Engineers Getting A Masters When They Already Have A Job In Oil N Gas Sector by NaYam(m): 3:26pm On Jan 08, 2008
Hello, Guys and Ladies I have an issue.
If one has already got a job in a very well established Oil and Gas Company (and has 2 years experience n counting on the job), is it advisable for him to get a Masters Degree or should he still work in the company to get more experience.

Bottom line, which is more lucrative down the road.
1) Getting a Masters degree (might mean quitting(or part-timing) the job for the duration of the Masters)
2) Continuing with the Job and earning(gaining) more experience.

I need your 2cents because i'm in a quandary.

Well I believe at times i order for u 2 move to d next level u have 2 stoop a bit. However, it all depends on what u have as ur focus. If u are comfortable enough (moneywise) to work Part time and school, I think it's a wise choice. For some other folk who may not be comfortable enough to sustain himself for d "rainy day", some more yrs of work may do d magic. But let me assure u with a Masters degree, u are a HOTTER cake coupled with ur experience. U can never regret dat decsion as far as I am concerned. so in summary if u can endure, go for it, while holding in 2 ur job Part time. cool

Well, the problem is that when u r working, u think u have enuf money to pay for ur school.when u STOP working, its a whole different ball game. Bills to pay etc.
I need to have a job in other to afford a masters. A part time would be stretching it to the very limit.
Is it worth it?

GUY,

Go abroad and have a masters, if you have admission already quit your job, you already have experience in a multinational firm and when u combine that with a foriegn masters wait and see the result, since u have the money go to a good school, If I were you that is what I will do.

@nA Yam,
it might be best for you to clarify your personal career and educational goals b4 u make a decision;u dont have to be confused about what to do with urself.I personally know i'm not keen on a masters's degree (foreign or otherwise) because i dont see d use of it.DOnt let ur idea for getting a masters degree be hinged on other pple getting their's.U have 2 decide wether a masters will boost ur career and if its in line with wat u want.If its what u REALLY want then u can save up towards it or better still work on a scholarship(full/part) of which there are many out there.Dont let ur inability to pay ur way thru school stop ur decision to get a masters.
