Foreign Affairs / Zelenskyy: Up To 100 Ukrainians Dying Every Day Amid War by Yurnemesis: 11:46am On May 23, 2022 |
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that up to 100 Ukrainians may be dying every day as fighting in the eastern flank of the country continues, The Kyiv Independent reports. Ukrainian troops are currently trying to defend the eastern city of Severodonestk as it endures heavy bombardment from Russian forces trying to take the Donbas. The sole working hospital in the city has only three doctors and supplies for 10 days, according to governor of the Luhansk province Serhii Haidai. In April, Mr Zelenskyy said between 2,500 to 3,000 Ukrainian troops had died so far in the war with Russia and another 10,000 had been injured. He has now urged the 27-member EU to expedite his country's request to join. It is to be discussed at a Brussels summit in late June. https://news sky com/story/ukraine-news-live-public-dissatisfaction-predicted-in-russia-after-claim-they-have-lost-as-many-troops-as-in-nine-year-afghan-war-12541713 |

Foreign Affairs / Russian Warplanes Pound Greater Idlib Militants After Deadly Attack In Syria by Yurnemesis: 8:07pm On May 11, 2022 |
On May 11, warplanes of the Russian Aerospace Forces carried out at least two airstrikes on the northwestern Syrian region of Greater Idlib where several terrorist groups are present and active. The Russian airstrikes targeted militants’ positions in the outskirts of the town of Benin in the southern countryside of Idlib. The airstrikes were likely a response to recent violations of the ceasefire in Greater Idlib. On May 10, the Russian Center for Reconciliation in Syria said that a soldier of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) was killed as a result of an indirect fire attack that originated from the region. The attack was a blatant violation of the ceasefire, which was brokered by Russia and Turkey more than two years ago. Al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, the de-facto ruler of Greater Idlib, and the Turkish-backed National Front for Liberations were behind most recent ceasefire violations. On May 6, Turkish-backed militants targeted a battle tank of the SAA near the town of Hantoteen in the southern Idlib countryside with an anti-tank guided missile (ATGM). The SAA responded to the violation on May 8 by targeting a vehicle that was carrying militants to the frontline in the al-Ghab Plains in the northwestern countryside of Hama with an ATGM. Six militants were killed and four others were wounded in the attack. The situation in Greater Idlib remains far from being stable. However, the region will not likely experience a large-scale military confrontation between the SAA and the militants any time soon. Russia forces active in Ukraine and Syria, but the West talk say their weapons go soon finish. Foreign Affairs / Syrian Scenario’ Possible In Ukraine, Russia Warns by Yurnemesis: 7:52pm On May 11, 2022 |
A potential false-flag chemical attack would trigger a probe to blame Moscow, using fabricated evidence, the military says Moscow has accused the Ukrainian authorities of plotting to use weapons of mass destruction (WMD) to frame the Russian military. The incident would be used to trigger a “Syrian scenario” investigation to falsify evidence and assign blame, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, the head of the Russian Radiation, Chemical and Biological Protection Force, said on Wednesday. “The Russian Ministry of Defense has information about the preparation of provocations with the goal of accusing the Russian Armed Forces of using weapons of mass destruction, followed by a ‘Syrian scenario’ investigation, which allows the necessary evidence to be fabricated and blame to be assigned,” Kirillov said, apparently in reference to the events surrounding the alleged 2018 chemical attack in Douma, Syria. At the time, the US, UK, and France immediately blamed the government in Damascus and launched strikes on Syrian territory before an investigation could take place. The subsequent probe by the OPCW, which also pinned the blame on Damascus, was marred by inconsistencies and a whistleblower scandal. Kiev was preparing to stage a chemical incident well before the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine broke out in late February, the official said. “The high probability of such provocations is confirmed by the requests of the Kiev administration for the supply of personal protective equipment for the skin and respiratory organs which provides protection against toxic chemicals and biological agents,” he added. Moscow has repeatedly accused Kiev of seeking to stage a false-flag attack to blame Russian troops. In late April, Kirillov outlined “three scenarios” for the potential use of WMDs by Kiev’s forces. At the time, he said that a false-flag attack on civilians or “an act of sabotage on Ukrainian sites which were involved in the development of the components of weapons of mass destruction” were the most probable. Other options allegedly considered by Kiev include the “discrete” use of WMDs “in small quantities,” as well as the “open use of WMDs on the battlefield.” The latter, however, would be the least likely, Kirillov noted.

