Haha, they hardly offer a credit card to newbies because you do not have a credit history. That's very normal. If you insist on getting a credit card with them, you could get a prepaid credit card. So you put money inside, spend it and pay it back in order to build your credit.

Also make sure you pay your phone bills on time. After about 6 months to a year, you should qualify to get a proper credit card.

Have seen some info from RBC about giving CC to new immigrants without credit history and even initiated the proces to open one overseas...Or have they discontinued that? http://www.rbc.com/newcomers/ Fine print must be read though grin

Hello all
Am new to this thread and just reading some of the post has proven to add alot of underatanding to the process. God bless u

Pls i will like to ask a few questions just for clarity and would be grateful for answers
1. Since 2015 i have stayed in the UK for about 3months and when i went to america i stayed for another 3months and that was in 2016. Does it mean i have to get pcc from these countries since my travel history will show it?

2. My brother who is also trying out the immigration thingy has been in america for more than they stamped him in? Pls how does this affect his application and probability of selection. Also is it better for him to come back to nigeria so his passport shows he is back?...

Pls i will appreciate every imput i get on these pudding issues
God bless

Ehh? Overstay? Ah well it is up to the VO to decide but that is very very tricky.

When I first read your comments, my first intention was to get a voice recorder to go around the City and let Londoners address your concern. But, then I realized I wasn't going to be able to upload the voice file on nairaland.

The person who told you that London is filled with Hispanics and very low class immigrants didn't paint the correct picture of London to you. London is by far what that person had described to you.

First of all, Canada is not the States. You will never find a congestion of Hispanic immigrants anywhere in Canada like you would in the States.
Do you know that Mexicans don't need a visa to enter Canada? Nevertheless, a lot of Mexicans would prefer going through the trouble of risking their lives by paying thousands dollars to smugglers to cross the US border illegally or to jump the wall between US and Mexico all for the sake of living in the United States. For reasons known only to Mexicans, they don't want to come to Canada where a visa isn't a requirement to them. And a trip to Canada by plane would be safer and cheaper to a Mexican than paying smuggler to enter the States illegally. I don't think there is any place in Canada where you can hear the Hispanic language on an ongoing basis unless you go to a Hispanic Church or involved with Hispanic people . I never heard Spanish on the streets of London from random people.

If someone told you that he had seen so many Hispanics and very low class immigrants in London, Ontario, I can only see one thing: This person was staying at a homeless shelter in London. The homeless shelter is the only place that would fit the description of the London that was painted in your post. Not only the shelter is the place you would meet many new comers (mostly refugees or asylum seekers) who are trying to settle in London or in Canada but also Canadians who for one reason or another had lost everything and are trying to get back on their feet.

Anyone who has full time employment in London, regardless of the job type, would be aware that the work force in London is mostly made of white. You were given an incorrect picture of London by someone I strongly suspect had never got involved into the fabric of live that makes the City of London. A colleague friend of mine who is French Canadian (white) had always complaint to me that London is the first city she had ever lived in that is so full of white people. She is used to diversity. She was born in Montreal and had lived in a numerous cities in Canada and in Bordeaux, France. According to her, London has the highest density of white population per square inch in Canada.

London, Ontario, is the only place where I have seen African immigrant single mothers purchase their first homes. I went to school in New York City, I had been to Montreal, Toronto and it is close to impossible to see a single black mother purchase her home in those cities. In London, Ontario, I didn't see just 1 but a good number of them. As a matter of fact, almost everyone I know who had moved here had been able to purchase their first home.

By the way, where are you located if you don't mind me asking?

Check this info on London out @Canadianfly

Nope. Don't think so. Many people have gotten PR without even ever boarding plane prior to that. In fact eh this whole FBI pcc thing makes me regret carrying my behind up and down the place. I for just be exempt from this wahala

I mean i've travelled quite a bit on short trips so none of them warrant a PCC. So my travel history has a few entries there in my application. Do they have to do some verification or checks for those short trips?

Had similar situation, meds passed May 18. They dont test for Hep B, but they will ask if you have it. We answered yes! but it is not an issue as its negative antigen (that means you cant pass it on) and if the viral load is less than 2 million so you are a healthy human being.

All the best.

My timeline is similar :

AOR - 22nd July
MP - 2nd August
NA/IP1 - 2nd August
NA2 - 3rd August.
IP2. - ?

Please do you know where your application is? I was told mine is still at CIO.
I am also expecting IP2 or PPR by God's grace.

