The governing council of the federal polytechnic KAURA-NAMODA, zamfara state has on 24th of January approved the sack of the Rector,Engr. Ahmad Abubakar Lugard after allegations of misappropriation of funds and gross mismanagement of the institution was filled by the Academic Staff Union Of Polytechnic (ASUP), students and concerned members of the KAURA-NAMODA community.

The Federal Polytechnic, KAURA NAMODA came into existence in June 1983 vide degree No 33 of 25th July, 1979 as amended in 1985.

Engr. Ahmad A. Lugard who hail from katsina state has being the Rector of the polytechnic since 2010,after he took over from Engr. Mohammed Na'ina. Over the years,the management has continuously being accused of embezzlement and allocation of school resources for personal usage.

Some of the allegations leveled against the rector includes;

- Embezzlement of funds meant for the welfare of the academic staffs
- Embezzlement of funds meant for payment of 9month outstanding salaries of school security guards
- Embezzlement of accreditation funds, resulting to the accreditation of only few out of the numerous programmes being offered in the polytechnic.
- Allocation of contracts to companies belonging to family members
- Diversion of school funds and resources to facilitate his political ambition among others.

The council has further constituted a committee to investigate these allegations carefully.The committee is to report back to the council in two weeks for further actions. To allow proper investigation by the committee,The council also suspended the deputy rector, Engr. Ahmed Gusau, the Registrar, Alh. Salisu Abubakar and the polytechnic Liberian..

An acting rector has since being appointed by the council to pilot the affairs of the institution until further notice....

Civil servants in Zamfara State have embarked on an indefinite strike to protest against the failure of the government to meet their several demands.

The workers had earlier given the state government a 21-day ultimatum to meet certain demands or face industrial action.

The Chairman, Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in the state, Bashir Mafara, announced the commencement of the industrial action after a joint meeting of the affiliated unions in Gusau.

According to him, the action was aimed at improving the workers’ welfare and development of the state.

He said: “Zamfara workers are faced with a number of problems which include: failure to pay the salaries of 1,400 recruited by the government more than two years ago; nonpayment of backlog of pension and gratuities; nonpayment of minimum wage to primary school teachers and local government employees as well as nonpayment of annual salary increment.

“The Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress, have decided to declare an indefinite industrial action throughout the state from Tuesday, September 12, 2017.”

Mafara, who called for understanding among the workers in the state, urged them to stay at home and pray; adding that three ad hoc committees have been constituted to ensure the success of the strike.

Our source is Zamfara state reported that the Governor yesterday (tuesday) boycotted and embarassed the state NLC leaders who were on ground to dialogue about the way forward, He later left for the UK yesterday afternoon.

This has raise alot of concerns among residents and indigene, and has further proven the insensitivity of the governor to issues concerning the state.

The NLC chairman has assured the public that it wont compromise until victory is achieved
