Jobs are highly underrated and the workforce here in Nigeria are seriously underpaid xcept for those in multinational companies were it seems a bit much better...there is no structure for the way workers are treated here.

Guys please help me judge this case.my Brother studied Geology and he came out with 4.23 CGP and his departmental colleague also with 4.22 CGP but last month they wrote exonmobil appt test and can you imagine their names didn't come out,these are ppl that were on scholarship right from the leve 1@school till they graduate,the worst is that mobil is just near my LGA,eket,we saw the list of successful candidates and it was replete with yoruba names, perhaps with brains and even against the backdrop of the fact that the backyard is where the oil is flowing,these guys are so brilliant and i wonder why their names were not there,after they will say people are angry,is this not a case of sheer injustice atleast they came from the exact area where oil is been drilled,they should have been picked.am so pissed when i went back to eket to find out,

Sorry about what happened to ur brother. But most of this exams are quite different from school exams. My sister finished with 4.48 and she failed Access Bank test. My guy finished with 3.75 and he passed the test.
My friend again finished with First Class In Accounting and she failed GMAT (350/800).

Tell your brother to try again. I am so sorry

after looking for job for so long and can get one, then one should know that he/she is expected to start a job of his/her own dat other people will be looking for.

I'm a graduate of Economics without Job for about a year now{after NYSC}. I graduated with a very good second class upper and i can do a lot of things with the computer, I have written about 4 Job tests, which most of them were very easy i must say but at the end, some of the companies send SMS that i dint qualify for the next stage and some I just wont hear from at all. My major point here is i'm not that dull to fail all 4 tests because i read daily and currently i'm tutoring some bankers on some cutomer care lessons and i don't even have an opportunity to work as one in any organisation. I also have a friend who is a computer science graduate and he can't even minimise a window on the system buh he got a goood job with an ict firm,meanwhile the other friend that can build a laptop from the scratch has still not gotten a job and he applied to the same ict firm. What do we say is the reason behind all these?

Do you know that d average human resource staff only spends about 30 seconds on a cv? so my only advice is if there's anything you need to do to your cv to make him spend an extra 30 seconds , DO ITT!!!

I will advise you to keep trying and never lose faith on yourself and the system. The fact that you had a good grade or you felt you did well in the aptitude test does not guarantee success in the tests. Reason? Simple - because job tests are competitive in nature and many atimes a benchmark is set based on the general performance. So keep on improving on yourself and continue the job search. A way will be opened soon.
Let's now talk about the cases of your 'average' friends with job. Life is sometimes not fair. Sometimes, there are factors of luck, time (being at the right place at the right time), connection, chance and soft skills (attitude) in getting a job. I also know a few people in that category too, but sincerely, they are in the minority. Such aforementioned factors may atimes get you a job, but can't sustain continuous performance. You should rather be bothered about continuous self improvement.

It's tough to get jobs in this country. However, I think major problems are candidates applying for jobs simply do not follow the instruction given to them on how to apply for a job, their preparations are generally sloppy and "selling" themselves is a chore.
But in your case, I suspect nepotism and this can take different forms. They either had someone in mind before and decided to throw it open to other people to make the process look legit or someone somewhere knows someone who got them the job (if you know what I mean).Also I have to wonder how effective some so-called recruitment processes are. Do these employers really know what to test and how to test?

It's just that the competition is getting stiffer and those on the disadvantaged side (which is the majority) feel the 'lucky' ones got the jobs because of connection. For instance, it could be intimidating for an applicant to compete for a job vacancy amongst tens or hundreds of thousands of other applicants when the number of vacant slots is less than 20. This happens a lot in Nigeria. I am not ruling out the fact that people get jobs based on referrals.
