ND does not equate Nigeria. The earlier we seek other avenues, the better. Let everyone control their resources and let's see who can manage theirs better. Somehow, I am also from ND (from an oil-producing community in Abia state), but I do not give a damn about the oil. This is because with a PhD in Biotechnology (in view), the sky is my limit, even in Nigeria. I know what to do with my skills. |
Politics / Re: Two Lies As Biafra Turns 40 9/7/2007 by Xris74: 8:52pm On Aug 07, 2007 |
Oil should be disregarded because it has brought Nigeria more evil than good. It has made some of us lazy- the north and the NDs for instance. It did bring about the unbridled corruption we currently experience It has set communities against one another (Ijaw/ Itshekiri/ Urhobo; Eleme/ Okrika/; Ogoni/ Eleme, etc) It has caused thousands of deaths due to thefts and subsequent explosions (these lives are worth more than 4 billions) We have other avenues we can explore. Hundreds of other resources abound everywhere in the country. When oil is disregarded, I will be willing to come back home and contribute my skills on the use of unknown (by Naija standard) renewable (emphasis on renewable) bioresources to create wealth. |

Regretably, Ono is a lost cause, He is beyond redemption. He lives, sleeps and dreams oil. Hence, his head became blocked with the same resource. |

Omg, Now, this Ono guy is a confirmed ignoramus. Hello Nairaland users, just type in uptenth (time) in google http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=uptenth+time&btnG=Search and see how the word is used. Uptenth is one of the words beyond Ono's shallow comprehension. I am aware there is a word as umpteenth (time), but as a big boy in English Language and Ono's English teacher (lol), I am at liberty to decide which between the two words to use. The English language is evolving, such that the latest edition of the Webstar dictionary (best in the world, IMHO) has new English vocabularies. Pity, Ono knows nothing order than oil. In any case, Ono, there is a difference between spelling errors and outright ignorance. And, the worst is failure to accept your mistakes when corrected. It is only a fool who does not know that he does not know |
Politics / Re: Olokola LNG And The Niger Delta Question by Xris74: 5:36pm On Aug 07, 2007 |
The last time I checked, oil is a non-renewable resource. So, the oil finishes some time; and then, what next? |
Politics / Re: Two Lies As Biafra Turns 40 9/7/2007 by Xris74: 5:18pm On Aug 07, 2007 |
Ono is indeed a lost cause. See how he delves totally off the point? You dare attempt to teach me English language when I am in the know that you do not know the language? As confused as the ND militants You are a disgrace to the university you attended (if at all you did). Keep arguing like an idiot. It is people like you who say The woman know me instead of The woman knows me. For the uptenth time, let me drum it into your oil-blocked head that in the context of your phrase: Why don't you ask those who knows , ''Knows'' is WRONG, and ''know'' is the correct word, because you have the plural Those in your phrase. Now take that to your professors and tell them I said so. Go through the sites you provided and see if you find where Those (plural) and knows (singular) are used in the same sentence or phrase. Be humble enough to admit your failure, otherwise I have no business discussing with you any longer. I did not get an A1 in English for nothing. You hear? |
Politics / Re: Two Lies As Biafra Turns 40 9/7/2007 by Xris74: 3:17pm On Aug 07, 2007 |
OMG! What a pig-headed fool. Those (plural) go with know (plural) Thus, your phrase should have read ''why don't you ask those who know? and not ''why don't you ask those who knows? EMPHASIS ON KNOW This is the elementary grammar that you have failed to understand; that Babyosisi corrected you on. A very simple English grammar I learnt in kindergarten. ITK will kill so many ignoramuses here. Apparently, commonsense is not as common as the oil you so talk about |

Ono, Go ahead and blow up the pipelines all you care. Who gives damn about your oil, and gas and Nembe or brass or Olokola? I personally have not gained a dime from Nigeria's oil, inspite of the fact that my state of Abia is oil-producing. Suit yourself, Mr, but you can only blow the oil in your ND, not in Abia, Imo or the huge reserves (yet untouched) that have been discovered in Anambra and Enugu. http://www.rmrdc.gov.ng/states/Anambra.htm http://www.rmrdc.gov.ng/states/Enugu.htm Everday oil, oil, oil. Yet your poverty is so rife it can almost be touched with the hand. |

