Politics / Osun Workers Give Aregbesola 14 Days Ultimatum As His First Son Gets Arrested by yeahh(m): 8:31am On May 13, 2015
1 0
OSUN State workers have given Governor Rauf Aregbesola 14 days to pay their outstanding six month salary arrears of face a full blown strike in what has been a difficult 24 hours for the governor whose son was arrested in Lagos for attempted money laundering.
Civil servants in Osun State have not been paid for six months now, forcing the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) to issue the governor with an ultimatum. After a meeting between the unions and the government failed to resolve the matter, Governor Aregbesola has been given two weeks to pay the outstanding arrears of face full strike action.
This latest development comes at the same time that Governor Aregbesola's son Kabiru was arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos with N178m ($912,820) in cash stocked in his luggage. According to airport sources, Kabiru Aregbesola was on his way to the United Arab Emirates when he was apprehended after an airport scan revealed the money.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that upon being arrested, Kabiru is said to have called his father who rushed down to Lagos and requested to see the immigration officers that arrested his son. According to the eyewitnesses, Governor Aregbesola then held a meeting with the officials in a senior officer's office, where the matter was resolved.
Although that issue might have been resolved, Governor Aregbesola still faces the threat of a full blown strike as his government is one of those incapable of clearing the backlog of salary arrears due to a reduction of the federal allocation. According to labour sources, a meeting held yesterday between representatives of the Osun State government and a joint negotiating council, representing the workers, was inconclusive and fruitless

Kaduna senator-elect Shehu Sani wants Buhari to scrap Niger Delta amnesty programme
Wednesday, 06 May 2015 09:04
KADUNA Central senator-elect and civil rights activist Comrade Shehu Sani has urged president-elect General Muhammadu Buhari to scrap the Niger Delta amnesty programme and probe the way money spent on the project was used.
In 2009, former President Umaru Yar'Adua entered into an agreement with Niger Delta militants under which they would lay down their arms in exchange for an amnesty. Under the terms of the deal, they were to be trained both at home and abroad and given skills such as under-water welding and other marine-related jobs.
Upon assuming office in 2010, President Goodluck Jonathan continued with the programme and this coupled with the fact that he is from the Niger Delta has led to an abatement in militancy. However, with the election of General Buhari as president, there are fears that the programme may in jeopardy and the militants may return to the creeks to take up arms again.
According to Comrade Sani the amnesty programme is a sham and should be discontinued by the Buhari administration. He noted that the programme should have been a temporary gesture and not a permanent one as it is now, pointing out that some individuals have turned it into a conduit pipe to drain the nation’s wealth.
Comrade Sani also accused the Jonathan administration of skewing development to the south-south alone instead spreading it to the north and southwest regions, He urged General Buhari to avoid a repeat of the mistakes made by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government and called on Nigerians to support the administration to rebuild Nigeria and revamp her economy.
In addition, Comrade Sani also said that prospecting for oil in the northern part of the country as proposed by General Buhari may not be feasible. He said this was because most northern leaders have oil blocs in the Niger Delta region and would not encourage oil exploration in the Lake Chad Basin for the fear that they may lose their blocs in the Niger Delta.
Comrade Sani said: “We must also tell ourselves the truth, our political elites in northern Nigeria were never interested in exploring crude oil in Lake Chad Basin and other parts of northern Nigeria. Their major point of interest is how to acquire oil blocs in Niger Delta and use the wealth that is acquired for the betterment of themselves and their immediate families.
“We must also tell ourselves the truth that the northern political establishment is as guilty as President Jonathan's administration in terms of the neglect of northern Nigeria. We had the opportunity in the past to use the instrument of power to develop the region, to empower our people and educate our people but we wasted it at that very time."
According to Comrade Sani, over the last three to four decades northern Nigeria has been led by a species of rent seeking, self-seeking, time-serving political elites whose pre-occupation is about retention of power and also serving themselves. Most of the oil blocks in the Niger Delta are owned by northerners.

Stay safe boys and girls...

Nigerian Politicians want to win......

I guess we will see an end to political violence in Nigeria....when we realize that politics is not about win or lose...but it is a process.

I pray for the day....when we will use secondary school students as electoral workers. And the only policemen and soldiers at the voting center will be there to vote....not for security.

Quit the dream bro
