The Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has promised that if elected in the 2023 elections, he will support legislative measures transferring more power to other tiers of government.

Atiku made the pledge at an interactive session with members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors in Lagos on Wednesday. Correcting the misinterpretations of his comments on restructuring at a parley with the Lagos Business School Alumni Association, the former vice president said, “It is rather unfortunate that a section of the media reported my remarks at an event yesterday (Tuesday) which casts doubts on my readiness to implement my restructuring agenda.

“Let me therefore take advantage of today’s gathering of Nigerian media gatekeepers to state unequivocally that my restructuring agenda is intact and will be implemented from my first day in office.”

“Already, I have received a report from a team of constitutional law experts that I assembled to look into our constitution and highlight areas where there are items that can be moved to the concurrent and residual lists of the constitution.

“Let me assure you that if I am elected president next year, I will begin working on the implementation of that report on my very first day in office.”

Atiku, while fielding questions from the editors, said his government would work in sync with the private sector to fill the infrastructural gaps in the country.

Appointment of 17 Northerners as heads of security agencies lopsided – Atiku

Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, has criticised the appointment of heads of security agencies by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

The PDP presidential candidate described the appointment of 17 Northerners as heads of various security agencies as lopsided.

Atiku stated this while speaking at an interactive session with members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors in Lagos on Wednesday.


He said, “PDP will form a government of national unity. We will bring members of the opposition who would have lost and then, of course, we will move on from there. This is when only the ways to unify this country and we will now begin to move.

“Today, we have 17 heads of various security agencies. All of them come from the North; I will not do that. I will make sure that every geopolitical zone is represented in these security outfits. This is also another way you can unify this country and give every part of this country a sense of belonging.


“By the time you double the strength of the Nigeria Police Force, maybe you will be talking about 700,000 or so. You will have reduced unemployment. So, we will extend that operation to the armed forces. By the time you finish doing that, you will find that you would have taken more than one million people out of the unemployment market.”

Meanwhile, Atiku has expressed his intention to continue with the economic policies the PDP embarked on between 1999 and 2007.


According to him, PDP economic policies aimed at liberalising the economy and promoting the private sector to create jobs and wealth in simple, straightforward terms.

“Liberalising the economy is broad. Empowering the private sector is broad, and of course, continues with the privatisation of our public enterprises. In other words, (we will create) a more private sector-driven economy,” he said

Many Jos residents, majorly youths, who are supporters of the opposition PDP in their numbers, on Wednesday, trooped to the Rwang Pam stadium, venue of the APC campaign flag-off to engage in cleansing exercise.

Their action came barely 24 hours after the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential flagged off its presidential campaign in the Plateau capital.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that several of the support groups of the PDP who were among the youths, said their action was to show their commitment to voting out the APC in Plateau, in the next political dispensation.

Kamru Sani, the Director General, Atiku Motivational Movement, who made this known, said the action was meant to sweep out what the APC brought to the state.

Sani stated that Plateau is a stronghold of the PDP, and is set to return to its winning ways.

“We are here to sweep out all they brought here, as PDP is for Plateau and Nigeria”.

“The party is set to be on winning ways again, as it has shown that it is the true party for the state.

“The party will bring relief to the sufferings that citizens of the state and Nigeria have had to endure in the last seven years,” he said.

Also speaking, Mohammed Hassan, national coordinator, PDP youth Amendment Movement, said the movement would protect the future of the youths in Nigeria.

Former Cross River state governor, Sen. Liyel Imoke has asserted that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has put Nigeria in the intensive Care Unit, ICU, since they took over the saddle of leadership in 2015.

Sen. Imoke who made the assertion on Monday in Calabar , during the inauguration of Atiku/Okowa 2023 Presidential Campaign Council said Nigeria was on life support adding that only Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and his Vice presidential running ,Dr Ifeanyi Okowa can rescue Nigeria at this point.

“We all understand as Nigerians that we are we facing challenges and it is of a magnitude that the country is the intensive care Unit and if we continue with APC administration is it is only down hills and Nigeria may not survive it any longer.

“The only way out is to go is to go with the recovery plan, we are in the ICU already, we have to come up with the best , and the best right now is Alhaji Atiku and Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, it is important and critical that we get our people to understand the importance of doing the right thing in this coming elections , because if we make another mistake , it will be the end for Nigeria.

“The only way out is to vote someone who can help Nigeria recover from the sickness of poverty, poor education, insecurity hunger and disunity and the only person that can give us that is Atiku Abubakar,” Imoke said.

Responding to the threat by G5 Governor’s, Sen.Imoke said that the crisis was an internal one and would be resolved internally as soon as possible adding that no one has left the PDP so far and the matter was resolvable.


On his part , the , Chairman of the Campaign Council in Cross River , Sen. Gershom Bassey said it was extremely important the Peoples Democratic party , PDP wins the Presidential election which comes first and other positions will follow.

He said :” It is very clear that the key to the victory in Cross River is Atiku wining the presidential election , because once we can win the first elections all others will fall into place , we know that the presidential election is key , very strategic to us, in winning all others.

“Our track record as a party is unparalleled , no other Party can match it , our track record is clearly tangible , in terms of empirical evidence ,PDP is way ahead , is it economy, security , name it.

“But under APC in only about seven years Nigeria became the Capital of poverty in the world ,our strategy simple , we are reaching out to the people and we believe they will listen.

On his part, the Director General field operation for the Atiku Campaign Organisation,Micheal Eja explained that it was obvious that Cross River has been a PDP and will remain so after 2023.

“Atiku / Okowa ticket will fly, because we have been a PDP state, and the PDP will go into the election as one family because all our disagreements would be resolved amicably and we will not only win in Cross River we will win across the country.

“Our people are interested in good governance , CrossRiverians will express themselves with their votes , our people are no longer interested in the issues of zoning , they want to feel governance real time and I believe they will speak with their PVC in favour of our party both here and beyond,” Eja said.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council, has accused the APC-led Federal Government of mismanaging the country’s diversity and frustrating previous efforts to sustain her unity.

Spokesman to the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, Charles Aniagwu, said the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa would work towards resuscitating the brotherhood and unity that existed among Nigerians.

In a statement, Aniagwu said the APC administration destroyed the diversity that was one of the country’s major pillars and urged Nigerians to vote the PDP in the interest of the unity, peace and progress of the country.


He said an Atiku’s presidency would ensure peace and unity among ethnic groups in the country for all-around development.

“The Atiku-Okowa ticket intends to bring back Nigerians together in unity because in the last seven and half years the All Progressives Congress APC has mismanaged our diversity in this country.

“We are glad that our party is determined to unify all Nigerians, our purpose of moving in one direction is not just to win election, it’s also meant to bring back Nigerians together.

“This is very imperative because in the last seven and half years, our diversity has received a very dirty blow and the bruises are very very visible across the length and breadth of this country.

“This is because of the mismanagement of our diversity in this country. Nigerians must understand that in unity and diversity we are able to come together.

“Just as it is said in our old national anthem, ‘though tongue ad tribe may differ in brotherhood we stand’ the Atiku-Okowa ticket will bring back that brotherhood among Nigerians,” Aniagwu stated
