Thank you once again. Did I mention that I did replace the catalytic converter with a new one as well as both sensors! At first, it was the heater sensor that threw a code which was replaced, then the o2 sensor threw a code and it was replaced too. Then after the p0420 came on again. I guess either the converter or the sensors replaced is not compatible. That's y I want to opt for the defouler. And that content "he pored in the tank?"
The attached screen shots are from my scanner showing the performance of the car on current drive cycles. Can you help with that?

Good to know.

You were in safe hands then.

If the cat is bad, do you plan to replace it or you are ok with the defouler trick?

POST UPDATED/MODIFIED July 6, 2017

The problem with the vast majority of Nigerian mechanics is not understanding at the theoretical level how things work which is a prerequisite for careful, systematic and high quality diagnosis.

Here is my gift to you - yomingr : if you better understand the process, the system, the sub-systems and the interrelation between them, you will be better able to solve issues that arise when:

If your cat has not been hollowed out, why not try the suggestion in this video:

v
Just checking up on you!
Thank you for checking in. Unfortunately I still have the check engine light on after replacing the o2 sensors.I plan to get the defouler to see if it ratifies. Yes the car has gained power on jet off and gear performance is 10/10. the code is still p0420
Car Talk / Re: How To Remove Check Engine Light Originating From Bad/absent Catalytic Converter by yomingr(m): 10:04am On Jun 20, 2017
My cat actually went bad with the car's engine rattling at rev 4,500 "that knocking sound" So I decided to replace it. Yes the car gained on "jet off" acceleration but fuel consumption is still high @ 16mpg. Got a p135 directly pointing to bad o2 sensor heater 2 days after replacement. So I changed sensor heater only to get another p0420 "inefficient catalytic"'. A further scan on this showes a bad o2 sensor down stream. Will the defouler work for a bad o2 sensor? or should I just as well change it?

Hi Gazzuzz,

As I patiently await a scheduled appointment for my car as discussed on Monday, the below clearly expresses the issues I experience with the car 2011 Accord. it also consumes fuel like mad. My full tank of 67 litres i.e 17.69 gallons only drives 250 miles to empty which is 14 mpg. it's killing me.

"Slow take off, sluggish acceleration, lack of kick down, loss of drive while in motion, lack of gear change, aggressive gear changes, high engine revs without power in drive just to name a few."

Your kind advice on the most needed.

Thank you

Car Talk / Re: Automatic Gearbox Problems by yomingr(m): 10:57pm On Jun 05, 2017
cardoctor:
Automatic gearbox issues have become a reoccuring decimal to any automatic car owner. Slow take off, sluggish acceleration, lack of kick down, loss of drive while in motion, lack of gear change, aggressive gear changes, high engine revs without power in drive just to name a few.

From my observation and the complaints made by some of our customers, these problems usually start from a gearbox oil change that was recommended by the mechanic who then uses the wrong type of ATF oil for the transmission.

Most car manufacturers develop their own ATF formular for their cars.

Honda recommends their own formular ATF-z1 for their gearboxes manufactured between 1998 to 2009 and upgraded to the ATF-Dw1 for gearboxes manufactured from 2010 upwards.

Toyota uses the Type 4 ATF for their cars manufactured between1996 to 2007 and the Toyota WS ATF for ones manufactured between 2007 to present.

Most other car manufactures have also upgraded the type of ATF for their modern cars.

Using the wrong grade of ATF would almost certainly result in a failing transmission. Low grade ATF may not be able to handle the high temperature operations operations of a gearbox. Under very high temperatures, low grade oil loses its fluidity and may begin to boil causing loss of hydraulic functions by frothing or foaming.

Some remedies I have seen used by local mechanics is to further add engine oil to the gearbox in order to thicken the viscosity of the ATF. This in turn puts the pump under great stress as the thicker oil would require more effort from the pump in distributing the oil under high pressure as well as the oil filter which is usually embedded within the transmission gear train. (The removal and changing of all Honda transmission oil filter would require the removal of the gear box from the car and stripping down the gearbox)

The resulting consequence would be an imminent and extreme overheating of the transmission and components such as the friction plates and a rapid degradation of the wet clutch fibres hence the loss of drive, slipping clutch and rough gear changes.

Replacing the gearbox or a total overhaul by an expert would be the likely solution but before then, an inexperienced mechanic would Send you on a wild goose chase by suggesting the removal and servicing or outright replacement of shift solenoids on the outer casing of the gearbox. These solutions Don't last as its just a temporal remedy to a terminal issue.

We constantly repair these gearboxes and those of other makes to a very high standard with 99.9% success rate and we recommend that if you are having serious issues with your automatic gearbox, ensure that the appropriate procedures are followed.

Car-Doctor.

Good evening Car Doctor. I'm glad to have come across this topic. I drive a 2011 accord with all the symptoms mentioned. Will this defect affect fuel efficiency? My fuel consumption is presently about 15mpg which is very poor compared to 27mpg as the average. Got a P0420 as the only code on an OBD I scanner.

I have however ensured to replace the transmission fluid with DW 1. (Got it from Luvving hubby).

Would you recommend changing the brain box as a good attempt to solve this issues? I intend to drain gear oil again to ascertain that the bad fluid is reduced to a least possible. Could this also help in reviving the transmission?

kindly advice further.