If you publish quality research in good international journals, you get noticed easily. What will many Nigerian universities publish? Effect of fertilizer on corn growth in Aba, Benin, Abeokuta etc? (lol) published at the journal of Oshodi science? Nigerian research (say in the field of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth sciences, Biotechnology, Medicine etc, is way off the mark. Type in a notable Nigerian prof (living and working in Nigeria at the moment) in any of the academic search engines and see what you find for many of them. Shame. |
Politics / Re: Olokola LNG And The Niger Delta Question by Xris74: 6:25am On Aug 07, 2007 |
Ono Yours is satisfaction in half-measures. For every one ND like you posted up there, there are 100 Igbos and Yorubas doing their thing even outside Nigeria. In the matter of education and personal (not oil-dependent) achievemennts, you can bluff for the North and the disparate sub-tribes of the N Delta not to the Igbo and Yoruba. If oil is so important to you, it is not to me and millions of Igbos and Yorubas who have developed themselves educationally and professionally(I am a proud member of these self-developed individuals) by means other than oil, that accursed resource that has reduced Nigeria, and the so-called owners (like you) to a beggarly sitiation. Take a look at the JAMB statistics, for a start, then we can talk of those outside of Nigeria. Ok? |

Education / Re: Nigerian Universities Are very Poorly Rated In Africa by Xris74: 10:48pm On Aug 06, 2007 |
University ratings are made annually. Thus, a university that rates 1 this year may rate 2 next year. These ratings are based on number of publications from researchers in each university; quality of the research; number of PhD graduates churned out per year; jobs obtained by PhD graduates from these universities, which is an indication of the quality of the PhD degree obtained; presence in the ww web (adverstise your university to the world) and other considerations. How many Naija unis have functional and standard websites? So you see why Nigeria does poorly consistently: Lack of funding by the government. This completely explains why big companies in Nigeria prefer foreign universities-trained Nigerians than those trained in Nigerian universities. |

Politics / Gold In Kaduna Can Find A Place In The ''resource Control'' Saga by Xris74: 5:48pm On Aug 06, 2007 |
Govt, Kaduna to exploit gold minerals next year The Federal Government has declared its intention to commence the exploration and exportation of gold and other mineral resources in the next 12 months. Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Alhaji Sharafa Tunji Ishola said in Kaduna during a courtesy call on the Kaduna State Governor Mohammed Namadi Sambo, that the administration of President Umaru Musa Ya'Adua had declared the next one year for the exploration and exporting of the commodities. He told the governor that he was in the state to seek cooperation of the state government and the communities in order to bring the Federal Government's intentions to reality. Ishola said: "In the next one year, we shall be a partner to Kaduna in the exploration and exporting of the gold mineral resources. The President is placing much emphasis on community participation in the exploration of our mineral resources. The essence of our visit is to solicit your active support and cooperation of the people." Governor Sambo said he was anxious to partner with the Federal Government through the ministry, both financially and morally. Kaduna was discovered to have a large deposit of gold minerals during the tenure of Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili as Minister last year. Politics / Thief (sorry Chief) Kalu's Deft Political Moves by Xris74: 10:26am On Aug 06, 2007 |
Even in prison custody, former thieving governor of Abia state Orji Kalu is building personal political bridges across the Benue (this time not Niger). A national newspaper had reported earlier that erstwhile Jigawa state gov Turaki, could not leave the prison after bail was granted because the traditional ruler from his state (we hear Turaki upgraded the said ruler to a first-class monarch shortly before the end of his tenure) who had agreed to surety for him reneged following threats from the current gov of Jigawa, Sule Lamido. When Orji was leaving the prison he promised to ensure that Turaki is bailed ASAP by providing a traditional ruler that will guaranty for him. A few days afterwards, a certain traditional ruler who bestrides one amongst the hundreds of autonomous communities Kalu created in Abia state stood surety for Turaki. Where did the said trad ruler get 100 million bail money from? http://odili.net/news/source/2007/aug/4/556.html This move by Kalu, together with the fact that he went almost right from prison custody to ASO ROCK ''to confer'' with Yaradua, makes me wonder how politically deft Kalu is. What do you make of these moves, coming from a supposed treasury looter. Is Kalu already baking a political cake for the future? |

