I agree justwise. I think the questions had both element of generalization and private. I think the general ones could be asked and addressed here. Let’s keep the thread alive.

Sorry guys...

This was my question...

Could you recommend any of these smaller and safe cities that you can recommend please? And also hospitals maybe..

Will be highly appreciated.

Thanks alot.

Thanks. It all depends on many factors. Do you want to give birth in Brazil and leave immediately? Meaning you have very little time or you want to give birth, stay immediately and look for opportunities?

If you have very little time then please target the state capitals with the exception of Rio, São Paulo and Salvador. Any other state capital should be fine. (You will find the list of state capitals online). The reason why I recommend state capitals is because all the paperwork are done there and you will save some time by being at the capital instead of cities around. I took Rio, São Paulo and Salvador off the list because they are very populated and administration can be very slow.

If you have time or want to stay after birth then you have a wide variety of cities to choose. Unfortunately, you will have to do the research for a city that suits your taste. Trust me, with over 500 cities to choose, you will get one that suits your taste. If you ask for my personal taste then i will go for cities like Blumenau, Joinville or Curitiba for being one of the safest in Brazil in my opinion.

Unfortunately I cannot recommend hospitals since i know and gave birth in only one but most private hospitals in Brazil are of high quality so you can go basically anywhere. Public hospitals can be nice or average depending on the city. For public hospitals, target less crowded cities like Curitiba or Florianópolis.

Bless

I met a Brazilian lady in Russia who told me that Brazil is very unsafe, poor economic conditions bla bla bla. Me I was very positive about my country towards her. I'm just so worried that insecurity has been highlighted about that county in and out. I am planning on having Brazilian kids because of the obvious benefits but this chorusing of insecurity about a country really worries me

Every country is safe and unsafe depending on how you want to look at it and on the person presenting it. If Brazil was that unsafe, why will the entire EU and Europe including Russia allow Brazilian citizens visa free entry? Well... it can’t be that bad. Even the USA has places that have some of the worst crime rates in the world. Hope she knows that. I also hope she knows that many Russian women travel to Brazil to give birth.

It’s all about perspective....

There is insecurity everywhere, and most people from anywhere around the world can tell you how dangerous some areas of any city can be... now I am 100% sure that person was a white Brazilian. Most I Meet around the world say the same thing.....Brazil is very very dangerous and there is NO racism in Brazil, lol what a big lie!!!

Now yes, some areas are no go zones, but they are just pocket places in any cities, and so long as you don't go wandering where you shouldn't, it's all good, and you should just use common sense... Like anywhere else.

Bro/Sis, I cannot make such decision for you, YOU have to go to Brazil, travel and discover places that may tickle your fancy, and take that decision based on YOUR preferences and YOUR criteria. in most cities you can easily give birth and the difference will depend on what YOU want and YOUR budget.

Me I love Brasil. And especially Rio (lived close to 5yrs there), I love living in Favelas, i love partying and meeting people in favelas, I always felt more comfortable living in favelas, and when you get to know the locals etc, it's perfect (for me), I love that adventurous aspect of life....I have always been more comfortable living in such environment in Brasil, than any other. My main choices from the get go was Rio and Floripa, and after being a short while in Florianopolis, although it is a great city, it's just too boring, too cold in winter, too bland for me....and to make matters worse, in summer the city is booming and in winter the city is dead.

So find your own niche, it's not expensive to travel in Brazil, take low cost airline and discover it all OR do it by bus (although much longer), but if you just want to give birth and leave then don't bother and just to go whatever destination in Brasil is best from where you are, et voila!

Hello Adjo10,

Thank you for your support on this thread so far, God bless you. I am planning to do my application this month, I know that they typically grant 90 days visa for which you can extend your stay for another 90 days but I’ve seen them grant some people just 30 days starting from date of issue. I’m hoping that is not the case for me because I want to be able to stay and get my antenatal care till my baby comes in Nov. My question is if granted 30 days Visa, can I still stay foy for that long? Is there a possibility of visa renewal while there? Thank you.

Hey Ajokeomo,

I pray for God’s guidance in making your application successful.

First of all note that, your immigration status doesn’t affect your baby’s nationality in any way. So wether you overstay your visa or not, so far as your baby is born in Brazil, he or she is Brazilian.

Secondly, most Brazilian visas are extendable in Brazil except those who have visa free entry to Brazil. Unless your visa explicitly states that it cannot be extended, you can easily extend it in Brazil.

Even if it states that it cannot be extended, you can still overstay and pay the overstay penalty of Rs 100 ($25) per day for a maximum of 100 days.

