get your facts right, people are getting reinfected bro, those ones saying a person that has recovered can't contract it again are judging with ebola

herd immunity will not work in a country like ours, like a guy said above, our health systen is too weak to handle such because an increase in the number of patients will crumble our hospitals and we don't even have the needed equipments and maybe test kits.

lockdown is not to stop the spread but to make it reduce and if the 2 weeks lockdown is rightly used, then we can quickly trace the affected people and by the time the 2 weeks lapses, we would have reduced the number of corona virus sufferers undetected.

i think this is the best bet for us as a country, some people feed from hand to mouth in other countries too, not only in nigeria and it is better to starve for days than to die, remember, we are not doing them a favour by staying at home because if we don't stay at home and things get worse, our leaders will ensure the safety of themselves and their kids one way or the other, it is the masses that will end up dying and starving out of fear to go out and hustle.
many countries have been staying at home for more than a month and yet there is still no end in sight for them.

Op, I clicked on this because you were complaining it should be on FP.

Someone up there have already mesmerized your point yet you keep saying thing without reason.

Your solution is to let those without strong immune system die.

In Nigeria? Where millions don't have portable drinking water.

Your solution is deeply flawed and can be called genocide.

Honestly, I think mods should delete the thread.
I said only the vulnerable should be asked to stay at home and those who choose to.

I never suggested letting them die

No one is saying it would stop spreading. If people sit at home, in 14 days, many people affected would develop symptoms and can be isolated and treated if there is capacity for that. From the economic standpoint, shutting for more than a month would run us aground.

Just listen to the authorities and we'll try to beat this together.
Many countries have been sitting at home for more than 2 weeks now but it's still spreading so it's in Nigeria it will work

UK wanted to try herd immunity until they discovered that people in China who were cured got reinfected, which is more deadly.

Which more deadly

As the Mail and Sun articles say, based on local reports, the patients who tested positive twice in Wuhan showed no symptoms the second time and none apparently passed the disease to others.

The same was true of a group of patients who tested positive twice in Guangdong province. The Sun quotes a doctor involved in the research saying  the results were in the “weak positive” range, suggesting that the virus may no longer have been active. He also added that there may have been problems with sampling.

grin we

While I will applaud you for offering a suggestion, which shows you're a thinking man.

Your suggestion is what Britain (UK) were about to instill during the begining stage of the siege, sadly if it's done that way; two things will happen.
1. The health sector will collapse, due to the influx of patients which will surpass the available bed spaces. And I'm sure you won't want to see people falling on the street, or dead bodies on the road. The UK speculated over 1 million deaths if they don't put up a mitigation process. Now you can juxtapose what that number will mean for Nigeria with a population way above UK and a lingering health sector.

2. Secondly, It has not yet been proven that people who have recovered from COVID19 have immunity to the virus. Infact, in China there are cases of people getting reinfected. So if this true, then no one actually has an immunity to this. Thus, this will lead to a multiplier effect or what you can call "the second wave" where people get reinfected en masse. Im sure you have elderly ones, you have grandma's. You have friends with underlying conditions like asthma, Cancer, lungs infection Diabetes, High blood pressure. If you do, then you'd know this your suggestion will be an apathetic judgement.
It can work in a system like North Korea or China, where the govt sees the masses as tools.

I wish the world well and I'll keep praying, USA projects over 100,000 deaths. I pray God intervenes because at the moment the world seems clueless.
Don't you think UK and USA only slowed down the actual outcome? You can't tell yet.

It's been proven you get immune to the virus. The question that can't be answered is if it's forever or a long or short period of time.

Cases of reinfection are very rare

for the cases of reinfection in China;

As the Mail and Sun articles say, based on local reports, the patients who tested positive twice in Wuhan showed no symptoms the second time and none apparently passed the disease to others.

i don't think lock down is about stopping the spread, lockdown is about slowing down the spread because the lower the cases we have the better we can manage and reduce mortality rate. Increase the cases of coronavirus in Nigeria to say 10,000 over night (and this will happen if people continue to disregard lockdown) and watch the numbers of people that will die. Believe it will be very difficult for our economy to recover if we suddenly lost a considerable number of people
self medication isn't a new thing to Nigerians, we can result to self-help at home. for Covid-19, the only difference between the hospitals and home is just ventilators and we still lack them even in the hospitals

We all know the government can not afford to feed Nigerians even for one month.