Politics / Assets: Kingibe, Wives Worth N766 Million by Xris74: 8:38pm On Aug 05, 2007 |
Assets: Kingibe, wives worth N766 million BY The Nation DATE : Sunday, 05 August 2007 Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Alhaji Babagana Kingibe, is currently worth N395.4million. His two wives have properties worth N371 million, and his son, Abdulkadir, over N35 million. According to the assets declaration submitted last month, as contained in Form CCBI, the former foreign Affairs Minister’s highest investments are in buildings, shares, furniture and equipment. Kingibe who has no foreign accounts, according to the declaration, maintains only an account with the United Bank for Africa (UBA), where he has N81, 207. His 7,981,394 units of shares in companies not mentioned in the declaration valued at N27.9 million are being managed by EUROBANC Savings and Loans (Kano) and DUNESIDE Ltd (Abuja). The declaration of assets is a constitutional requirement expected to be fulfilled by public officers on assumption of office. President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and some governors declared their assets and made it public earlier, which had been commended. Yar’Adua declared assets worth over N856million and his wife N19million. Kogi State governor Ibrahim Idris declared N900million assets, while Ogun State governor Gbenga Daniel had N4.5billion assets and wife N157.7million. The declaration that was received by the officers of the Code of Conduct Bureau on the 17 thof last month shows that Kingibe has five buildings valued at N290m. The buildings are located in Maiduguri, Borno State and Abuja. The SGF also has five undeveloped plots in Maiduguri and Jos, Plateau State, valued at N11m. The buildings that were acquired through "savings and gifts in kind" included a one-storey building with a guest house located at 71, Usuma Street, Maitama, Abuja, valued at N195m. It was acquired between 1991 and 1993. Another bungalow plus Guest House and office, located at 14, Ashaka Street, Danboa Road, GRA, Maiduguri, worths N45m, while the bungalow at Block 14, Bulunkuttu Layout, Airport Road in the Borno State Capital value at N15m. The five plots are all in Maiduguri except one in Jos, behind Adams Laboratory Rayfield, which is worth N4m. Kingibe has six functioning vehicles of various classes, three of which were "campaign gifts." The campaign gifts were given to him in 1992, 1993 and 2007. he received in 2007 a Pontiac Trans 1994 Model valued at N1m, while that of 1993, a Nissan Pathfinder Model 1992 was valued at N700,000. The SGF bought in auction a Land Rover Discovery Model 1991 in 2003, at N500,000 and a Mercedez Ben 280 1990 Model in 1992, valued at N600,000. While his son, Abdulkadir Kingibe, only has a bungalow at 26A, Bulunkuttu Close, Kaduna, valued at N35m, Kingibe’s two wives have properties worth N371 million. These properties that exclude automobiles include four houses, one lock up shop and two plots, located in Abuja, Maiduguri and Kaduna. They included a story house at Kunene Close, Maitama, Abuja acquired in 1997, and with a current value of N150m. Besides, a storey building with Guest House, located at 9B, Lubumbashi Street , Ibrahim Abacha Estate, Wuse Zone IV, Abuja is valued at N70m. In 1971, one of the spouses acquired a store House at 2, Ali Akilu Road, Kaduna , according to the declaration. The store has a current value of N50m. Besides the lock up shop at Wuse Market, Abuja acquired in 2006, one of the two spouses has a plot of 3200sqm at 10, Ogbadu Road, Kaduna , acquired in 2006. The plot has a current value of N10million. President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, was the first to declare his assets shortly after his swearing-in. He had done same in 1999 when he became the governor of Kastina State. Curiously most public officers, including governors seem not at home with the idea. They prefer secret declaration which political observers say could encourage anticipatory declaration. The Vice President, Goodluck Jonathan has been having a running battle with various groups, particularly the Action Congress, over his refusal to make his assets declaration public. http://www.thetimesofnigeria.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2440&PHPSESSID=26bfefdbc78a525ded64fc063e07063c |
