kofsy: I saw some good schools that are 'topping their leagues' when it comes to Msc. in Clinical Psychology, but their tuitions scared me off. I don't want to put my hope on a scholarship that I may or may not get that's why I settled for MSU.

Lady, you seem academically sound to maintain funding. Don't fret over tuition costs with better schools. Nail the GRE and get funding. I'd say go for Clinical Psychology! Don't "settle".

queen47: Hi House, like i stated in one of the threads that I was to go for tourist visa interview on 2nd, I did go and was denied. Now I'm thinking of applying as a student so I can go with student visa. I wanna apply for nursing but the thing is I already have my Registered Nurse and Registered midwife certificates,

1-R.N.'s applying to the program must provide evidence of current Texas RN licensure. (School I contacted is in Texas)
The bolded does not apply to you ma'am. The RN-BSN program is for those licensed in TX. Whatever license you got in Nigeria will not count at this point. You need to apply as a FRESHMAN for BSN to a 4yr University.

Pls, would appreciated a list of some good affordable schools so I can look them up. Will prefer schools in Texas cos I have a sis there.

Which transcript are you sending out for evaluation? If you have a BS, evaluate the transcript and apply for a second-degree BSN/Accelerated program. I don't think I should explain everything in detail since you've got a sis in the states, TX precisely.

Religion / Re: Is It Sinful To Wear Trousers As A Christian Lady? by Yvete(f): 6:38am On Apr 18, 2013
paulynpen: I wish to support my sister post above, my little experience so far in God service shows He (God) is not comfortable with it, I have seen many ladies who are genuinely repented being warned by God to stop putting on trousers, not once not even thrice, I have a recent one whereby after great torment by the Holy Ghost she submiTted it to a brother herself even to the ones hidden which she did not want to surrender, as my sister has said, to be on safer side let us avoid it, it will not kill us or make us less beautiful. Shallom

Lawd GAd Awwmiddy!! Is this a joke or something? People never cease to surprise me on this nairaland. The Holy Spirit that is supposed to be her comforter tormented her? LOLZ. As long as a woman is decently dressed, she has no problems.

@ Topic: So wearing lacy mini-skirts with no undies is not sinful because its a skirt?

^^ You can't do much in Mexico except teach english for $6/hr or play soccer. If you've got plans to cross over to the US, Mexico is the last place you wanna be. Look for scholarships if you're interested.

I might go for it if I have no other choice. Or could anyone help?, I'll be very grateful.

Mr. Olarwarlay, please don't take my comment on being cheap seriously. I was kidding. Sawwwry!
You know, some of us stay down south so it won't make sense to ship your I-20 over here and down to Nigeria. Its gonna cost you more.

Anthonymighty: but this payment thing..is it a new policy for schools before they send i-20 you have to pay some fee? I didnt pay any fee for receiving mind via fedex 3 days express home delivery. apart from my application fee. And i deferred 2 good times and all the 3 i-20s they sent was thru fedex and i didnt pay a dime. So im kinda confused

Guess your school could not wait to have you after deferring multiple times. grin Maybe it was included in your application fee or they are just that nice over there. smiley

Don't be cheap @ Olarwarlay grin

But seriously, Fedex has guaranteed delivery. Why would you wanna risk it with regular mail? Paid $45 for mamacita via fedex. I guess yours includes a pick up fee.

IMO, MBA without relevant work experience is a hassle! I don't think people knowingly make wrong decisions. Some people need a more time to figure out what professional/career path to take.

I completed Sec. School at 16, then I had a passion for foreign service. Towards the end of my bachelor's, I realized that I may not realize my full potential at the United Nations (besides, the difficulty in snagging a job there). Graduated, took a few years off to re-evaluate my goals then a masters in a different field. It depends.

Nice thread. Anyone ready to lose weight for the summer?

I gained a couple since january (8 pounds) and I can't wait to drop it for the summer. I run 3miles x 4 days a week, but my eating habit sucks. That's my major hindrance. If I can say no to chocolates, it would be so easy! Will add weight training 2x/weekly too.

Health / Chinese Natural Acne Solution - Face Mapping by Yvete(f): 10:40am On Apr 14, 2013
Now, in your travels around the internet looking for a cure for your acne, you may have already come across something called Chinese face mapping.

