Let me add this, I went towards FUTO and I was disgusted at the current state of the Police headquarters built by Rochas and I think Prison headquarters or so. Is the present administration telling me those huge complexes will be left to totally decay? Some parts of the police headquarters are already falling apart

Na wa oooooooooo...

Special mention to the developers building estates around FUTO busstop, they are doing a really great job. I saw atleast two estates there and they've gone really far. Infact one already had some residents. Im sure those estates will open that area of Obinze. They've cleared roads already, just to connect light. People with lands around there have started putting dwarf fences, earnestly waiting for the estates

Real estate in Owerri is the bomb, but it still lacks grandeur luxury lifestyle estates. I really hope private investors will consider that soon enough.

you are saying hope has abandoned certain roads in orlu because he has issues with one or two orlu men meanwhile hope is from orlu zone and you were happy when sc announced him as governor..you were always criticising ihedioha when he was still in power now you are saying hope has abandoned the roads ihedioha started....it is also the same way you were saying rochas abandoned orlu because he had issues with some orlu men
That guy makes very unreasonable claims. How can somebody choose to punish his own people because he has beef with one or two persons from the community? Very childish and unreasonable.

Hope Uzodinma?? From Orlu?? Go do research on Hope Uzodinma and Orlu before you write.

This is one of the major roads in Orlu.
This one is even good compared to the other urban roads in the town.

What's the name and where in Owerri is it? The staircase has the same design with the hotel of Rochas' son inlaw.

Unlike some people, I actually like the fact that hotels are springing up everyday in Owerri. I'll welcome any sort of investment as long as they're legal.

However, i'm waiting for someone to build a super mega hotel. Like a more modern version of Imo Concorde Hotel or Presidential Hotel Port-hacourt with an olympic size swimming pool. There are some big hotels in Owerri but not as big as these hotels I stated and i'm usually dissapointed with the swimming pools of these hotels and it's not just a problem in Owerri but Nigeria. I hate fish pond looking hotels.

I actually saw the plan of 12storey proposed hotel in Owerri, super nice but construction is yet to be initiated.
The proposed Hilton hotel Owerri is just 90 rooms.
I share your sentiment greatly, we need something grandeur

That would be great. Though I also like that smaller hotels because they show that the hotel market/boom is open to the common person. Those mega hotels are the work of multinationals and government cooperative. Meanwhile the others are the work of regular investors.

I want to ask those who are at home, how much demand is there for office space at home? This is a market you never hear about. I know ppl are open offices in Owerri but idk the market for that. Modern multi-story office spaces by the way, not run of the mill bungalows

I reckon there wouldn't be much of a demand for office space in highrise buildings in Owerri as the city doesn't have the sort of political-economy that can support them, unlike what we see with cities like Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Kaduna. Had the federal gov't ministerial and regulatory bodies and oil and gas coys included Owerri in the administrative map of the hydrocarbon industry of Nigeria, like they've done with Lagos, Port Harcourt and (to a lesser extent) Yenagoa, where highrises have grown organically as a consequence of demand, then by now highrises would have dotted all over the Owerri skyline! Uyo is a case in point, where their Dakada highrise building still remains largely empty long after completion because hardly any oil and gas coy or industry regulatory body is headquartered in the state!

High rise buildings won't be empty in Owerri especially if it's multi purpose built, goons in Owerri pay as much as 2.5million naira for modern office space annually here.

Oil companies are leaving Nigeria, and PH is gradually becoming unlivable (imagine trying to invite quality professionals to a place known for soot and won't solve the issue anytime soon). So there is actually a vaccum in the region for cosmopolitan living. In the whole east the only place that comes close to providing the experience is Owerri, and PH is losing it's grip on that. Calabar was slated to be the original 'tourist city' of Nigeria, and Owerri has also taken that crown as well (Uyo will be stiff competition).

So in the whole east, 'professionals' don't really have a landing place. There are few places I can tell someone who wants to live a 'modern life' to move to in the east. Not that the standard of living isn't there and the modernity isn't there but there are missing pieces like modern offices. So that's why my mind is looking in that direction.

I think we have follow follow mentality in the SE. So the demand for offices is (my theory) very high but nobody has put their foot out. Look at Onitsha. One person built upstairs and the rest was history. So I think Owerri is ideal. I think there is a demand and the places that provide the lifestyle are gradually losing a hold of it.

The difference between Uyo and Imo is Ibom has more government muscle than it has business muscle, and Imo has the business muscle with 0 government muscle. So the government has created buildings that the business culture cannot satisfy in Uyo. It is a better place on paper than it's citizens are ready to make it. Meanwhile in Owerri people are using hotel rooms as offices. So that's why I think the demand is there. Plus the major brands need a landing place for their SE presence and again PH is dying.

This is nice to hear, I'll keep it in mind. I think after the hotel boom comes the office boom. Do you know how many diasporans (the people largely responsible for the hotel boom) want an office near their village? Nobody wants to go to Lagos again, but the need for an office is still there.

Ikengawo stop confusing organised commercial sex hawking in Owerri to tourism. There's nothing like tourism in owerri but a large army of commercial prostitutes.

Aside the aforementioned, there's no other form of private sector employment opportunities in owerri.

Again building office spaces in Owerri, is it for who? Are there any white or blue collar economic activities in Owerri aside what I stated in the first paragraph?

Imo state government should create the kind of enabler/economy that will diversify the state economy away from the usual sex market in Owerri.

Most imo indigenes living in southeast are either living in PH, Onitsha, Enugu, etc, and visit Owerri/mo state during festive seasons. This is because if they were to base in Owerri/Imo state they would be poor because the economy of imo state is not diverse enough for people to base there.

The reason only hotels thrives in Owerri is because there's a large army of commercial prostitutes in the town(due to high unemployment rate), maybe because of more tertiary institutions in one location. There should be a mix in the economy of imo state in order to diversify it and draw people to reside in that town, if not Owerri will continue to remain a town known for organised commercial sex cartels.

IMO STATE PUBLIC ENLIGHTENMENT

NEW RING CULVERT FOR WORLD BANK ROAD, OWERRI

The sections of the World Bank Road in Owerri along the Titanic Hotel/Cubana axis will now have a ring culvert in addition to the existing double side drainage along both sides of the road.

Already the laying of the ring culverts at the middle of the dual carriageway has started.

According to the Honourable Commissioner for Works, Imo State, Barrister Ralph Nwosu, the new additional drainage control system will eventually be channelled into a manhole that will take flood water from Umuguma /World Bank areas into the Nworie River.

The bolded is true!

If that Dakada highrise was say in Onitsha, Nnewi or Awka, i’m sure it would have been fully subscribed and heaving with life by now.

The one of businesses using hotel rooms for offices is equally true. I remember once going to visit a uncle of mine whose office was a room at Ikeja Sheraton. He was close friends with Michael Ibru, so that made it easier for him.

Owerri residents pay 800k to 1.5m naira for a 40x40 standard shops in ikenagbu area. A standard high rise building, which will be considered posh by Owerri standard that you say will be left empty. Am very sure it will sold out and the rooftops converted to a bar and a lounge trust me.

This is very reassuring. Im genuinely considering it. I think businesses all over the SE and beyond need a place to land.

Imagine being an investor in Owerri. You have modern liesure and entertainment, work in a standard pffice space and there's standard housing and schooling for your children. Owerri is a future mega-city. It's a hard place to say no to
