danie09: For the records, we (about 9 of us that I know) all got it IN OCTOBER. Btw: I know about someone who freshly apply after we arrived in Portugal, the person is still waiting for results, as we speak! Good luck with your application. 3 Likes |

queendoreez: Hey! If I were in your shoes, I would apply for both 1st Degree and (Integrated Masters or a Masters Degree). You may want to look for the meaning of Integrated Masters Degree here in Portugal. To the best of my knowledge, It is not a full masters degree, but certainly not an undergraduate degree either. I don't really know much about it... look it up and get more details. It could be a worthy option. Let me start by telling you that . PLEASE, PLEASE and PLEASE, be very SURE to have very good back-ups in terms of FUNDS that would last you for at least 1 year before you step out of Nigeria oo. or better, you have very good cash in-flow that would support your stay here. Even though, Portugal is one of the least expensive places to live (a relatively good/decent European life style), yet, it is getting expensive by the day because lots of Europeans and other nationals are falling in love with her major cites by the day, so things and house rents are getting "crazily" expensive. Further Education is great, and it gives you a chance to get good jobs. The Educational system here is quite rigorous, be sure you'd work seriously. As a matter of fact, I am in school right now, writing this reply because I need to study; but I have a take the time-out to address these matters - important life decisions for you. See me oo, because of the serious academic tasks here, I have been procrastinating writing a blog-post on studying in Portugal, especially for Nigerians on the ordeals I and many others faced during our time applying for admission and visas. Maybe somedays... I'll get to write it. A little good news is (if it's anything to go by), once you are done with your studies and you get a job, settling down here might be fairly easy and it was encouraged by the Mayor of Lisbon himself whilst welcoming International Students in the City Hall last November. To precisely answer your questions: 1. Apply to about 6 schools (Yes! Six!! You are the one desperate to further your studies abroad and You are the one with an HND (No hard feelings. Even me sef with B.Tech did the same). So the "lesser-in-weight you think your credentials might be, the more schools you have to apply to, in order to increase your chances, considerably. (You asked for the truth brother [abi Sister], there it is). 2. There is a huge cost implication. Most schools will ask for application fees per submission - ranging from 50 Euros to 200 Euros (Even though, I did not pay application fees for my school, during my time, but they have introduced it now). SO PLEASE BE AWARE 3. Like I tell most people who ask me about studying in Portugal GENERALLY, I tell them that google is our friend. She knows everything! Just know how to ask and ask. However, if you are really asking for specifics, then I would know that you have done your homework and you just need a few help, not the whole of my time. So, just so we're clear. I am not an agent, so I won't do the work for you sir/ma. But if you have done your research and feel hooked, I'd be more than happy to help if its within my reach. 4. That said, the best way to get information from each school is to email them. Send them an email and follow up with phone calls if you could. Whilst I was in Nigeria, I would exhaust my phone credit almost every day and turn to the office phone when I am desperate to get information. I am not saying you should do this, but do everything lawfully possible to get their attention. They are paid in their international Offices in these schools to answer our requests. 5. Lest I forget, the best time to apply to most universities in Portugal, and by extension, Europe is now!. So, start applying... 6. Sadeeq, calm down a bit, tell us about your school: Okay! I know about my school very well because I had offer in 2016 and I couldn't go, and couldn't differ. Actually, I applied to four (4) courses and I got interviewed for the 4 of them, I picked the one I liked the most then. But I couldn't go. Fast forward 2017, I applied again and I was given an offer. This time, I knew I had to go, and here I am. Morale is: Know when it is best for you and do everything in your power to see it through. 7. Yes! I remember, there are PostGraduate/Certificate Programs in my school too (1 year) and you should be good enough to use it to enter the Masters Course (Please, again, call/write the school to verify)... If you read through the thread, you will know my school. Ha ha!! Finally, if per-adventure my blog post comes out, you may not bother to read it, 'cos it would be a waste of your extra time, it would be virtually everything I have said here. Just that I would add some fancy pictures to make it a little bit live-lier. I may get periodic responses via email notifications for your replies here, so bear with me if I don't reply immediately. However, If you don't find me on that blue bird application @xurdeeq, then I am on Linkedin. Even you sef know that I have said (or written) enough. Lemme come and be going. I have to finish this Chapter on R Data Science Programming before earning the right to go and the see Black Panther tonight. Yes!! I have not watched it Beyond the strictness in my reply (yes, the truth has to be told without looking Uche Face) and the jokes btw, I wish you the very best in your pursuit, and God spare our lives in good health, I cannot wait to have more Nigerians join us here in Lisbon come September (or November last last sha... depending on how lucky you are with the Embassy (a talk for another day)) Best Regards. 7 Likes 1 Share |

Zionprincess: Same here too! School has resumed and Full Academic Activities have commenced. I thought I (and the 6 other people i know about, who also applied at the Embassy) are the only ones facing this delay issue. I called the embassy on Friday: Same News --- They are still waiting for Portugal to Respond. @ZionPrincess, when did you finally submit? Which school are you attending? |

