Politics / Minister Threatens To Arrest Rapper, Gives Reason by yepapa0005: 7:54am On Mar 29, 2019
Ugandan child rapper, Patrick Ssenyonjo popularly known by the stage name Fresh kid has been asked to stop doing music or get arrested.
According to BBC, Uganda’s Minister of Youth Affairs, Florence Nakiwala, has made it clear that the seven-year-old should quit rapping and go to school full time, or face the consequence of being taken to a juvenile prison.

Her warning came after allegations that Fresh kid was not attending school and could perform late at night while his age mates were studying, a move the Youth minister describes as child labour.

“The constitution clearly states that no one under the age of 18 is allowed to work therefore Fresh kid should not be working rather be in school. Anyone found aiding his music career will have to face the law as well,” she said.

Francis Kamoga, Fresh kid’s manager however refuted the claims stating that the seven-year-old was indeed attending school.

Speaking to BBC, Kamoga said Fresh kid only performs over the weekend and does not get paid for it therefore is not considered to be working.

“I discovered him in a rural village miming some songs, brought him to the city and started paying his school fees,” Francis explained.

Politics / Akpabio: I Was Called Killer Herdsman By Men Of God After I Dumped PDP For APC by yepapa0005: 9:49pm On Mar 28, 2019
The Senator representing Akwa Ibom north-west, Godswill Akpabio, has revealed that some clergymen in Akwa Ibom State called him a herdsman after he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Akpabio dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in August 2018, to join the ruling party.

In an article titled ‘The Lies and Liars of the Election’, the former Governor of the state revealed how the men of God turned against him following the decision.

“I am happy that God is not like some of His priests.

“Ever since I decamped to APC, they have been praying against me and they have joined in peddling the lies about me. Very well known Church prelates and Bishops that dined with me for 8 years while I was governor, despite my benevolence to them and their families joined the fray calling me killer herdsman for joining APC.

“But some of these men of God were in this same Country in 2012 when the farmers/herdsmen clashes claimed the lives of over 1000 people in the Benue/Plateau/Mambilla axis. At that time, a Christian was the President but was not accused of being a killer of Christians. The farmers/herdsmen clashes predate Nigeria’s Independence.

“The clashes have occurred under various leadership. Yet the “men of God” have been unconscionable in accusing the current President of masterminding genocide against Christians because he is a Muslim. I am happy that God does not condemn a man based on one man’s testimony, but He sees the heart and judges our motives and intentions. Whether one is a Christian or Muslim, we all worship the same God WHO will at the appointed time judge us from our deeds in words and actions,” Akpabio wrote.

The case of Sen Ibrahim and eight others were adjourned until April 8, for further mention.

Those granted bail along with Sen. Ibrahim (PDP-Kwara South) were Soliu Abdulazeez, Adigun Taofeeq, Wasiu Toheed, Garuba Mustapha, Kubura Wahab, Magaji Bashiru, Fatai Jamiu and Sherif Adisa all from Ojoku town in Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara.

Chief Magistrate Jubril Salihu granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

He said that during the attack, several gunshots were fired at the campaign team, resulting into killing of one Samuel Abidemi Adeosun, while several other people sustained injuries.

“Several vehicles in the campaign team were also damaged,” he said.

Ajibola said that police investigation led to the arrest of Sen. Rafiu Ibrahim, the PDP Senatorial candidate, who is an indigene of the community and suspected to have incited the said attack on his political opponent.

“Further investigation also led to the arrest of one Kubura Wahab, PDP Women leader in Ojoku, who allegedly harboured three of the accused persons, who participated in the attack

“Another discreet investigation also led to the arrest of the remaining four accused persons with suspected gunshot injuries believed to have been sustained at the scene of the crime,” he said.

Ajibola said that the offences contravened provisions of Sections 97, 114, 327 and 247 of Penal Code.

He said that investigation is still ongoing towards arresting other suspects still at large.

In his bail application, Mr R. Gold, counsel to Sen. Ibrahim and eight other accused persons, said there was no concrete evidence that showed that the accused persons were guilty as charged.

Gold said that the first accused, Sen. Ibrahim, was not at the scene of the crime and had not been found guilty in any way, while the third to ninth accused persons were arrested in the house of the second accused without any proof.
