The idea of connecting a Smart Phone with/to a Television is nothing new, in fact, there are a handful of different ways to connect your Smart Phone with/to your Television. However, in the age of Smart Phones, we keep everything stored in our little pocket computers, things like videos, music, pictures, documents, e.t.c. One question most people always ask is, “Is It Possible To Connect The Two?” Of course it’s possible, I will teach you how to connect the two but some of these methods are easier than others. How To Get This Done;



1. Wireless Options (Google Cast and Miracast); the difference between these wireless products or technologies and their wired counterparts aside from the wires, is that instead of mirroring your Smart Phone’s entire display on the Television, you will pick and choose what is shown on the screen, for instance, you can play YouTube on the Television and still use the Smart Phone for other things, it effectively only becomes an expensive remote control.

Meanwhile, if you want to play your Smart Phone’s games on the Television, there will definitely be some lag between what is happening on your Smart Phone and what you will be seeing on the Television. Because of these lag, I don’t really recommend using wireless connections for gaming, you can go wired instead.


A. Google Cast:- was originally called Chromecast and is the easiest to use. Its essentially supported by all Android Smart Phones, it has all the necessary properties to stream DRM (Digital Rights Management) protect content, and typically, works smotely.

YouTube Splash Screen (When Starting a Google Cast); the supported applications for Android users are; Google Photos and Slides which are Google Cast-ready, this makes it incredibly easy to not only to watch YouTube or other movie services, but also share images, videos as well as presentations. Regardless of which wireless or application standard you’re using to cast, the actual casting process is very easy, just tap the cast button in the top corner of a supported application, then select your cast device.

Well, sometimes it’s hard to recommend Google Cast as the simplest and most effective way of connecting your Smart Phone with/to your Television. Also, you can purchase a Chromecast for as little as $35US and come away with the easiest to use and most versatile connection option.


B. Miracast:- is older and It was developed by the WiFi Alliance, as a way of replicating HDMI over WiFi, and it (Miracast) required the Television to have built-in Miracast support, however, many dongles are now available for you to add to any Television. In case you’re looking for Miracast products, I highly recommend Amazon’s Fire Television and Fire Television Stick, because they are its standard use.

One of the biggest problem with Miracast ties in with DRM (Digital Rights Management), and not all Miracast dongles are created equal, so, you may not or may be able to stream things like YouTube to every Television.



2. Wired Options (MHL and Slimport);

A. MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link):- was the first standard method for connecting an Android Smart Phone to a Television, it uses your Smart Phone’s built-in USB port, alongside with a specific cable that essentially converts the display output into a Television readable format on the other end, in other words, it’s a USB to HDMI cable. Meanwhile, there are two types of MHL cables, which are; Active Cables and Passive Cables.

Active Cables:- these are the most common types and they work essentially with any Television because they perform the actual conversion. To do this, they require an additional power source, usually in form of a built-in full-size USB plug.

Passive Cables:- these types of cables are designed to be used with an MHL-ready Television, in other words, they don’t do conversion themselves, also, these cables do not require separate power.


B. Slimport:- they works much the same, but the big difference with Slimport is that, aside from HDMI, it can also output its signal to VGA, DisplayPort, and DVI. However, the added flexibility is choosing a port type. Slimport requires a “breakout box” which is essentially a way for the unit to get power, it also provides a bit of taste to the host device, which is a nice touch since the display has to remain on while the phone is connected, regardless of the standard used.

Meanwhile, one of the biggest issue with the wired options is support, what was standard in most Smart Phones, both MHL and Slimport are becoming harder to find in both Televisions and Smart Phones, for instance, the last two Google Phones (Pixel/XL and Nexus 6P/5X) are both lacking standard, as well as the last several Samsung Galaxy Phones. Same goes for Televisions, though this is a simpler hurdle to jump thanks to breakout boxes, even if your Television doesn’t have direct support or MHL or Slimport, you can still use an active cable to make the connection work.

In addition, the problem lies with your Smart Phone. If you’re looking for a way to directly connect your Smart Phone to your Televisiin, you’ll have to do a little bit of research. Meanwhile, some manufacturers, like HTC and LG, still include MHL and/or Slimport in their Phones. Apart from that, you have to make sure you get the correct cable. The truth is, these wired standards are falling out of favor with the availability increase of good wireless options.

Method One: By Using Android Device Manager.

You know, since most users have Android devices running the newer version of the operating system, going with Android Device Manager is the best way of getting into a locked Android device. Apart from being a useful solution to track your lost Android device, this service also allows you to remotely replace the Password, PIN, or Pattern on your device.


Use a computer browser to access the Android Device Manager web page, which will first ask you to verify your identity with your Google account credentials. Make sure you sign in to the same Google account that you have setup on your Android device, and your device details will show up, along with its location.


Meanwhile, once your device is detected by the Android Device Manager, go ahead and click on the “Lock” button that shows up under the device details. Clicking on this option will highlight a new window, asking you to enter a new password and confirm it. Once you do so, your old lock screen password will be replaced by the new one and you can simply enter to regain access to your Android device.



Method Two: By Using The Forgot Pattern Feature.

If you own a device running Android 4.4 or lower, you can use the “Forgot Pattern” feature and bypass the lock screen. After you have unsuccessfully attempt to unlock your Android device 5 times, you’ll be prompted with a “Try again in 30 seconds” notification. Tap the “Forgot Pattern” button at the bottom of the screen and you will be given a chance to regain access to your device.


From the next screen, you will be asked to “Enter Google account details” in order for Android to verify that you are the rightful owner of the device. Use the primary Google account credentials you have set up with the Android device for verification. Once your account details are confirmed, you will be asked to set up a new password right then and there, which you can then use to access your device.



Method Three: By Factory Reset.

If there’s no way for you to bypass the lock screen on the Android device or if you’ve forgotten the credentials to the Google account as well, performing a factory reset is the last option. Before you proceed to do so, remember that a factory reset will erase all of the personal files, apps, and data stored on the Android device.


You will need to access the “Recovery Mode” on your Android device to perform a factory reset. While the combination of buttons differs depending on the device model and manufacturer, pressing and holding down the Volume Down and Power button is usually the combination required to access the Android bootloader menu.


Once you are in the bootloader menu, press the Volume Down button twice to select the recovery mode, and press the Power button once to confirm it. Now hold down the Power button and press the Volume Up button once to finally access the recovery mode.


In the recovery mode, use the Volume buttons to scroll down to the “Wipe data/factory reset” option and press the Power button once to select it.


The entire process should take a couple of minutes and you will be redirected to the recovery mode menu screen. Now go ahead and press the Power button once to select “Reboot system now” and you will be able to access your newly formatted Android device without seeing the lock screen anymore.