Foreign Affairs / Italy: US And Russia Must Work Towards Ending To Fight In Ukraine by Yurnemesis: 7:14pm On May 11, 2022 |
The US and Russia must hold talks to try and put an end to the fighting in Ukraine, Italian PM Mario Draghi said on Wednesday - a day after meeting Joe Biden. Mr Draghi said that he and Mr Biden recognised that the road to peace was very complicated, but said everyone needed to make an effort to help Russia and Ukraine find a solution. "There are so many possibilities, but before we even get to that point, there is an effort that needs to be made and it is an effort that all allies, particularly Russia and the United States, need to make to sit down at a table," Mr Draghi said. The Italian PM added he is confident that Moscow's demand that European buyers pay for Russian gas in roubles will not lead to a disruption of supplies. The European Commission has warned that complying with the ask might breach EU sanctions, but Mr Draghi said it was a "grey zone". "As a matter of fact, most of the gas importers have already opened their accounts in roubles with Gazprom," he said. About time, Diplomacy is the only viable solution to this crisis- OP https://news sky com/story/ukraine-news-live-russian-air-defences-struck-by-bayraktar-drones-in-battle-for-snake-island-12541713

Foreign Affairs / Russian SA Chief Boasts Nuclear Capabilities Claims NATO Would Lose In 30 Mins by Yurnemesis: 10:21pm On May 08, 2022 |
A Russian official has boasted that Russia would destroy NATO countries in "half-an-hour" if conflict escalated to the use of nuclear weapons. Dmitry Rogozin, Head of Russia’s Space Agency Roscosmos and former Deputy Prime Minister, said Sunday that in the event of a nuclear war, "NATO countries will be destroyed by Russia in half-an-hour." He stressed that such an event "cannot be allowed because the consequences will impact the [entire] Earth." He also claimed that Russian rockets are "the most reliable ones in the world" and suggested that people who planned the sanctions were "suffering from Alzheimer’s disease." "He just threatened that the space station might de-orbit on American or European soil. He said it doesn't fly over Russian soil, so we don't need to worry about it," former astronaut Terry Virts previously told Fox News Digital, referencing a series of tweets from Rogozin 1 Like

