How come Fulani, control all your states? are Hausa not interested in politic? Do you guys fear fulani?

Also why is that the fulani ,despite controlling and influencing others ethnicities politically and culturally esp up north don't impose their language? (This is my observation, maybe I'm wrong)

Also what is the widely spoken language in the North? Fufulde or Hausa?

PAGAN or whatever you call your name, the pictures are amazing, but you are just trying to show people that hausas were pagans before danfodios invasion. You are just pathetic. Nice try bro

Malawian: so what are you guys doing about it? i mean dan fodians.

what do you mean by dan fodians? there descendants? what can we do about it? Most of the important Emirates (former Sarkindoms) are ruled by Fulanis. we could do something about it. Maybe relocate it or make Sarkin Daura, Argungu, SUleja/Abuja/Zazzau-Zaria, etc. the Chief rulers and restore the original Hausa Bakwai, if not part of it.

right now, we are doing nothing about it.

They won most of the wars so today they control most of the states.

We are. There are Hausa politicians. If you are talking about Trad. Rulers, most of them were deposed, relocated, exiled, by the invading Fulani.

No we dont. nothing like that. they just conquered us. also islam has brainwashed us.

That is because they have certainly adopted the Language inorder to legitimize their rule over Hausaland. Laguage is ofcourse the defining factor. But in other areas, they have FUlanized/Arabized and islamized us. remember the Adamawa example I gave you? How the smaller tribes such as MArghyii , etc., are today Fulanized by them. that is how they operate, these Fulani city-dwellers.

It is certainly Hausa. but as you go towards the border areas, Adamawa and further up North, Fulfulde is spoken.

Hausa people were conquered politically, but conquered the Fulani linguistically.

Yes I was just about to start the posts on food.

about Suya, I know many will kill me for this, but I dont think it is an original Hausa food. I might be wrong though.

Suya seems to be a dish popular across the muslim world (similar to the Kebabs of the middle-east or Satay in Malaysia and Indonesia, or Agbesha in Sudan).

IT is sortof like streetside food. It is easy to cook on clay ovens or charcoal grills.

I have explained the ethnicity part. i have a feeling its originally Arab. I maybe wrong though. In Nigeria, it is specific to us Hausa.

that's true. I even realized that others minorities tend to speak Hausa when they don't speak their languages, maybe people don't fancy fufulde that much or Hausa has more speakers hence is influence.

@Pagan how exactly did the fulani influence you? I mean did you dress differently before the conquests? Beside islam, what did they add to the average Hausa man?

Hausa does seem to be very influencing, especially to monority groups. That is the power of the Hausa language.

Apart from religion and names, the clothing style is one of importance. Hausa farmers used to be generally less clothed. Also the Turban styles, etc. What else, entertainment was suppresed, Tribal markings were less common, dances and songs were dicoontinued, etc.

I would say it was more of islamization, come to think of it. Because these city Fuulbe have also los most of their Fulani culture, that still stays strong among the Woodabe/Mbororo.

You raised a good a point, it is true that people always think fulani culture has always been the way it is now.

Okay we know fulani conquered you, but who conquered them? Or they embraced Islam and "arabisation" without fighting?

The thing is that many Nigerians generalize, they don't even realize that majority of Boko Haram isn't Hausa or Fulani but Kanuri. Most Southern Nigerians could care less, to them Hausa, Fulani, Touareg, Kanuri are all the same. That is pure naivety.

My brother, there's a lot of naivety about other tribes/cultures; i think all regions in the country are guilty of it.
Thats why i feel this thread is one of the deepest i have ever seen on nairaland.

I also think we should have much more threads like this; it will go a long way in promoting understanding and tolerance.

oh and btw dont forget the impact on foods. foods such as Fura da Nono (Fulani milk-yoghurt commonly sold to Hausa farmers after a hard days work at the fields), is actually FULANI in origin not Hausa. Nono is a Hausa word for the FUlani milk - Kosan.

Well to answer that, we must first go back to the Arab Invasion of the Maghreb and the establishment of the Fatimid caliphate. once the Arabs had invaded (and destroyed) Egypt, they set forth to the Berber lands. After defeating the Berbers, enslaving many of them, etc., they established a permanent seat there. From there they later invaded SPain.

Now islam being a religion mostly spread by the desert Bedu Tribal Arabs, it was easily appeaing to the simplistic Nomadic tribes such as the Tuareg, The Fulani, and other desert dwelling tribes. The scholars from the fatimid state such as al-maghilli, etc., were then sent as missionaries to these tribes to brainwassh and convert them.

The Fulani and other Nomadic tribes also travelled large areas across the SAhel so they met different peoples and merchants and missionaries of all sorts.

However it must be noted that Nomadic FUlani never fully accepted islam even now. IT is those who settled who got converted, due to shariaa implementation, opening of madrassahs, etc.

They first came in contact with Islam as early as the 1500's, but the majority were not Muslim until the 1800's. Amaadu Lobbo Bari helped the chief Usumane Dan Fodio defeat the Hausa people in 1810. He then defeated the Pagan Fulani chiefs in 1818 and and took the title "Prince of the Believers". Then the Fulani converted in mass to Islam. His influence grew and encompassed the whole area of the Fulani people. MAny FUlani Nomads joined Usmane Dan FOdios campaign mainly for the loot and pillage and once they were satisfied , they returned back to their old ways, traversing the Sahel.

dan fodio obviously had personal gains as well. he wanted to rule Sokoto, the sea of the Hausa Empire and install his sons in various high positions.

If you mean what I know , then don't worry.

What's your relations with kanuri?

Also were Hausa the first victim of the fulani JIHAD?,or others ethnicities had been islamized before you, what I'm trying to know is if the the Hausa participated in the JIHAD that expelled my people from their original land.

Come to think why is that Hausa didn't leave their original land instead of being islamized(fulanized) , I mean you people were enough powerful and numerous to occupy another land(actual states). My people did that we lost but refused to b fulanized
