But they are also renovating the bad roads now
They should finish revamping the old bad roads before committing trillions on a new one. Also honestly I do think we have more pressing need of this trillions that would be splattered on this project

Most of you are ignorant illiterates. Dave Umahi has stated many times that all federal govt roads are being repaired. The problem is we do t have the money to repair all the roads quickly so work is slow. He stated categorically there are just under 3000 awarded road contract and there is none where work is not on going.

Now a private company comes with a proposal to build a new transformational road with their own money. The road will cost $15b, the government will put down $1b, they will finance the rest and recoup their money from tolls. Mind you the entire budget for Nigeria is just under $30b. Should the govt say no?

Is the $15b for Lagos Calabar govt money? No!

Is they don’t build the Lagos Calabar road will the $15b go towards existing roads? No!

Are they repairing existing roads? Yes
But at a slow pace because we have no money!

If they don’t construct Lagos Calabar will it make repairs on existing roads faster? No!

Know the facts before you comment.
Existing roads are being repaired but govt has no money so it is slow.
The money for Lagos Calabar is not govt money and if you cancel the project the money will not go to existing g roads because it is not govt money.
False info. The cost of the project is $13btrillion and it was initially PPP initiated but now financed solely by government. The FG have released $1trillion already to the contractor.
Thankfully, you claimed the nation have no money but same nation embarking on a #13 trillion project. Please where the sense in this?
The $1 trillion released so far can go a long way to repair many roads that are dilapidated and unpliable.
Every reasonable government prioritize government businesses. Most of these roads are dead traps, instead to save people lives first, you're embarking on project that may not complete 15 to 20 years to come. Do you know how many lives would have been lost before the new road completed. This is more of capital reasoning and not this flexing the Tinubu's government is doing.
I can count more than 10 FG roads that need urgent attention and nothing is been done about them till I am commenting here.

The common sense crooner is now senseless.

We are saying that the existing roads leading from Cross River State to Lagos State and the numerous bad roads across the country should be fixed.
The coastal highway shouldn't be a problem for now.

People are dying on these bad roads yet the govt priority is a coastal highway that we all know wouldn't be completed in 20yrs to come.

How is that a bad idea if I may ask Ben?

In a bid to support criminality they start sounding like uneducated people.

If this coastal highway is not all about criminality, they should equally award instant repairs for all the bad roads in the country and release a whooping 1 trillion naira to start up immediate work on them.

I totally agree with you.

If you borrow money to build capital projects, that's perfectly ok.

Do you know that Nigeria was borrowing money to pay salaries towards the end of the Jonathan administration? Borrowing to pay salaries? Yes, they did. The finance minister at that time said clearly.

There is no logic in your argument. I live in the US and I can tell you that the US govt is the highest debtor on the face of the planet, I used to work for the US federal govt. They will always borrow money to build capital projects because they know that those capital projects such as roads, schools, and the like will bring more development and create an enabling business environment for businesses to thrive. When businesses thrive, the govt will get more taxes from those businesses, and employed people will also pay taxes. That's how you develop.
Nigeria has thousands of coastal lines that are wasting away right now. How many people do you know that are even thinking of investing along the coastline in other states besides Lagos? I don't know a single person.
With this road, many other areas will become economically viable not just Lagos, people will build hotels and other businesses along the coast in Ondo, Edo, Delta, Ogun, rivers, and others.
This is what you call out-of-the-box innovative thinking. Individuals borrow money to start businesses all over the world, govt also borrow money to build capital projects not to pay salaries.

The vast majority of those against this project are from the SE, so don't try to blame others for what is very obvious.
It also begs the obvious question - why didn't they bring up such objections when Buhari was building the 2nd Niger bridge? Was Nigeria not broke, was Nigeria not borrowing money, didn't we have many other roads in Nigeria that needed attention at that time?
To make it worse, the leader of these blind hypocrites is Obi. Now, this is a man who invested 30 MILLION DOLLARS into HERO BEER in Anambra while the state was facing many crucial issues such as erosion, bad roads, bad schools, doctors on strike for 13 months, and many more issues, yet he thought it was ok to invest that kind of money into a brewery.

I hope you were joking when you typed the bolded part.

Capital projects have been used in many parts of the world to jinja up slow economics. When you build capital projects such as this roads it affects almost every aspect of the economy - cement factories will have to increase their production, raw materials for cement will be sourced, and local businesses for that raw material will benefit. Iron producers will benefit, fuel suppliers and producers will benefit, engineers and other road construction workers will benefit, food sellers will benefit because they have to feed the workers, and the list is endless
This will help circulate money hard earned money into the economy and act as a catalyst for economic growth.
Now, when the road is done, more and more people will move closer to those areas that have been empty for thousands of years, and businesses will spring up in many areas that have never seen human traffic before. The effect is unimaginable, it will change the Nigerian economy on a monumental scale. A brewery? Are you really serious? grin grin
Comparing this to a beer factory must be an attempt on your part to be comedic ...I will just laugh out loud. grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

Clown.

In your audio US are there no breweries?

Why not keep quiet instead of sounding like a Big Fool online

The country's wealth I would assume or is the construction firm doing it for free. I believe it would go into our domestic debt?

grin

I doubt such a thing will be allowed on the road. The people selling fan yogo and gala on federal roads will soon be run out of business because most of the major federal roads are under repair, rehabilitation is just about to start in some of the roads

The only thing worse than an illiterate is someone who can read but does not understand what he read. It is not the government constructing the Lagos Calabar road it is a private company. It is not government money. It is private money. They are willing to construct that road because that road is profitable for them. The other roads are not so they will not deploy their money there.

Once again only $1b out of the $15b for Lagos Calabar is govt money, the remaining &14b is private money.. If you cancel the Lagos Calabar road you lose $14b worth of road construction that will not go to existing roads.

Don’t forget that $14b creates other jobs, employs workers, supports many other industries like cement, quarry steel rods etc.

Let me tell you what would happen instead of the Highway being not built

The road cost will be cut down by the amount of the FG share and the Highway will be 8 Lanes instead of 10 with
the Private investors paying for the full fund they planned to invest in the first place anyway

But be rest assured the Lagos Calabar Highway will surely be built
