really, Jerome wasnt burnt and he almost singlehandedly translated the whole scriptures. If u are talking of wycliff and tydale, they both had adultrated bibles and translated without permission, they were tried by civil not church law and were found guilty and d civil law made it clear that their offence has a capital punishment.

Do you mind explaining why the apostles failed to translate into latin? Maybe you will also accuse them of wanting to stiffle the scriptures.

But this was not the case when latin became the language of the day and the bible was translated as such.

Note, in that era translating the bible was not that a common thing since there was no printing press.

When the bible got translated to latin, and many people then did made use of latin, but as time passes by then greek was no longer the languages of the day and the populace/future generation can no longer speak or read latin the need arises for the bible to be translated into a language spoken by people of different nation and tribes and tongues, but RCC will NEVER allow that to see the light of the day.

Laws were made outlawing any translation of the bible to other languages, putting the followers of christ at the hands and mercy of a few clergy that were able to speak and read latin language to explain the scriptures to the congregation.

OfCourse, this increases the influence of the church and clergy class.

But was that what the bible was meant for or it was to be made available to all men so that they can come to an accurate knowledge of truth? 1timothy 2:3,4.

When good and well intentioned individual attempt to translate the scriptures they were arrested, tag as heretics and burned alife on a revolving wheel with the bible hanging on their neck.

Some were beheaded and some were were killed hanging on a stake.

Judge for yourself if what they did was Good.

But this continued for a very long time in what is known as the dark ages.

You I know that english is not our mother language yet here we are communicating in english because it commonly spoken in nigeria even more than Nigeria's indigenous languages.

Likewise in the ancient rome latin and greek were the generally spoken languages in the then known world and everyone who could read and write were familiar with this two languages.Anyone saying the catholic church wanted to stiffle the knowlege of the scriptures is far from the truth.

In case you don't know the catholic church was responsible for the delineation of the bible into chapters to facilitate easy referencing.Why should it get to these lengths if it really wanted to stiffle the scriptures.

Mind you there were other biblical translations which were carried out without the translators being executed.