I think Nationwide anarchy poses a greater danger compared to overwhelming our hospitals.

Honestly, Nigeria's governments are just being too optimistic. Coronavirus won't stop spreading in just 2 weeks. Many advanced countries have being battling this virus for months and there is no end in sight yet.

Do Nigeria's governments think that the spread of the coronavirus virus will be stopped after just 2 weeks stay at home? They only succeeded in slowing the spread and not eliminating the inevitable.

After the two weeks stay at home and the virus hasn't been curtained, will they extend it for another 2 weeks?

Will the hungry daily income earners agree to stay at home for another two weeks and go hungry with his family?
Even those that have money, will they be able to see food to buy after states have been cut away from the food supply chain?

I created a thread suggesting how the government should handle this coronavirus but it never made frontpage. While I have been seeing far less important topics making frontpage

Here is a link to the thread, my suggestion is up for debate

Politics / COVID-19: What The Government Should Do; A Nairalander's Opinion. by XXLDICK(m): 11:49am On Mar 31, 2020
This is my suggestion on how this Corona virus issue should be handled.

Honestly, I don't think the way the government has chosen to handle this pandemic outbreak is right for a third world country like Nigeria.

Using Lagos as a case study, commercial vehicles are prohibited from plying the roads but hospitals and people selling foodstuffs are allowed to operate. How can an average foodstuff seller be able to convey herself and goods to and fro the market as she doesn't own a private car? My sister is a nurse, but she's at home because she doesn't own a car either. This issue has rendered many hospitals incapacitated as most nurses are underpaid hence can't afford a car. Considering this is the period we need the hospitals most...

Many states have closed their borders completely. Thereby cutting supply of food between states especially from North to South.

The majority of Nigerians eat from hand to mouth. Nigerians give birth to many children and they depend on their daily income to feed their large families. Would they agree to stay at home after they and their children have nothing to eat?

Crude oil which Nigeria depends almost solely on has taken a nose-dive in value thereby truncating our economy and we have decided to destroy whatever is left of our economy by shutting it down completely.

Why should Nigeria copy first world countries that could afford to pay and feed their citizens to stay indoors when Nigeria can't afford same?

I don't need to talk about the adverse effects we are likely to face by these decisions such as; robbery, anarchy, hunger, bad economy... Remember the poor are the majority in Nigeria. I don't want to talk about not having the facilities to test enough people which as a result poor people are not being tested and it's effects.

My suggestion;

Let the government lift every ban on people operating their businesses and movement.

Why?

The Covid-19 has no cure, it's a war of life and death between your immune system and the virus. The fastest way to get done with a pandemic like this is herd immunity.

It's been proven that once you contract the virus and you recover, you'll become immune to it. When the number of immune people increase, they will shield the people that are not immune to it. That's what herd immunity is all about.

Read about herd immunity to understand me better.

Self isolation should be optional and not imposed. Old people and those who have underlying health issues which are likely to be vulnerable to the virus leading to fatality should be advised to self quarantine. It shouldn't be imposed on people like us who are actually more scared of hunger than the virus.

If my suggestion be taken, there'll be less stress on the economy and the virus won't exceed two months. In my opinion, with the restrictions, the virus spread will be slower and can last up to six months.

Caveat;
I am not a medical practitioner, I am just Naijason Ezeiru, a rational thinker and I always think outside the box. This is just my opinion and it's open to debate, criticism or abuses. Whichever one is welcome.

I'm I the only one that thinks this Corona virus is overhyped

it's not even half as dangerous as the media potrays it to be.

Despite it being a global epidemic, and being in almost every country it's still on a total of about 10,000 fatalities. Mtcheew.

I don't care if I get infected. I'll just be sick for just about a week or 2 and I'll most likely be immune to it for life or prolly a long period of time. after all, I'm young and very healthy with zero underlying health issue.

Nigeria should be more concerned about it's economy that is about to take a massive nose-dive because I'm sure hunger and depression will kill more people than the Corona virus that won't spread too freely in hot weather.

Funny country. You included Austria and Sweden but skipped some countries that have higher cases such as; Switzerland, Denmark, Norway...

Stupid FG. you banned schooling but didn't ban religious gathering. May Corona virus visit Aso rock and be a hero. One old man needs to go and meet many of his age mates.
