I agree with you , but not everyone in 9ja got their jobs with connection. I stay in Canada where the job market here is basically connection they call it referral. I spoke to a recruiter with one of the big 4 banks and she confirmed it . So it the same every where if you look closer . It might be worse in 9ja but the job market and connection is same. That why you see people scrambling for temp roles the FT roles is referral o.

A so-called qualified doctor from Nigeria that cannot pass the medical board exams in most of those western countries.

You want to compare most if not all those people earning high incomes in Nigeria to the western countries when we all know that most people in Nigeria are getting those high paying jobs through connections and not necessary through earned merit.

Keep living in denial.

Slavery in this context is not physical but psychological. When you see a qualified doctor or someone who earned really well back in Nigeria but now abroad driving uber then you will understand or work in factories. For someone who is professionally inclined can never be happy he just survives and regrets but they will not tell u.

Beautyaddy:

I notice that most excuse offenders that are not admitting to the ongoing failed state of Nigeria are using the highlighted quote to console themselves.

Question is how are people who are living and working abroad being enslaved?

Are they being abused at work like some work places in Nigeria are allowed to get away with?

Are they owed months upon months of salary like some work places in Nigeria do?

Mind you most work places can get sued if the employees sense any form of discrimination of any form...even the illegal immigrants being employed in those jobs are not excepted from suing the employer for any type of abuse or discrimination.

Does any job in Nigeria have unions or employees rights they way they have them in most western countries?

Well said. I think the problem with most Nigerians abroad is that they want to return but really dont know whr to start so they rather remain in that survival job and console themselves with i am doing it for my kids. If they had the opportunity to rewind their lives they wud hv stayed in Nigeria. In my opinion do whatever makes you happy cos u only hv one life to live and you dont want to live it in regret. I will rather be a king in my country than be a slave in oyinbo land.

thewatcher2020:

Stop arguing with those dissenting voices! It’s insane to spend over $65,000 from your parents in Nigeria on tuition overseas in a country like Australia and you end up packing shi.it of older citizens and wash plates in restaurants while having some masters degree and be deceiving yourself that “it is just for the time being”.

Trust me, it is easier for you to convince a brick wall to submit to your superior argument on here than to convince some sluggards on this forum on the importance of dignity and sense in yourself. A living witness here, I NEVER EVER NEVER EVER DID NO DAMN MENIAL SHI.T WHEN I WENT ABROAD. All I had to do was scale my expenses for the entire year during my student visa and post-study visa, paid my rents 12 months upfront and got my allowances 12 months upfront (albeit little in comparison to what menial guys make). I got a decent paying contract job while on student visa within 3 months of stepping foot into the country.

I told myself before leaving Nigeria that ANY job that I can’t do in Nigeria, I will never do abroad. It’s really a personal decision which I think it’s sane but people here be thinking because you’re African, you must appreciate just “being” in the foreign country. Balderdash trash!

Hello,

I need help with accomodation within the GTA.

Can you assist me with your realtor.

I sent a mail to connect with you on nairaland

czaratwork:
My people,

How has it been? A shout out to those that towed the financial analysis path. How has it been learning Advanced excel and some accounting packages? I hope at least one person gained from the knowledge sharing. I know i had also posted on AML role, i hope it helped at least one person.

Then for black female accountant network, i hope we have not only joined the group on linkedin but also on whatsapp as jobs are posted on regular basis in the whatsapp group.

If you are landing in GTA and need a realtor to help you with accommodation, please inbox me and i will give you the number of the person that helped me.

Sorry my PM responses are not as fast as before, my default gmail is my new gmail account. Sometimes i forget i have another gmail to check.

If you are still finding it difficult to integrate, don't worry. We will all be okay las las.

Finally the voting for RBC top 25 is almost coming to an end and i need your support to vote for Jenny Okonkwo (founder of black female accountant network). You can vote for 3 times in a day.

Thank you.
Travel / Re: Nigerian Man Reveals Why He Dumped His High Paying Job To Relocate To Canada by ysmd: 1:14am On May 12, 2019
Well what works for A might not for B. Canada is good but very soon he will realize there is actually no perfect place. When it comes to security Canada also has it shares of gun violence. The job market here in Canada is tough and as competitive as the job market in Lagos the only thing is there is dignity of labour here hence people settle for survival jobs to pay bills. Survival job is good o bt as Nigerians we are well read and love professional jobs . Sooner or later you start to tell yourself am better than this and then regrets sets in.

But like i said different strokes mehn. If you are the type of person who loves to do the same thing every day, good road, electricity , boring life , predictable life Canada works just fine.

But if you are the type of person who looks forward to the challenges of each day then Nigeria is for you.

When i compare both having worked both professionally in Canada and Lagos, i choose Lagos.

The best you can do is give your kids that other option.

Ps- my phone broke and that is where that whatsapp number is active.

@Mummyjaygirls We need you on this o.I also fall in the same boat. I was once refused a visa and appealed. I Won the appeal. I have stated no to the statutory question. Am i ok or should i raise a CSE.

Quickly raise a CSE with a LOE and probably a schedule A form and send in ASAP..... also send d same docx as emails to ur LVO (if u know where it is) and multiple calls to ircc to ensure your cse is forwarded to d VO promptly.
because this mistake can be very costly.
And yes, u may have misrepresented yourself.

Does this amount to misrepresentation eventhough an appeal was made and visa finally approved. Pls enlighten me

Shu! You should be thanking God, the application was not cancelled/rejected. If I were you, I would have calculated using black market rate by now, gotten the shortfall in my account, printed another statement and raised a CSE with the new POF details.

In my opinion, how can rates be locked in My advice to people use Black market rate (this gives a buffer from official rate)...you know the naira is subject to foreign exchange fluctuations. Abi eventually when you get PPR and travel, is not the current black market dollar/PTA rate you will use for conversion? Even sometimes they ask for POF at the point of entry...

My 2 cents...we are learning.

@Folamingo. This is an eye opener. Pls wat the black market rate as at today.

Move it to personal history

yimiton:
Thanks for taking your time to give us such detailed advice. I am taking it to heart.

I'm filling my form already and I didn't assess my first degree. Should I include it in the place provided for personal history or for study history, being that I don't have an ECA for it?

Thanks again!

What local govt did you call. I used Ikoyi for my registry. if it can be corrected like you stated below what the process and timeline?

philip3:

yeah, I just don't understand the mail thing. was going to ask you about your marriage certificate issue. my discrepancy is on the job title on my marriage certificate.
called someone who says it can be corrected and the certificate ready issued.
however I'm planning on swearing affidavit and getting it acknowledged by the local govt before embarking on such.

@Ugoiyke79e pls how do I get a marriage notification slip. Kindly advise me on the process for obtaining it.

ugoiyke79e:

In my case, the marriage cert disparity was in my age. I was quoted a wrong age as at d wedding date...I never even really bothered about it until i read about the poster with "different occupation" problem.....
so after reading his/her experiences and when i got an ITA, this is what i did

1) in the placeholder for marriage cert i uploaded a merged copy of (in the sequence listed below)
- marriage cert
-LOE pointing out d disparity and explaining why/how it occured
-marriage notification/announcement slip and registry publication both having my correct age/D.O.B stated on them
-Birth certificate( N.B a birth cert is not ordinarily requested of adults but in dis case i judged it necessary to prove my point)
-Sworn affidavit of age declaration made by my mom so many yrs ago(for a different purpose)

2) In my LOE placeholder, I had a 2-page letter explaining different things in my application, one of which was d age disparity (and proof/supporting documents )
already mentioned in d marriage cert placeholder.

So you could look and decide how to prove your own case.
Cheers.
