Business / How BUA Cement Price Rose 150% In 4 Weeks, Mgt Jerks Up Staff Salary By 50% by Zitaolives(f): 11:05am On Feb 19
One of the leading cement, producers in Nigeria, BUA Cement, has increased the salaries of its staff by 50 per cent in response to the current economic hardship in the country caused by the high cost of things.

This was confirmed in an internal memo released on Sunday in Lagos, signed by BUA’s Head of Human Resources, Mr. Mohammed Wali.

According to the memo, the salary increase which is for both permanent and non-permanent staff effective from February 1, 2024, is to help cushion the effect of the current economic hardship in the country for the staff.

“The Human Resources and Finance departments are processing the increase to ensure that it is captured in the February 2024 payroll,” the memo stated.

Education / Onyema, Obaigbena Seek Collective Action To Reform Nigeria’s Education Sector by Zitaolives(f): 10:33am On Nov 02, 2022
Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema and Prince Nduka Obaigbena of Thisday Media Group and Arise News Channel, have called for a collective action to salvage education sector in Nigeria.

Both men made this call on Sunday, October 30, 2022, when they were honoured by the alumni of Government College Ugheli (GCU) in Delta State, for their distinguished role in the Aviation and Media sectors in Nigeria.

The prominent alumi association of GCU Class of Friends honoured both men for their innovation and industry.

Allen Onyema was awarded “Man of the Year” for his landmark strides in Aviation and his humanitarian interventions.

Prince Nduka Obaigbena was honoured with the title, “Marina of the Century”.

The awardees during the ceremony called on well-meaning Nigerians to rally and together and make significant contributions in salvaging the education sector in the country.

Onyema and Obaigbena maintained that government alone cannot fund education especially at tertiary level and urged corporate individuals to see the need to channel their humanitarian assistance in that direction, as education remains the key to national development.

Onyema said “No government anywhere in the world can fund education alone, especially, tertiary education. You can do that at the primary and secondary schools level, but at the tertiary level, it’s difficult to depend on government alone to fund education.

“So, I call on corporate citizens, the corporate world to show a little more CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) towards helping in the funding of education. I will suggest may be a kind of education tax, because without education we will be no where. Education is the key to everything we desire.
