horpeyemmi66: Hi horpeyemmi66, I'll advise that you take the Physiology seriously. You are in your penultimate year meaning you have one more year to go therefore, focus on it so you'd graduate with a stellar grade. If eventually you get Dentistry, you'd still have your Physiology degree secured. Coming to UTME, you can devote some of your time to preparing for it. By now, I believe it should be easier and faster for you to study for UTME considering your knowledge base. However, prepare studiously for it so you'd have a very high score which will put you in a favourable position you to be admitted for Dentistry at ABU. 1 Like |

Doneze:Since you have made up your mind to get MBBS, you can combine it with your optometry practise. All you need do is to ensure that you don't lag behind in your studies. It's possible if you are wise and diligent. |

Doneze:Good... Na now u come through my guy. Ok, first of all, ur passion is still very strong having gone through the stress of finishing optometry. if i am correct, this is applaudable and with such passion, i think u'll do very well. Now, combining medicine with ur practise, well, i cant say how good or not it is. to me, i feel u should check urself if you can handle both. My advise, let ur practice be handled by someone else while u focus more on acing ur 2nd MB if eventually u get in. I dont know what u were tought and how much of anatomy, physiology and biochemistry knowledege u have, i would have concluded on wether or not u can handle both. Iam a BDS student and i can tell u, it is not easy. |

horpeyemmi66: Fight for dentistry with your life bro... The cutoff is not up to 300 as at now in my school, last years cut off was 294-297 or so, so u have the chance before buhari release sense to nigerians the nxt 4yrs. Hold ur physio tight anyway, it is a nice course too buh then, study for jamb to score high regardless. Dentistry is like the engineering in the branch of medicine Wen u see me rock my p-cap, jean and my pierced ear, u will concur... The art is it.. So, welcome in advance. (dont plan to come and dress spiro-coco, spiro-coco dressing is for our colleagues in medicine , i see them laughing. in this field. We drill only.) Good evening all. I'm a final year student of Physiology, and after my graduation I wanna apply for direct entry to study medicine, is it a must that I go for NYSC before I can apply for direct entry? And if I intend to study medicine abroad what are the requirements? |
Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by harrychuksx(m): 11:37am On Mar 03, 2019 |
Jahswill001: Sure... one of the major requirements to getting medicine in most Nigeria Universities via DE is an NYSC discharged certificate and having a second class upper will be an added advantage. about studying medicine abroad, I think you can get a better info online or the "seniors" here can help. Congrats on your finals! |
Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by Nobody: 12:55pm On Mar 03, 2019 |
Jahswill001:Depends on the school you want to apply to but most schools ask for Nysc discharge certificate. (UI, OOU, OAU and the likes) |
Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by horpeyemmi66(m): 1:33pm On Mar 03, 2019 |
Jahswill001:Baba, I'd advise you study your Medicine here in Nigeria. In most instances after studies abroad you'd be coming home to practice and since you have a foreign degree, you'd have to write the Nigerian Medical and Dental Licensing Exam. This is an exam which only a few foreign trained physicians pass(and I believe it was intentionally made tougher)... Some have had to bribe their way through (Nigerian Factor). Just my candid thought. What University are you studying at? , I'm a 300L Physiology Student of the COM_University of Ibadan. 2 Likes |

horpeyemmi66:Very good advice. But if you have the fund to study in USA, Canada, Australia, UK, New Zealand, then go for it. At least you can practice there after graduation, and earn living. But Ukraine, Romania, Belarus, China, the islands etc. Just stay back and invest the money into business... Medical education in Nigeria is almost free and the standard is fairly good, at least there hundreds of Nigerians going abroad to practice every year, and they are doing great... 1 Like |

Jahswill001:Which school are you in? |
Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by Dvd4: 6:17pm On Mar 03, 2019 |
harrychuksx:Not absolutely true, some schools do not request for NYSC discharge cert. E.g UNIZIK. Some folks who get in 200L via D.E are currently "ghost-serving". |

Dvd4:Long 'tory o my Brother... Largely incessant strikes and a slow calender 2016, Strike 1: 100L(Free Mote, circa 6 weeks); ASUU (1 week) Warning Strike... Mote happens to be a certain law finalist who got into trouble with the UI Student Disciplinary Committee. UI_SU protested on his behalf. The last I heard, Mote still faced the panel . I don't even know what that dude looked like. 2017, Strike 2: 200L, ASUU strike(Circa 1 month) 2018-2019, Strike 3: 300L, College of Medicine Students Strike, protest of hike in fees; ASUU strike(Circa 3 months) So you see my brother... What University are you studying at by the way? 1 Like |
