look th first thing they do over here in the uk is to first established if u have learning difficulties if you do they provide an alternative way of doing the same course.
second thing is that they also try to know what kind of learner you are whether you are a visual learner or what ever the reason for this is just so they know what method they can apply in teaching you,
but in nigeria we just resume and they start dictating to you not realising that many of us cant hear or even if they decide to write they also fail to realise that a nu,mber of us can understand untill they renforce the teaching and before the end of a semester they arrange what they call tutorials  where u have to meetr one to one with your tutor/teacher.
but if it were to be in nigeria teachers will take an advantage of the one to one system and talk her into some thing else.
speaking of dressing come to the uk and they even dree worse but not enough reason for arrassement.
we must change our ways. the system is rotten and changes need to be made in the way we are being taught in our schools.

Politics / Re: Mass Failure In Neco Exams Again by zionsown: 12:53pm On Sep 21, 2010
wetin una dey talk why blame the student, the truth of the matter is that the government has failed this genertion, check the persentage of people that passed this exams if they are not from private schools where they are been taught properly and in the private schools they make sure their student are prepared by arranging mock exams for them, do these things happen in the government schools, its a shame becos firstly the so called government schools is not free they are being paid for in some state what is suppose to be free for the student and yet they cant use the money raised to even open a nice library for them.
look around these schools today and tell me which one of those have library, when i was in university of benin the lecturer will come to class and dictate maths for us, where dat kind thing for they happen, i read diploma in applied microbilogy from the university of benin, where i never saw a microscope. so pls pls pls lets not blame it on the student but instead blame it on the educational system that is not properly placed, pheeeew rubbish things. shame on nigeria government.
i never knew i was these brilliant until i got to the uk where i see things in practice and i have the opportunity to put theories to practice, that is how you learn.

Politics / Pls Join Me To Challenge The The Illtreatment Of Our Civil & Publi Servants by zionsown: 3:00pm On Sep 20, 2010
There is fire on the mountain and no one seems to be running, the treatment of the civil and public servant its unfair and bitter, i weep some times when i think of them. maybe i am wrong on this but can some one please tell me which country will survive without the public sector if your answer is yes then please tell me who then will run our schools et al. and if your answer is no please be fair in your judgement do you think they are getting enough salary wise considering the fact that they have to pay for their children school fees and medication, transportation and others. before i decided to send this thread on naira land i had a chat with a civil servant working with the ministry of education who say her salary was a mere 28,000 naira a month before tax compare to the 5million naira our senator takes home.
and i also no some politicians who were not voted into office who receives packages worth more than 500,000 monthly becos he is a political leader in one locality. my people should we continue to pay deaf ears and i dont care attitude to these things and allow corruption and ill treatment of our parents and friends advive.
please share your opinion on this matter as you may not know who is reading it might go along way to advicing the right people.

Culture / Re: An Open Letter To Middle-class Lagos Parents by zionsown: 12:22pm On Sep 20, 2010
what happens in a society where parents can not take care of the children feeding wise let alone getting education, i do agree with the poster but to some extent. i am a nigeria i have seen parents and children who will embark on a party just to gather the remains of foods and then bring it home only becos they cant afford good food and that is their only choice.
do you now think that such parents can have a strong hold of their children, when the responsibility of parenthood has fallen on the children in most cases how then will you now expect the future of such child to be secure, trust me had i not been i the uk it would have been worse because i couldnt afford to watch my parents or siblings suffer.
we must learn to help ourselves, if you live close to some one who cant afford education and you are wealthy enough to help why not instead of allowing the child go into agony of taking the wrong path.

