Please you people should help me ask rochas okorocha what he did with the 2.3bn he collected from Roche group for the lease of imo-palm plantation(formerly adapalm). Ask him why that company which is a self-sustained agro allied company and the only agro-allied company in imo state is at the verge of closure and shut down, and their staff owed a whooping 2 years salary arrears. Until he provides a answers to this questions, there would be no space for him at the Douglas house come 2015. Don't be deceived rochas is a big scam 2 Likes |

Following incessant reports and complaints against Roche Group of Companies, the Imo State House of Assembly has launched an investigation into the activities of the company in the last three years in the state. This came after hundreds of the workers of Imo Palm Plantation (Adapalm) besieged the state government house as well as the assembly complex in Owerri in protest against 21 months salary arrears and the inhuman treatment meted to them by Roche, which leads the management of the company. Roche is a company brought in the state by Governor Rochas Okorocha immediately after he became the governor of the state in 2011 with the company becoming a dominant contractor handling several meaningful projects in the state as well as the government leasing the multi-million naira Adapalm Oil Mill to the company for 20 years at an amount said to be N3.2billion. But in a call by the member representing Isiala Mbano State constituency, Simeon Iwunze, the Assembly unanimously authorized a four-man committee led by member for Ikeduru, Samuel Anyanwu to investigate the activities of the company for which the legislature had received several reports while some members of the assembly had been insulted as a result of the company’s actions and inactions. Iwunze had recalled how the protesting workers of Adapalm booed the member for Ohaji Egbema, Luke Chukwu, during their protest in the assembly complex, describing the act by the protesting workers as an insult to all the members of the legislature. During the protest that extended to the state government house, the protesting workers alleged that they were owed 21 months salary arrears. They accused the Okorocha –led government of intentionally harming the staff with the handing over of the company to Roche. The workers carried placards with inscriptions: “where is N3.2 billion from Roche?”, “we need our 21 months arrears in Adapalm”, “Owelle, are we not Imolites”, “Okorocha is owing us, pay us our severance packages in Adapalm”,etc. Speaking with journalists, the spokesman of the protesting workers, Rowlands Akpata, accused the governor and Roche group of refusing to pay the workers who had laboured for two years. He said that government and Roche were owing the staff three months arrears of salaries, 21 months arrears and severance and other benefits. He called on the governor to hasten to pay them before they would all die of hunger. 1 Like |

By Johnkennedy Uzoma Owerri — Workers of Adapalm, now Imo Palm Plantation, have staged a protest over 21 months' unpaid salaries. The company is located at Ohaji in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State. Our correspondent reports that the workers marched through the streets to the Government House to register their grievances, but nobody attended to them. Addressing newsmen, leader of the protest and South-east zonal coordinator of Agriculture and Allied Employees Union of Nigeria, Comrade Rowland Akpata, expressed regrets that the governor and management of the company have refused to pay the workers. Apkata flayed the government for abandoning the memo-randum of understanding earlier signed with staff of the company. He pleaded with Governor Rochas Okorocha and Roche Company, which is managing the oil palm, to address the situation. The protesters also visited the Imo State House of Assembly, where the leadership pledged to set up a committee to look into the matter. 1 Like |

