is the snag, in conducting these tax audit. A major factor that I would consider as an individual is cost/ benefit. If the cost outway the benefit, then I would rather the audit is not carried out. I would think that FIRS has the same opinion, hence they would be inclined to going to bigger companies whose outstanding tax liability (if any) would be material and worth their while. Like rightly mentioned, as long as money keep changing hands without going through organised financial sector, or business springing up every minute without adequate registration, the issue of tax evasion would still be a problem to Nigeria. All in all, the question is why pay additional taxes if the amenities these taxes are suppossed to provide are not available, good roads, electricity, water at the minimum, Although I hear Lagosians are now paying taxes due to Gov Fasola's tax drive and initiative. Believe me, based on what is going on in Lagos at the moment, I would pay all my taxes. Why? I can see the results. |

Hello peeps, please help with the following: I have some space constraints, I want to place my inverter next to my gas cylinder just outside my apartment, do you think it is okay considering they are both explosives? How reliable are inverters? Anyone used it for a long time on board? How do you identify the good ones? What should I look out for? What are the pros and cons of your TV/ HT set, would you recommend it? I just bought this Samsung HT with product code HT TZ 212, only 2 of its 5 speakers are working. What can be the cause of this? What company would you recommend I take it to for a check? Thanks. |
