Android Browsers VS Lightweight Web Browsers - Which Is The Best To Install? by Olaniyyi(m): 11:16pm On May 05, 2022
Having a good browser on your smartphone will help you get the best web experience. Over the years technology have advanced and gave birth to new industries. The Android OS for instance now has a lightweight version (Android Go) that Google recommends to be installed on low specs devices. This has also brought about many Android apps having a smaller sized version (lite apps) optimized to run smoothly on Android Go devices.

Running heavy apps on Android go devices has a huge impact on the performance and that would not be great for someone who also wants the same standard Android experience but is on a budget. The best way to get the best out of low-end devices (Android Go devices) is by installing the lite version of the apps they want to install. Although not all the apps on the Google Play Store have a lite version, all the popular apps that you’re likely to use day to day already have a lite version.

Some of the apps includes, Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, Twitter, Quora, Spotify and many more. You’ll also find lite versions of popular games like PUBG and others. Like I said, heavy apps are one of the reasons why you’ll experience lag in a budget phone and web browsers are no exception. Chrome is one of the fastest web browsers for Android but it uses a lot of resources like storage space, ram, and data to deliver the best web experience to the users. While this is great browser to install on any device it comes with performance cost for low specs devices. Other browsers you'll likely experience the same with includes edge, Firefox, brave, Tor browser and other popular browsers.

High-end and mid-range devices will mostly not have a problem running heavy apps because they have the hardware and software power to utilize. Low-end smartphones on the other hand will get hiccups from these apps. To enjoy a better browsing or web experience, installing a lite web browser is the best option and there are a lot to choose from. Also, if you’re considering the amount of data the standard Android web browsers on your mid-range or high-end device and would pike to reduce data consumption, you can as well install a lightweight web browser.

Difference Between Android Browsers And Lightweight Web Browsers

There’s no denying that Android browsers are fast, however, they consume a lot of device resource to deliver this amazing web experience. Android browsers consumes data, this is because these browsers loads every elements on a page which includes ads and they don’t perform well on poor network connection. Android browsers also takes a bit of storage space and are memory hungry (RAM). Some Android browsers allows you to install extension to help make your web experience seamless and many other feature. One thing most Android browsers do lack is a good internet download manager to help organize your downloads.

Lightweight Android browsers on the other hand addresses most of these issues. Unlike Android browsers, lite web browsers are relatively small in size, some are not even up to 1MB and they don’t store caches like Android browsers do. Lightweight browsers run fast even on slow connections since they don’t necessarily have to load all the elements on a page. Lite browser also use less memory and some of the ones I have tried have a great download manager built-in. Some even com with video downloaders that let’s you download YouTube videos, Facebook, Instagram, and from other websites easily. Lite web browsers are privacy-focused browsers too and don’t serve ads unless you allow it.

With that said, let’s take a look at some of the best web browsers you can install on your Android device whether budget or premium.

Best Web Browser For Android Devices

There are tons of web browsers in the Google Play Store, but for the sake of this post, I’ll be listing the top 5 that you can install on high-end, mid-range and low-end smartphones.

Android Browsers

• Google Chrome
• Brave
• Microsoft Edge
• Firefox
• Opera

Lightweight Browsers

• Via
• Duckduckgo
• Operamini
• Stargon
• Lightning web

Conclusion

Both Android browsers and lightweight browsers are great and the only difference is that lite web browsers are much faster because they are small in size and only load the necessary web elements required to fetch the information on a page. So, if you have a low-end (Android Go) device, lightweight web browsers will give you the best web experience while also cutting down the rate of data consumption.