Published On: Fri, Jul 18th, 2014 Education | By Imo Marine University Comes on Stream Soon A year ago, the Imo state government announced the establishment of the first ever Marine University in Africa situated at Ose-motto, Ogula local government area of the state, close to the federal government-funded seaport and naval base project sites. CHIDIEBERE IWUOHA takes a look at the challenges the young university may face Governor Rochas Okorocha told the media during a visit to the proposed site that with the issue of land now settled, work would commence and the university which would be the first of its kind in Africa would be of benefit to the host community, Imo State and Nigeria. The governor had revealed that the primary phase of the project would cost about N2.5 billion, comprising the construction of the perimeter fencing, landscaping of the administrative blocks, classrooms and hostels. He further disclosed that the Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ISOPADEC) would fund the project, stressing that the commission had sufficient resources to execute the project. Okorocha had pledged that the university would be ready to admit its first set of students in the next two years, adding that the state Government was collaborating with the Korean Marine University after a visit by the ISOPADEC Board to the institution to understudy its programme. He appreciated the efforts of the people of Ose-motto community in the donation of a parcel of land for the university’s project as well as the sitting of the federal government’s Sea Port and Naval base projects which he noted, would be of great advantage to the institution. The Managing Director of ISOPADEC, Prince Dr. Henry Okafor, in his speech, said that the commission had the financial capacity to undertake the development of the first phase of the project. He expressed appreciation to the governor for approving the site and acknowledged that the Ose-moto people were anxious to witness the successful execution of the project. He further added that when completed, the project would guarantee them service in the oil companies. Legal backing It is no longer news that the necessary legal backing had been accorded the young university by the Imo state House of Assembly. The Majority Leader, Mrs. Adaku Ihuoma who also represents Aboh Mbaise in the lead debate on the law disclosed the economic and social benefits of the university if put in place, adding that the academic needs were enormous. Hon. Ihuoma further stressed that advance learning in marine related areas would be a plus to the nation and beyond. After much deliberations on the desirability or otherwise to the establishment of the university, the speaker said the establishment of the institution would improve human lives.. ISOPADEC factor What could be regarded as the real situation report on the Imo Marine University was tendered by the Managing Director of Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ISOPADEC), Prince. Dr Henry Okafor, also an indigene of Ose-moto, the host community of the university, sounded it loud and clear that construction work was on-going and that anybody who wanted to verify was free to visit the site. He however blamed heavy rains for the slow pace of work in the institution as no contractor would do a serious job during rainy season. He said that the 1.8 kilometers dual carriage access road to the institution was being hampered by the rainy season, adding that only 1 kilometer had successfully been stone-based with tones of stone base heaped all over the place. Okafor disclosed that a hostel of about 78 to 90 rooms, two classroom blocks, and Administrative blocks, a workshop and gate house were being constructed at the site, while thousands of blocks, irons, and rods were waiting to be used for construction. He expressed optimism that by December this year, three or four blocks would be completed to ensure the first phase of its construction, while further construction could go on while learning commenced. But he was quick to mention that it was subject to the mercy of the rains. On the need to have other maritime activities around the university, the ISOPADEC managing director said that a contract was awarded by the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua to construct an Inland Port and that it had reached 70% completion, adding that the project was situated 2 kilometers away from the Maritime University just like the one he saw in South Korea when he went to understudy the one in Pusam. He was hopeful that the students of the Imo State Maritime University would use the inland port for training. http://www.blueprint.ng/2014/07/18/as-imo-marine-varsity-comes-on-stream/ |

Stop messing my humble state with that cursed Igala boy Chino. Ndianambra hope you've seen it. The ball is in your court to decide Chino's fate in your thread. Because we in Imo have already declared him an outcast, the same goes with Ndi Ebonyi and Ndi Enugu. bendovex:Imo people will decide his fate. And mind you, the more the gang up against him the more support his gets from Ndi Imo. Even your Oga Ihedioha knows that his chances of becoming Governor of Imo state is limited. Imo is not going back to the hands of Ihedioha and his PDP plunderers. Rochas may not have exceeded expectations, but still we in Imo know he has a good heart. Unlike those with no meaningful developmental plan for the state. One thing I know is that Ndi Imo will never allow the state fall into the hand of plunderers. We don't want to shed tears in the future like our neigbouring state Abia. |

Shut up nobody is comparing anything here with anybody but it does not change the fact that Owerre is a complete slum and stagnated town without improvement almost over 38years of creation. Yes Awka as a young state capital beats Owerre your useless harlot infested slum. The only thing Owerre has over Awka is prostitution.. As for Onitsha do not bark yet because Onitsha equally beats Owerre hands down even though its not even an economic city.. Get your own pictures I am ever ready for you lots, its fight to finish..