please lets be wise and be our brothers keeper. love you all,

@whiterose how was i to know there was no social worker in nigeria, i never knew there was until i spoke with some of them and i have also communicated with some qualified social worker who is proud to be and the fact that you and your 12 years are not aware of the fact that social workers are not in nigeria only mean that you have to do your findings and correct your 12 years old sister's concept of no social workers in nigeria.
and if you say there is no social worker in nigeria then i am asking you now, should there not be a social worker in nigeria. we've got to think before we think

why wont some people just simply shut their stinky mouth if they dont know what to say or contribute to issues instead of waiting for some one that matters to contribute and then all they do is pick on what others says and then try to run them down. please you know yourself try and respect your self and the opinions of others as every one is entiltle to is own opinion.
you display of ignorants only goes to show that you dont have a brain of your own, if not you wont want to play on peoples intelligent. be warned.
Aunty Aisha please dont listen to these guys let them continue to run themselves down. i bet you dont know how many lives you have touched and save. God bless you and the works of your hand. if them nor like ur contribution make dem go hug transformer,

aisha exactly what i am doing, i do have some experience though as it is parts of the criteria to study social works here in the uk, but i am already working as a qualified social worker and i get paid alot for my service as a graduate i earn about 500,000 naira but money is not everything and i am just not happy doing this here dont mind receiving peanuts to work in a country that is mine if you know what i mean. i am so glad i have your e-mail andplease with ur permission i will call you from time to to for advice, help and guidance. and when i finally come home then we can talk and share ideas.
but i am starting to think that social work practice in nigeria is quite different from that of the uk. i think it is highly influenced by culture. thanks aisha. i hve learnt alot from you and others, if u dont mind what uni did u get your degree from. i got mine from university of brighton, uk.

AIsha i have sent you an e-mail i must confess the lessons i have gotten from this thread i could never have gotten it from any university or colleges all that have been said is true, the reason i choose to be a social worker is becos i believe some days you and i will be able to influence policies that cateres for what we know as pies (physical intellectual emotional social needs of our children. here in the uk there is act known as every child matters and it is upon that every benefit given to a child is drawn from. reason is that the government understand that the salaries or earnings that parents gets may not be enough to cater for children and if they struggles and becomes depress it might put the children at risk and becos of that they introduce the provision of sure start, play park, health visitors to visit families with children just to make sure they are ok and even the parents gets vouchers for vegetables and milk as well as child benefit all from the every child matters act.

my sister aisha i sat down one day and i decided i dont want to read law any more that i want to read a course that puts me in a position of care, the reason is that i have seen how mothers and children suffer in nigeria and maybe if i do social work i might be able to help in my own little way either by working as a social worker in nigeria or work with people like you and try to fight the inequality we suffer today in nigeria.

aisha my sister i know this is not an easy task and if it was easy i would not even think of it, how do you make sense of a mother who earns 23,000 naira monthly and yet has children in the uni to take care of not only that he is got to pay is rents even though she is a graduate she cant even get well enough salary to look after their children and pay her rents let alone transportation. please if any one is reading this tell me why we will not have a generation of thieves and criminals. and yet you have people who have thesame numbers of head receiveing hundreds of millions where is the equality. so i think that the whole system is not fair.
this is where we social workers come in policy making et al.
we can not get those who read agricultural science, political science, banking and finance to sit down in one place called national assemblies and dictate what and what will not happen to our children. becos they dont even have a clue.
here in the uk every ministry have a child unit be it police, army, any thing you can think of. so i think we should be able to resisit some things that are happening and challenge them. enough is enough we must be able to represent our children in every level. people may start thinking that i have no idea what naija is like, i do know as i

@onye babe thanks alot for pointing me in the right direction, all ur contribution means alot to me and i wil have to look for a way to research these area properly. i must confess some of the things i hear and read make me cry. children, youth and the elderly are not properly represented and cared for. a typical example is my mother who earns 30,000 naira a month and have to care for 7 children in the university what if i was not here in the uk, what if i have not waited for them to graduate before i start the pursuit of my degree they would have taken to the street becos when children are not given options in life then life will would have given them wrong inspiration and this is what makes them take to stealing and crime. i know its a bit like stating the obvious but it is so sad.

it is a shame if all said is true. i cant believe it. all i think of is the likes of children in adject poverty and those being abused and no one thereto protect them and social workers in the uk are policy makers they join in the decision making process as to how human in every level is being cared for. i was also wondering if we have children unit in our police stations? more contributions please.