My advice will be not to worry. The most important thing is to get in. Even if you have a 2 day visa, it is still possible to stay and give birth.

Thanks. Sorry to hear that the US did not work out. With Brazil, your previous child will be covered as well so Brazil is a good option at this stage.

Firstly i did not apply for a visa in Nigeria however, all Brazilian visa applications are standard with maybe minor changes. In general Brazilian visa requirements are similar to that of the US. For a more accurate list of documents, i will advise you to check the website of the Brazilian embassy in Lagos and Abuja. Please do not inform them that you intent to come and give birth here. Just come on tourism. For that you will most likely need the following:

1. A filled visa application form which should be available at the embassy’s website.

2. An invitation letter or a hotel booking. I went with the hotel booking option. You don’t need to pay the hotel until you arrive.

3. Your bank account statement

4. An e-booking. Please do not buy the ticket. Just a booking to give them an idea of the number of days you intend staying in Brazil.

That is all we needed but again it depends from country to country.

For the interview, just take along a list of places you want to visit and activities you would like to do.

Very important: Please apply for your visa early whiles your stomach is not showing. Brazilian visa is very relaxed unlike other countries. Your visa will be valid for one year starting from the day it was issued. Within this one year of validity, you can stay in Brazil for only 180 days at a time. 90 days and then 90 days extension. So you can have your visa way ahead and decide to travel anytime within the 1 year.

To your second question... I did not live in Florianópolis however here is a general rule of thumb: Brazil is a tourism country meaning it has high seasons where you have lots of tourists thus from November to March. In a city like Florianopolis you should expect to pay around 600- 1200 USD per month for a one bedroom apartment with AC for the 3 of you. The 600 USD are still very good apartments.

In other months not mentioned here that is the low season. In Florianópolis, you should expect to pay around half of the high season.

I hope i have answered your questions. Please feel free to ask more. Thanks

Excellent!

Like how much should one have in his account to be confident in applying for the Visa?

You are wrong about the penalty of overstay, it is not 100 reais, it's 800 reais before or less but now it has been changed to 10,000 reais that's almost a million naira.

It will be on your CPF number, and I know many Nigerians that is living with the 800 reais and they don't have any problem with it.

The only way to change your status is to give birth or married a Brazilian before your visa expires or you claim asylum. If you claim asylum they will give you one year stay, we call it protocol and if you give birth, both parent get 10 years residence permit or permanent residence which they call RNE and the baby will get a Brazilian Passport.

Hey Adigu,

Thanks for your comment. I however think we should inform everyone on this platform with facts and not jump to condemn information.

A new immigration law was introduced in Brazil in late 2017. It changed many things including the fines for overstaying from Rs 8 a day to Rs 100 a day for a maximum of 100 days. Obviously, your information is based on the old law and a quick online search which will still be quoting the old fines. Many immigration laws in Brazil can be unclear due to the changes. I am speaking from the new law and experience so i will not say you are wrong. I will simply say your information is outdated but thanks.

Like you said, the total fine should be a maximum of 10,000 which comes back to what i said, Rs 100 per day for a maximum of 100 days. 100 times 100 is Rs 10,000. So i guess we are all saying the same.

Let all note that if you overstay, you will be asked by the police federal to pay the fines while applying for the permanent residence. The fine will not be ignored. I don’t know about asylum application but for permanent residence application based on a Brazilian child, you will pay.

Thanks

Yes, if they are above 5 years they will get the RNE (Permanent Residence) but 5 years below will get Naturalize (Brazil Passport)

Note - Delivery is free in Brazil to any kind or form of Delivery, IT IS TOTAL FREE OF CHARGE

And education is free as well to any level, even to superior (University level)

I attended two different free language schools and they still pay me the transport to go to school

Oh Brazil.... Uma Pais Para Tudo

I love Brazil grin

Marrying a Brazilian is the same rule as giving birth to a Brazilian child. You get the permanent residence on the same day you apply if all your documents are in order. You are given a document called protocol which states that you are a permanent resident. The physical card comes in about 3 months after your application.

It is not everyone that pay that muta (fine) many got away with it. I know many that got their RNE and now have Brazil Passport and still never pay that fine so it depends.

Bro, all this has changed lol... If you marry a Brazilian in Sao Paulo now, it will take almost 6 month before your RNE arrive.

Things has changed and Brazil eyes don dey open now.

Well, maybe you are talking about other states, because many people travel to other states to do their documents due to rush in Sao Paulo