Chinese face mapping is part of their ancient medicine system and is based on years of observation. It brings forth the idea that different parts of your face correspond to specific organs and body systems. So checking out your problem areas could give you some clues to what the underlying imbalances are.

This is an extremely popular concept right now amongst beauty gurus. And it seems like everyone on the internet has already written about it, but of course, all the interpretations seem to be slightly different. I have noticed a trend though, and one that goes best with my experiences. Example: chin and jawline = hormonal acne, forehead = digestion etc.
If this doesn't apply to you, there could be an internal problem that needs to be addressed by a doctor.

Religion / Re: Which Church Is Christ The Head Of? by Yvete(f): 3:43pm On Apr 13, 2013
MrBible: Is it the man made churches every where today that has replace their gods with tithes and lies or is Christ the Head of His Temple inside the mind of a true worshiper? John 4:23 - 24
23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.”

I don't think that verse has much to do with the Church. IMO, its about your personal relationship with God. "And he did right in the sight of the Lord, yet not with a loyal heart." (2 Chronicles 25:2). A friend of mine is mad that our pastor just bought a lake house and drives a Range Rover while the appearance of the Church is not all that, but I can't be bothered.

Like most people, I sin, I repent, I party responsibly, I pray, I forgive and sometimes I don't. The struggle for a wholehearted committment to God is what matters.

LEvuls: we've been surviving this struggle together until now..dont know why they see me as their servior,i ought to be laying holdon one or two assets now...seems they are the only thing i can account my money for now..wondering if they are living for me.

Ever heard of the word destiny-helper? Maybe thats what you are - the Joseph in the family. Without sounding like a preacher's wife, I believe that some families have one person that leads them to a land of plenty (Read Joseph story) even when they're taken for granted.

Good thing you realized early because it could mess up your plans for your future family. I watched my Dad do this all his life and till today, the responsibilites continue. Please don't drop this baggage when you get married so they don't blame your innocent wife for everything. Start now, but slowly. I think your mum is proud of ya! smiley

Please hang on a little longer, supporting them however you can while you prepare for your future family. To a certain extent, I believe that without you, they will survive, but don't quit on them completely.

Nairaland / General / Self-check Quiz: How Do You Make Others Happy? by Yvete(f): 9:55am On Apr 13, 2013
The best way to make yourself happy is by making other people happy;
How do you know if you’re making others happy? Here are some signs:

Are you a source of comfort for someone else?
Are you providing opportunities for others – job, blind dates, contacts in a new city?
Do you assist strangers in need - Financially, materialistically, spiritually?
Do people seem to feel comfortable confiding in you?
Do people whom you hardly remember go out of their way to greet you warmly?
Do people seem to want to connect with you — by making plans or by emailing, calling, or texting?
Do people seem energized by you? Do they smile and laugh in your presence?
Do people follow your recommendations?
Do people seem to drift toward you? Join a conversation that you’re having, sit down next to you at a meeting?
Do people whom you’ve introduced often go on to have a continuing relationship?
Do people whom you’ve introduced often go on to have a continuing relationship?
Have you recently been involved in the charity that involves many other people?

Even if you’re making people happy, they don’t always respond by making these gestures (which can be quite annoying.)

Which one of these applies to you? What are some other good signs/obvious indicators - their reactions (thank you .. smile) or do you sense their happiness somehow? Doa little charity or encourage somebody. Put a smile on someone's face this weekend smiley

Feexo: Hello guys, I hold a bachelors in Pol-sci and I am currently preparing for my GRE and Toefl coming up in June and August respectively.
I plan to study Pol-sci at the masters level, and I have chosen the under-listed schools after carrying out my due diligence. Suggestions are highly welcomed.
1]University of Oregon
2]University of Wyoming
3}Midwestern State University [Texas]

Do not pay out of pocket for a masters in Pol. Sci or Intl Relations. I got an invitation to Penn State after my bachelors, but I'm not interested in another degree that people will keep asking "what are you going to do with this"? Its frustrating unless you wanna teach.
Cancel out MSU anyways. Good school, but for Pol. Sci, look for schools in the Washington/New York area.
