berem: FORMER leaders of Niger Delta militants have warned that they will go back to the creeks if the 2015 presidential election is manipulated to edge out President Goodluck Jonathan.

The ex-militant leaders, who issued the warning while speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt on Sunday, expressed sadness over an alleged plot to scheme Jonathan out of the 2015 race for the Presidency.

The former militants, who gathered under the auspices of the Niger Delta Ex-agitators Forum and the Association for Non-violence in Niger Delta, said they would see the outcome of the election as an act of God if Jonathan genuinely loses out in 2015.

NDEF President, Mr. Amaibi Ombi, cautioned that it was better to allow for a free and fair election than to manipulate the process in order to scheme out Jonathan.

On the recent comments credited to the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Kingsley Kuku, and Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, Ombi insisted that such statements could not be a threat to Nigeria as a country.

Dokubo-Asari had warned that Nigeria would be history if he was arrested for threatening violence in the whole country if Jonathan was not allowed to run a two-term tenure as President.

But Ombi described Dokubo-Asari’s stataement as no threat, but a statement to canvass the need for the President’s critics to allow him (Jonathan) run for two tenures in office.

“We will go back to the creeks if the 2015 presidential election is manipulated to scheme out President Goodluck Jonathan. But if the election is not manipulated, and Jonathan loses out, we would see it as the handiwork of God,” Ombi stressed.

The former militant leader claimed that some politicians, especially those from the North, were using Boko Haram to intimidate Jonathan out of the 2015 presidential election.

“They have been sending Boko Haram to harass and intimidate President Jonathan so that he will withdraw from the 2015 presidential race. Asari’s comment was not a threat; he (Dokubo-Asari) just wanted Nigerians to know that there is a need for Jonathan to go for two tenures,” the ex-fighter emphasised.

In his remark, ANND President, Mr. Kenneth West, cautioned Kuku and Dokubo-Asari against making inflamatory statements but warned against any move to arrest them over their comments on the 2015 general election.

West said some well-known political leaders in the northern part of the country had made similar comments in the past without anybody suggesting that they should be arrested.

He alleged that the corruption began in the North and wondered why nobody raised any dust on corruption when the northerners were in control of government.

“Asari only warned that in 2015, if Jonathan is not elected President, Nigeria will not be one. He was only warning; he was not threatening. If we are talking about corruption, it started from the North,” he said.

I pity anybody that would take up arms and go into the creeks, Just one air raid and them go take down their camps. It would take the international community two weeks to arrange a no-fly zone. Can NDVF or MEND withstand an air raid for up to 3days? They should learn from Lybia and be smart about these threats flying around the place.

The arrogance of these SS people is unbecoming! They accuse the North of arrogance, yet they exhibit it at every turn. They make me sick!

GEJ is afraid and is mobilising his Ccriminal brothers back to the creek. The South south should bring a capable hand for the President but not a clueless GEJ. I don't care where the President is from. My concern is that I want good and capable governance

oshyno: I was just discusing wit a colleague in office n he said GEJ has messed dis country up such dat anybody can just make inflamatery statement without being questioned by SSS. I told him there is no way u can arrest Asari Dokubo for instance wen Kaita has made similer remark yet he wasn't arrested. Buhari, Atiku too all made treeatening statements yet they were nt arrested. GEJ probably didn't want t arrest dem then bcuz that wud av heat up d polity . One thing is clear here, North can't stand being out of power 4 soo long . They hv reached their boiling point n GEJ is just tryn to manage d situation soo it won't brake up d country.
North (i.e. the political elite of the North) can't stand being out of power but they would never relinquish power to the likes of Buhari and Atiku. They detest these two who are Northerners like they are!!

So Amnesty came from Northerner abi Let's learn to put discuss objectively. The Leaders of South South brought Amnesty and Yaradua agreed to that term. Now, a Niger Deltan is the Number one man, where are the leaders in the North? Have they stood up to be counted? They are rather crying for 2015 while the whole region go into ruins for all they care.
Go and listen to the Interview granted by President Bush Jnr on the commemoration of September 11 anniversary in 2011. He gave details on what it means to be a War time President. That you are even seeing rail roads completed, Privatization of Power Sector among many other strides is a confirmation that GEJ is a Manager.

We are where we are today because the likes of IBB, OBJ and Co have for long used "power" to bottle up agitations in the country and it is simply bursting out and now been managed by a GEJ (no be easy thing)

OBJ was in the process of acquiring warships to wipe the Niger Delta of all MENDish parasites...
But along came traitor Atiku who leaked the plan to the press to gain sympathy from the SS for his political ambitions.

If not for Atiku.... Any miscreant would have preferred to terrorise other neighbouring countries not Nigeria.

Do you understand yourself? If Libya and even Syria with better armed forces couldn't defeat rebels what made you think that Nigeria can? And who told you which side the international community would be supporting?

So long as we ignore calls for a national conference, we 're just waiting for the evil day.

Nothing short of a Sovereign National Conference (or a revolutionary coup d'etat) can solve Nigeria's problems with minimal chaos.

. How can these terrorists be talking free and fair election when the only winner acceptable to them is gej. They already kno that gej cannot win so they are preparing for violence - voters wont give a damn to their threat. This time around they should know that the violence will consume them all - s/he who preaches violence ......

The Rebels in this case(MEND and NDVF)do they have mercenaries to plan the rebellion for them? Do they have anti-aircraft weaponry? Or you don't understand what a no-fly-zone is? Didn't you see Libyans begging the international community to come and implement a no-fly-zone? Do you think the rebels would have won that war if the no-fly-zone was not implemented on time? Forget sentiments oh, how many Niger deltans are willing to take up arms? or you think a group of fighters with no real military training armed with talisman and Ak-47 not even up to 10,000 in number can stand the Nigerian Army?

There are rules of engagement my brother.Lets say a Northerner win 2015 and then MEND hoist a flag and declares say "The United States of the NigerDelta" .Then, the military can decide to stamp them out as miscreants trying to undermine the sovereignty of Nigeria. Look at Mali, the government and not the rebels are getting the backing of the international community. I believe the international community do not recognise MEND as a pressure group, they may even up tagging them terrorists going by their kidnapping history.

There is news making rounds about the (lack of) willingness of the present Gov't to quell the BH menace.

You can read here so we don't derail the thread.

I won't want to dwell on this but if you do a careful analysis you 'll realise that these guys hold the upper hand with access to the sea and source of income they don't even need advertised for mercenaries if they even need them.
If you 're from there, I promise you won't hesitate joining them.

... Most times I wonder whether we have really place ourselves in the shoes of the Niger-deltans.

...what would be the state of Nigeria today if the oil wells were in western or northern Nigeria?

Until a time when this question is answered honestly, peace in that region may remain elusive.
