I have always had my reservations for this trend which is fast gaining popularity.

Firstly, the assertion of improvement in water run off does not hold water. A 45 degree slope is enough evacuate any amount of precipitation.

The idea may have started from people copying western designs without configuring them to our climate.
The high roof creates space for the attic which "oyibo" people also use as living spaces. But in our clime, you would fry to death because of the heat up there.

Some have adduced that it makes the house cooler. This is another misconception because simple physics should tell them that the larger surface area of roofing tiles or aluminium exposed to the sun increases the convection of heat into the living spaces.

More worrisome is the addition of cornices or parapet which prevents the roof from breathing thereby trapping tremendous heat in the attic and by extension the living spaces below.

Visiting old institutions built during the colonial era, you will marvel at how passive those design were and are liveable even without artificial cooling e.g UI main library, UCH main structures, ABH.

In a nut shell, increasing floor to ceiling height with clerestory Windows is more tropical oriented than the miss-fit we are discussing.

My last experience with the thieving network:

I got this text from MTN ''You are a member of VIP class service (Subscription:N100/day) To opt out, Text STOP to 38427"
You know my biggest mistake? I didn't text "stop" to 38427. That was how I was enrolled automatically
Few days later, I realized they've been tampering with my airtime on a daily basis.

I recharged #400 checked my balance and met #300 I called customer care immediately to pour in my anger:

After 30 minutes a lady picked

Agent: Yello this is mtn what's your complaint?
Me: I recharged few minutes ago and #100 was deducted without any notification to that effect. What's going on?
Agent: Okay sir, let me check your account on our system

.....After waiting for like 10minutes, she dropped the call...

I called the second time

Agent : Yello this is mtn what's your complaint?
Me: I narrated my story again
Agent: Give me few minutes sir

....After 5 minutes she came back saying she cant access my accounts now and i would have to call back. Then I snapped...

Me : Have you checked your fraudulent promo you guys enrolled me in unknown to me? with the number 38427
Agent : Oh, we are sorry sir, that seems to be the problem. We apologize for any inconvenience that might have caused you.
Me : Remove my number from the promo now and stop enrolling people to services they didn't request for
Agent : You have been removed sir. Check you phone for the sms. Thank you for using mtn
Me: Thank you for stealing my money mf (In my mind)

I agree with the op on all her points except for geology......geology is a better paying course if you don't look at it from the "I want to work in an oil company" perspective. The op's statement on geology is only made valid because of our youths crave oil company jobs..........
