I = V/R= 12/(5+20) = 0.48A

V=IR = 5 * 0.48 = 2.4v

Voltmeter reading = (12 - 2.4)v = 9.6v

Backcheck:
I = V/R= 12/(5+20) = 0.48A

V=IR = 5 * 0.48 = 2.4v

Voltmeter reading = (12 - 2.4)v = 9.6v

Vm = V1 × { R2Rm/(R2Rm + R1(R2 + Rm)) }
Rm is the resistance of the meter

V1 = 12 V
R2 = 20 mΩ = 0.02 Ω
R1 = 5 mΩ = 0.005 Ω
Rm = 5 mΩ = 0.005 Ω

Vm= 12 V × {(0.02 Ω × 0.005 Ω)/(0.02 Ω × 0.005 Ω) + 0.005 Ω (0.02 Ω + 0.005 Ω)

Vm = 12 V × {0.0001/0.0001 + 0.000125)
Vm = 12 V × {0.0001/0.000225}
Vm = 12V × 0.444
Vm = 5.33 V

bro! The internal resistor of the meter is in parallel with the 5ohm resistor,so u calculate the total resistor first and then use voltage divider rule to measure output voltage across 5ohm resistor since the meter was placed across it.....note you can labell 20ohm resistor as R1 and R total as R2....i stop here!