Are the applications supposed to move from CIO? I just got to know yesterday also that my application is being "processed" at CIO and i'm in NA2 since 25 July as well.

Bros you need to be quick to dive into the pool. You have more than a chance to be successful. By the way ITA cut-off is dipping, you stand a good chance of securing one soon. Don't know how quickly you can get your IELTS and ECA done though. Cheers and all the best!!

I tried the EE I scored 375 with my Bsc and 2yrs work experience though with a low score in Ielts 5.5 the NOC I actually wanted to apply is in NOC C.

What do you guys thinks like there are no much chances for NOC C as I mainly see NOC A& B with much request

NOC C are not eligible for express entry. Period. Not likely to change any time soon. See if you can get a NOC within A or B which closely matches your work experience and use that to apply. As for your IELTS, you need to improve your scores big time to get you above 400. Try and aim for scores in LRWS of 8,7,7,7 minimum to give you some hope

Congratulations once again. I asked earlier if ur gckey was approved before u recieved the pick up mail. I got my passports and copr for myself and two dependents on monday. I noticed one was the passports was not stamped but the COPR was included in the package. So i called accra to complain and what i was told got me really pissed. So i called cic canada and they called accra while i was put on hold. The nice lady told me she was very sorry and shocked because there was nothing wrong with my application from their end and my application has been approved since i got the PPR mail. Accra then mailed me and told me to return the unstamped passport, copr and the mail they sent. I have to spend another 46k for their error in accra. No apologies from accra for their incompetence. I hope no one has to experience this and maybe PR visa's would be done in Nigeria later in the future. Accra visa office behave as if Canada is a part of Ghana when u call or message them.

You are obviously losing about 20 points cos of age. With BSc, good IELTS score, 3 year work experience and less than 30 year old, you can get 441.

Age points for CRS increases till it maxes out at circa 29 and then it starts to decline again. Keep praying the cutoffs for ITA decrease some more.

Please pardon the delay in replying. The training programs could come in the form of those organized by settlement agencies, bridging programs and/or internships.

Let me illustrate based on my experience and research with examples;

Access Employment, http://accesemployment.ca/index.php/working-in-your-sector

They have great sector specific training programs which help internationally trained professionals to understand the Canadian work environment and prepare you for focused job search. They aid with resume writing, interview prep and most importantly, networking. Please use the link above to research/contact them

COSTI, http://www.costi.org/programs/employment.php

They extensive expertise and experience in operating successful employment programs aimed specifically at assisting internationally trained individuals to obtain meaningful employment. Please see their link above as well.

Career Edge
, https://www.careeredge.ca/for-job-seekers/register-iqp/

They assist experienced newcomers by connecting Canadian employers to job seekers through a paid internship. Following the internship, you are better equipped to tackle the wider job market and may be retained by your employer on a permanent, elevated basis.

YMCA Employment Services, http://ymca.ca/What-We-Offer/Employment-Services

Their programs are more general in nature for those who want opportunities in lower level work opportunities or trade occupations and youths. They also have placement opportunities, mentorship and one on one support.

Dixie Bloor Neighborhood Centre
, http://dixiebloor.ca/employment-2/job-search-workshops-for-newcomers-to-canada/

They have short job search workshops which are designed to help you identify steps to reach your employment goals and understand specific occupations in Canada. They also teach you how to get connected with mentoring programs, job development, business directories etc.

Dufferin-Peel’s Adult Education Centres, http://www3.dpcdsb.org/programs-services/adult-education/work-experience-co-op-programs

They offer a range of training programs that provide development in professional and language skills with co-op placements.

Newcomer Center of Peel, http://www.ncpeel.ca/index.php/services/look-for-employment

They also have training programs.

The Mentoring Partnership, http://www.thementoringpartnership.com/mentoring/mentee/

A great way to get guidance from a professional working in your field of experience, I am a registered Mentor with this organization.

For general newcomer assistance, how to learn about child care assistance, to do your taxes, general job search, how to register for things available to newcomers, try Centre for Education and Training, https://www.tcet.com/newcomer-info-services/locations

This is not an exhaustive list please but just a few quick examples of where you can go to get assistance in the GTA, Ontario. For those outside Ontario, please check here and research your target province and city, http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/newcomers/services/index.asp

Once again, everyone please pardon my late responses to your personal messages. I'm humbled by your messages, good wishes and prayers and I will try to keep up with the requests for info and tips as time permits. I know we can all succeed and our journeys will end in praise.

Awesome resources man!! God bless you for being super helpful. It's like your drive to help people out here is divine. I want to be like you!! grin