Celebrities / Selena Gomez Says Not Using The Internet Has “changed My Life Completely” by Yurnemesis: 1:54pm On Apr 06, 2022 |
The singer, who also sees a therapist, admitted she hasn’t been online in more than four years. Selena Gomez is one of the most-followed people on social media, but don’t count on her following you back. In an April 4 interview with Good Morning America, Gomez said she hasn’t used the internet in years and that her well-being has only improved. “I haven’t been on the internet in four-and-a-half years,” the Only Murders in the Building star said. “It has changed my life completely. I am happier, I am more present. I connect more with people. It makes me feel normal.” This might sound surprising coming from the fifth most-followed person on Instagram, but the singer revealed three years ago that she doesn’t even have Instagram installed on her phone. “I think it’s just become really unhealthy,” Gomez said on Live With Kelly & Ryan in 2019. “To spend time fixating on all these comments and letting this stuff in, it was affecting me. It would make me depressed. It would make me feel not good about myself, and look at my body differently.” Gomez has been open about her mental health over the years, publicly disclosing her bipolar diagnosis in March 2020 on Miley Cyrus’ Instagram Live talk show. Minimizing internet use isn’t the only way that Gomez is taking care of her mental health. She also sees a therapist and uses dialectical behavior therapy, a type of psychotherapy. “I have tons of workbooks, like a nerd, but I love DBT ... I have notebooks that kind of help me do that,” she said. Music is another important outlet for her, as seen on her revealing 2020 album, Rare. “I try to take what’s going on and turn it into something beautiful in the best way that I can,” she said. “When I have moments in a studio and create something from a place of, I don’t know, happiness, or sadness or grieving something, it’s such a safe place for me.” Now, she’s using her experiences to launch Wondermind, a platform that will allow users to access affordable resources and discuss mental health with each other, alongside her mother, Mandy Teefey, and Daniella Pierson. “I understand that feeling of having no one and it’s pure, it’s just sadness, and I know what that feels like,” she said. “But that’s what we’re trying to do here. We want there to be a community and a space for people to feel like they’re OK, that they’re not alone.” https://www bustle com/entertainment/selena-gomez-hasnt-internet-in-four-years-quotes?utm_campaign=fbproliqbustle&utm_content=6NIMTM3&utm_medium=pro&utm_source=facebook&lsid=ntimjm1nzu&fbclid=IwAR3tC0A0j7MpgnGvAfyTTuVL2F50INHPumNK5K_rtaHIvXd9_vvkL3Mzssg

Foreign Affairs / ‘I Don’t Want To Be Cannon Fodder’: Foreign Fighters Are Leaving Ukraine by Yurnemesis: 12:50am On Apr 01, 2022 |
A would-be fighter tells VICE World News that concerns over a lack of firepower, war tourists, and potentially being executed by the Russians have put him off joining Ukraine's foreign legion. When Phil, a 35-year-old former officer in the British Army, heard Ukraine’s call for foreign fighters to help defend the country from the Russian invasion, he felt he had to join the fight. But after a fact-finding trip into Ukraine to get a better handle on the situation, he’s had second thoughts. “There’s no point wasting my life for nothing,” he told VICE World News. “If I think I can go and support in a way that’s going to contribute to the security of Ukraine and the safety of Europe, then I will. But I don’t want to go on a suicide mission.” For a certain type of thrill-seeking idealist, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s appeal last month for foreign volunteers to join a newly formed international legion to fight the Russian invasion was an irresistible proposition. To those appalled by the footage of the Russian assault, Zelenskyy’s call resonated as an opportunity to play a heroic role on the right side of history. Within 10 days, about 20,000 people from more than 50 countries –ranging from hardened veterans to people with no military training – had asked to join. But a month on, there’s growing evidence that the reality of life as a foreign volunteer in Ukraine isn’t squaring with the romantic fantasy. Many foreign fighters, disenchanted with what they encountered, have already gone home early, with gripes ranging from a lack of adequate equipment and poor organisation, to the calibre of fellow foreign recruits. One group of volunteers fled across the Polish border after a Russian missile attack on Yavoriv military base, where international recruits were receiving training, last month. Canada’s Globe and Mail recently spoke to fighters who had abandoned the battle amid concerns over the lack of equipment, and being required to sign indefinite contracts, and were now doing humanitarian relief work in the country instead. A recent report in Belgium’s Het Laatste Nieuws newspaper claimed that more than half of the country’s foreign fighters in Ukraine had already returned home. “I didn't feel like serving as foreign cannon fodder,” one returnee told the outlet. Meanwhile, some prospective volunteers, like Phil, are also cooling on the idea. After his recent trip with two fellow British veterans to Lviv and nearby Yavoriv, where they met with Ukrainian military officers to discuss potentially enlisting in the international legion, Phil and his associates decided not to enlist, at least for now. https://www.vice.com/en/article/akv898/foreign-fighters-quit-ukraine?utm_medium=social+&utm_source=VICEWorldNews_Facebook&fbclid=IwAR0HCBkJZA6iGY6nOH7yYbYzSxGAs1xbR2tmH3qYLs7gfX7d48jY8_MyoOE