Hello Everyone, Like I said, I would post updates on my Visa Application Process on this forum so that prospective applicants can learn from it. On the 4th of April, 2017, I went to the Embassy in Abuja with ALL my documents ready for submission and application as suggested my most seniors on this tread. Only for me to get there and for the Man who attended to me to tell me that I could only submit my University Certificates/Transcripts on that day and would be called once the verification of the credentials is complete (at the NUC). I appreciate all your comments. But for the purpose of those who would be applying this year, please note that the verification for certificates at NUC is still the first process to visa application. And for this stage of the application, I THINK SOMEONE CAN ACTUALLY DO THIS PART ON YOUR BEHALF. This is my personal opinion, as I was just given a form to fill for this process. The form contains the information of the Document Owner and the information of the person who is submitting these documents on his/her behalf. You can try it if Abuja is thousands of miles away. The person who collected my certificate actually said the verification process at NUC should take between 3 Weeks to 1 Month. It would be a month by next tomorrow, I am yet to hear from them. I called the embassy, and the response I got was that my documents have not returned from the NUC. Please house, does anyone know how to speed things up from NUC's end? The next process, once they get my documents verified at NUC is the application proper which involves the submission/presentation of the documents mentioned up-thread. Many thanks. 4 Likes 5 Shares |

Spot ON!!! Thanks very much. Everything is clear. I already sent my credentials to Abuja for stamping at the MOE and MFA. They are both ready. I should get every other documents ready before mid next week and be ready for Abuja by Thursday. Please shed more light on the "Study Leave Letter from place of work" part. Is this a MUST What if my work place didn't agree with me and I plan to resign? This is my only worry. Thanks for the insight and heads-up. Expecting your insightful reply (as usual). |

Dear UI1 Very Many Thanks. I am very grateful for your quick response. I just want to confirm your response and decide on the action to take. Please pardon my being inquisitive. Na money and time matter ooo. If I get you well, what you are saying is that I should ignore their "document verification" part and just go with ALL my Visa Application documents ready to submit it on my first visit? I would really like that if they can just accept it all at once: both for document verification and visa application and let me return to Lagos and wait (that waiting period though ! ). Please do you know anyone who has done it (submission of all documents both for verification and visa application) on one go, like this before? Once again, many thanks for your time. I would love to hear from you and may others soon and plan to share my experiences too as events unfold. Y'all have a nice day ahead... |

gowaga68: Hello to everyone in this forum. I am sure the has been silence here for a while. I hope I would be able to bring it back to life with my question because I need a lot of contribution from you guys. I am really counting on you all. I got admission MSc. into NOVA IMS. And my resumption is slated for September 2017. I immediately contacted the Portugal Embassy, Abuja and this was their reply: Good morning, With reference to your email below, the Consular Section informs that it will first verify your certificate/s. Therefore, you have to stamp the photocopy of the certificate/s and transcript/s at the Federal Ministry of Education before bringing them to the Embassy. Depending on the level of education, the verification process has cost implication. If the result of the verification is positive, you will be contacted to come to apply for the visa with the following documents: - a valid passport, - copy of data page of the passport and any other page with a visa or stamp, - very clearly completed application form, - 2 recent coloured passport photos, - copy of school certificates stamped by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the issuing country, - Police Character certificate stamped by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the issuing country, - letter of acceptance from the school in Portugal, - evidence of accommodation in Portugal, - proof of financial capability if you are not on scholarship. The Police Character Certificate will be translated and authenticated by this Consular Section at the cost of 55 Euros (paid in Naira, according to the exchange rate for the month). You must apply in person. Consular Section is open to the public on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9.30a.m. and 12.30p.m. except on Portuguese and Nigerian National holidays. Please note that if you will require your certificate/s legalised by this Consular Section, the fee is 15 Euros per document (paid in Naira, according to the exchange rate for the month). Visas are granted or denied by Portugal and this visa has a long processing period, so the Embassy does not keep the passport. When the reply is received from Portugal, the Embassy contacts the applicant. Regards, Embassy of Portugal Almost everything is clear. However, I need clarification from those who have gone through this process. I am based in lagos and my schedule is very tight. For those who have gone through this Student Visa Application Process (especially recently) please share your experiences/advise: 1. How long does this Verification of Certificate/Transcripts By the Embassy take? 2. From whom are they verifying? 3. Is there a way to speed things up (if verification is with my school)? 4. As I am in Lagos, can I send someone to submit the Credentials for me (proxy submission)? What would I need, in addition, to give to the person? 5. Whats the specs for the Passport photo collected at the embassy? 6. I currently do not have accommodation in Portugal, I will only get it when my visa is ready and pay my remaining school fees. This would even probably mean when I get to Portugal. How do I make case for this during Visa Application? 7. For the proof of financial capability, I am not sponsoring myself. Whoever my sponsor is, what is the minimum amount that should be in the Person's Account? Remaining school fees is about 4000 EUROs. Does Block Account apply here? 8. After verification and submission of Visa Application, how long does it take to hear from the embassy? These and many more are my questions. Please help out in answering them. 2 Likes 1 Share |
