The donation, which was made at an event held in Lagos, is the first in a series of donations that will culminate in the provision of additional medical equipment, grassroots sensitization, and medical infrastructure as part of IPPG’s support of the Federal Government’s effort on the COVID-19 pandemic.

“A healthy and prosperous Nigeria is an imperative for national growth and development making it important to support this laudable NNPC-led intervention which ensures the industry proactively and sustainably supports all those affected by this pandemic from patients to our first responders, frontline medics and caregivers, and every other impacted person, Mr. Ademola Adeyemi-Bero, Chairman IPPG said. “As a nation, we can only effectively address this pandemic through a widespread and concerted effort by all stakeholders. In addition to these, IPPG is embarking on a largescale grassroots sensitization campaign to further strengthen calls for social distancing, hand washing and other practices that promote good hygiene and limit the spread of COVID-19 – for maximum impact, this is being undertaken in partnership with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). Also working in partnership with the NCDC, there are plans to deploy a web-based application for enhanced tracking of the spread of infectious diseases and providing critical data for optimized resource deployment nationwide.

Science/Technology / Analysts Say That 70% Broadband Penetration Is Possible In Nigeria By 2025 by zeedave(f): 8:47am On Jan 10, 2020
The goal of the National Broadband Penetration (NBP) Committee to achieve 70% Broadband penetration by 2025 is possible, analysts in the telecommunications industry have said. A number of countries with lower gross domestic products (GDP) and per Capital Income have achieved greater broadband penetration raising the hope of the same possibility in Nigeria, the analysts have pointed out.

According to Emanuel Onajite, a research analyst whose research focus has centered on the impact of broadband penetration on low-income economies, “There is an indication that Nigeria is finally waking up to the need for telecommunications as a major pillar for national development, the inauguration of the National Broadband Penetration Committee is a pointer to the fact that things are set to change.”

Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Isa Pantami say the federal government and ministry are encouraging institutions to host their data in Nigeria. While speaking to journalists, Pantami said the need to boost broadband penetration from 37.8 percent currently to over 70 percent in the next five years was the pedestal for NBP 2020-2025.

The plan should attend to about 195 access gaps in the country, where some 40 million Nigerians reside. The minister said pervasive broadband penetration will make Nigeria a truly digital economy. A 25-member committee, led by MainOne Cable CEO Funke Opeke, has been inaugurated, and the team is expected to come up with a plan by the end of Q1.
The committee is expected to take a critical look at where the country is, after a painstaking review of the 2013-2018 phase and the status of penetration now. The members were enjoined to examine the challenges with a view to proffering solutions.

According to Onajite, the committee is just settling down to work and should not be rushed as they work on structures that will deliver pervasive broadband for Nigerians by the set target of 2025.

The Presidency demonstrated its commitment to improving the broadband situation of the country and the National Broadband Penetration Committee is working on a holistic plan that will proffer solutions to these issues. Chaired by Ms. Funke Opeke and the team of experts with an impressive pedigree of delivering in the digital space is set to deliver on the promise of a connected Nigeria.

This is critical because of the correlation between pervasive internet penetration and economic development. The World Bank estimates that for every 10% increase in broadband, GDP grows by more than 1%.

Celebrities / Festus Fadeyi Celebrates Birthday At 5 Orphanages, Welcomes 1st December Baby by zeedave(f): 5:47pm On Dec 16, 2019
The management and staff of Newcross Petroleum Limited and Newcross Exploration and Production Limited have celebrated the birthday of their Chairman, Dr. Festus Fadeyi with children at five different orphanage homes in Lagos and Ogun State.
The celebration was put together not just to serve as an opportunity to give gifts to the orphans, but also to draw attention to their needs in society. Dr. Fadeyi’s entourage was received by the children and their guardians who collaboratively chanted birthday songs amid cheers and exchange of pleasantries.
At Yemisi Alogi Orphanage and Children's Home, Ajegunle in Abeokuta, the Community Chairman, Prince Bello expressed profound gratitude to Dr. Festus Fadeyi for his support to the orphanage home and the community. “Times are hard in Nigeria today for most families as many are looking forward to a very bleak Christmas and New Year celebration but it appears that will not to be the case with the lucky children in Yemisi Alogi Orphanage & Children's Home, Ajegunle” he said. He further stated that the community will ever remain grateful for this show of magnanimity in the course of social responsibility from Dr. Fadeyi.
Some of the orphanages that benefitted include Lagos State run Modupe Cole Child Care and Treatment homeschool- one of the oldest in the state, founded in October of 1960 specifically for children with physical or health challenges whose parents are unable to care for; and the Gideon Orphanage in Abeokuta targeted at getting children off the streets through rehabilitation, reformation and reintegration.
At Gideon Home, the visiting team from Newcross Petroleum and Newcross E&P were welcomed by the orphanage’s first December baby.

HARDEYLEKE:

21 year-old Beverly Osu has been in the Big Brother Africa House a few days now but she’s got a lot of opinions about men.

The video vixen and model who was rumoured to have been engaged to rapper 2shotz recently said that she doesn’t take men seriously.

When questioned about falling in love in the Big Brother Africa house, the housemate said:

I was in a relationship with this guy and I was close to marrying, but I broke up with him just because after fighting with my parents over him, and with my friends too; I found out that he had not a single feeling and neither did he love me at all so I had to break up with him. After all that this guy did to me, every guy that I meet and seem to fall in love with or any one that tells me he’s in love with me, I don’t take them seriously. All I know is that you guys will be chasing something and on getting it, you leave the morning after that.