Barely 24 hours after MMM founder, Sergey Mavrodi wrote an open letter to Nigerian Authorities, criticising the later’s constant attacks on the ponzi scheme, BreezeReporters can authoritatively reports that MMM Nigeria has crashed.

The administrators of the scheme, early Tuesday, announced freezing of participants’ monies for one month.

In a letter posted on the scheme’s website, MMM said; “As usual, in the New Year season, the System is experiencing heavy workload.

Confirming the severity of constant attacks on the controversial scheme, the statement said “moreover, it has to deal with the constant frenzy provoked by the authorities in the mass media.

“Hence, on the basis of the above mentioned, from now on all confirmed Mavro will be frozen for a month”, the statement partly reads.

Mavro is the general name used to describe participants’ money in the system.

It added; “The reason for this measure is evident. We need to prevent any problems during the New Year season, and then, when everything calms down, this measure will be cancelled. (Which we will definitely do.:-))

Urging participants not to panic, MMM said that “the things are still going well; the participants feel calm; everyone gets paid – as you can see, there haven’t been any payment delays or other problems yet – but!.. it is better to avoid taking risk.:-)) (Moreover, there are almost three weeks left to the New Year.)

By implication, over three million Nigerian participants as claimed by the founder, Mavrodi, who were planning to withdraw their money ahead of the yuletide season will have to wait for one month.

Breezreporters.com recalls that similar scenario had played out in Zimbabwe and South Africa, where participants money were frozen for certain period, pausing the system, only to return with new adjustment in its terms.

One-Month Freezing of Confirmed Mavros

Dear members!

As usual, in the New Year season the System is experiencing heavy workload. Moreover, it has to deal with the constant frenzy provoked by the authorities in the mass media. The things are still going well; the participants feel calm; everyone gets paid – as you can see, there haven’t been any payment delays or other problems yet – but!.. it is better to avoid taking risk.:-)) (Moreover, there are almost three weeks left to the New Year.)

Hence, on the basis of the above mentioned, from now on all confirmed Mavro will be frozen for a month.

The reason for this measure is evident. We need to prevent any problems during the New Year season, and then, when everything calms down, this measure will be cancelled. (Which we will definitely do.:-))

We hope for your understanding,
Administration

Incredibly people are still getting paid as at today according to information from Guilders on the scheme especially those that are due to GH as at yesterday and today. Many more are being paired. Unconfirmed monies received and paid in today is over 5 million naira from the part this information came from.

It seems many believers and beneficiaries of this scheme are willing to go all in to make it a success as it has undoubtedly reduced the suffering of many poor Nigerians.

Another thing I wish to advise subscribers who are to GH "get help" is to make sure that the notifications of monies paid into their account are confirmed from the bank before they go online to confirm receipt of monies on MMM. This is so because it has been discovered that many fraudsters who has seen MMM as a source to wet their greedy beak have taken to the clever act of sending fake SMS alert to other subscribers they are suppose to PH "provide help" for while they "subscribers" innocently confirm receipts for these monies without the money available in their bank accounts while MMM goes ahead to confirm the fraudster and equally availing them with undue GH.

MMM has been a whole lot of assistance to. Nigerian and it should be embraced as banks will never offer the kind of assistance and avenue to grow like MMM does. All what these banks do is loan your hard earned money to the rich at little or no interest while they won't even look at your financial request when you genuinely need one.

MMM ha come to stay. And people are still subscribing as we speak no mater how much it is bad mouthed.

Car Talk / CAR OVERHEATING? Basic Tips For Solutions. by yomingr(m): 6:15am On Aug 24, 2016
Sadly many car owners, users and drivers encounter engine overheating issues NOT because the engine is NOT designed for Nigeria temperature but because our mechanics are quick to removing an engine's thermostat the moment the car leaves the sea port. More should be done in educating many of our "uneducated" mechanics and sadly ignorant end users.

Allow me to chip in a few tips on how to manage and solve overheating issues in vehicles. Please bear in mind that I am NOT an auto mechanic in practice but I do take my time to read car care tips online and as I follow these processes I became better with basic overall car maintenance over the years.

Once you notice your car overheating be patient enough to allow the engine cool off then follow the below process.

1. Check your water reservoir. It's most likely empty. Some reservoirs are easily removable like in toyota cars. Remove it and empty water content. Get a good radiator coolant and pour in content to the required fill level. Also refill your radiator with clean water. Please be sure that the water reservoir is not broken or punctured in any place as this will cause quick evaporation of the liquid content in your radiator there by causing it to overheat frequently. It's very important that you replace it if it's leaking.

2. Check the radiator cap. (small but mighty).
Yes small but Mighty indeed. As small and almost irrelevant as it looks, a bad radiator cap can/will cause your radiator to loose liquid content rapidly there by causing overheat. Quite unnoticeable, the radiator cap has a small rubber seal beneath it which holds in water and ensures the radiator is air tight. If you notice this rubber is not there or you are not sure if it is or NOT please get another one. Be sure you replace it with specified one. You should find a number on the old cap you removed. Use it as a guide when getting a replacement.

With your thermostat in good functional condition your overheating problems should be over. Endeavour to pour in frequently required radiator coolant in the water reservoir. This helps prevents rusts and corrosion in the radiator which causes the damage on the radiator eventually leading to overheating.

Please feel free to send an email for further guide on car care tips to yomingr@yahoo.com or call 08099241159. I will be glad to assist.

Thank you
