I am currently in NIMC Hell We applied for renewal of our International Passports in September 2022. We went for Capture in October 2022. I had an issue with my name. It turns out that, in NIS, my first name is my fathers name. So I had to go to NIMC to change my NIN information (actually swap my first name with my middle name). Two weeks later, my new NIN was issued by NIMC. Since November 2022, NIMC is is suppose to update the NIS database so that my International Passport can be produced since it now matches. Nothing. That is NIMC Hell I asked a friend to help influence it. Nothing. The rest of the family got their Passports in January 2023 (over 10 Weeks later) . When I was collecting their passports in February 2023, I asked around and found out that the huge backlog of Passports seem to have been cleared by NIS (Gwagwalada Office) and it now takes 6 weeks to get the passport after capture. This is good news for anyone desiring to get the new International passports. I am taking it easy. Doing my research. Keeping up to date. Updating my Trip Preparation list with new info. That is what I advise everyone here to do. |

Tried going to Dakar to apply, but you need citizenship (or residency, I’m not sure) to use their embassy. Why has the Abuja embassy refused to work? What exactly is their problem?

Re: Portugal Job Seekers Visa by oluomo101(m): 1:14pm On Feb 21, 2023 |
Zihno: Imagine Dakar refusing other countries to use their embassy and Portugal embassy in Abuja allow other countries but Portugal embarrassed in Abuja has refused to open. What's really going on with them? |
Re: Portugal Job Seekers Visa by Zihno: 1:17pm On Feb 21, 2023 |
oluomo101: Dakar embassy allow other countries within their jurisdiction to use their embassy. Same as the Abuja embassy. It’s just that Nigeria isn’t part of their jurisdiction |

From my research: The Portuguese don't joke with their holidays. From early December till Mid January, they will return to Portugal for the end of year holidays. Then in August till mid September another home coming for the summer holidays. During those periods, the Embassies will be "closed". I plan to work around their holiday periods. It seems the Nigerian Embassy is not in a hurry to even start issuing Visa this year. It's February and they are still booting-up. I stand to be corrected but I don't think even 1 Job-Seeker Visa has been approved from Nigeria. |

Re: Portugal Job Seekers Visa by c00la(m): 2:39pm On Feb 22, 2023 |
oluomo101: Even if the Embassy re-opens today, I still think it will take a minimum of 2 months (with a lot of luck and thousands of Euros) for me to get ready to submit my application. I will post the "hurdles" that I forsee in a future post. Maybe that will help... |
Re: Portugal Job Seekers Visa by c00la(m): 4:31pm On Feb 22, 2023 |
The "Hurdles" post I promised. Easy Stuff: Forms to be filled. National visa application form; 2 identical photographs, Passport or other travel document, valid for more than three months after the expected date of return. Valid travel insurance, ; Request for consultation of the Portuguese criminal record Enrolment in the IEFP Authentication of Documents at Ministry of Foreign Affairs Medium Hurdles: Takes 1-3 days and to be done once you have a date you want to submit to the Embassy. Criminal record certificate (+ Authentication at Ministry of Foreign Affairs ) Air ticket reservation; Bank Statement Proof of the availability of financial resources in the amount of at least three times the value of the guaranteed minimum monthly remuneration. (2280 euros or equivalent/ in a Bank Statement) Tough Hurdle: Proof of Accommodation. The Embassy may or may not accept AirBnB reservation. If they do, that will be great. It becomes a medium hurdle. You pay for a reservation 60 + 15 days after your submission date and submit the booking. If the Embassy refuses AirBnB, you may have to 1) Find an accommodation 2) Pay for 3 to 6 months rent 3) AND the transaction must be registered with the Finance Department in Portugal 4) The rent contract must have your name(s) on it. 5) Submit the rent contract with your accommodation Single guys can get a T0 or Studio apartment but we family guys have to get a T1 or T2. House rent in Lisboa are through the roof: getting anything for 800 to 1,000 euros per month is hard. But there are other areas below the Targus river that are cheaper. To solve this hurdle, I may have no option but to find and pay a Consultant in Portugal. That is another added cost. They will have to get the house and represent me in dealing with the landlord. Then send the house contract. Until I have a house contract in hand, I can’t submit any application at the Embassy. (I am not even sure if I will need a NIF or Portuguese Bank account in order to get the Rent contract done.) Some Consulates (in Brazil) accepted AirBnB for 15 days last year. Some don’t. All the above is from my research. Even if the Embassy accepts AirBnB, I will still save money by renting for 3-6 months because the prices on AirBnB are high in my opinion. Also, I am there to get a job, not to start another round of house hunting after my AirBnB 15 days expires! Most of my information comes from the weekly Youtube show/discussion/webinar by Expats Portugal. Search for “Migration Tuesday”. It’s done on Tuesday night and I watch on later in the week. I may be wrong in some of my conclusions, so take all the above with a pinch of salt. 5 Likes 1 Share |
