If i can remember correctly, this is the way sudan used to split their country. It will reach a stage in which a region will seek opportunity to vote to stay with nigeria or not. Is just the easy way to break away and without firing a single gun shot. But nevertheless, its a good call especially now. |

In as much as this is what we all crave for but its most likely going to be an exercise in futility.Reasons are: 1.National Assembly which is saddled with the responsibility of making laws will frustrate this attempt with the excuse that the Confab is ursuping their duty. 2.Government will invoke clauses or No Go Areas. 3.The same old politicians who brought us to this critical state are still going to be our representatives there. 4.The Ethnic nationalities will never reach a compromise. 5.We already have the PRONACO and NPRC reports. The government can save money by utilizing those reports. |

Sky Blue:U failed to address my argument which is d fundamental basis of a SNC:if u say u wudnt use a subsisting NASS,how do u elect d pple to debate in dis SNC;who chooses d topics to b discussed or will there b no-go areas;what do u now do wt d present NASS,in otherwords, what will b its role.I agree d NASS as we av it is flawed in structure, personel& inputs, but what is good for d goose is good for d gender,i.e,d presidency as presently constituted is also flawed using d same parameters;so if u bye-pass d NASS,u also av to bye-pass d presidency |

doctokwus: Read my last post to you again then get back to me, because it is obvious you didn't read it. And just to add to the side, what has been stopping NASS from debating these issues since? Sing another tune please. This is not about trying to make sure NASS saves face, there are more important things. |

If this is true then we are begining to see the end to our nations problem. I just hope that the people that are going to handle it will be sincere enough to deliver genuine result. |

Any SNC in which government declares the unity of Nigeria non-negotiable is a non-starter. No need to convene such 2 Likes |

I was initially excited but when I saw that the whole exercise would end up at the national assembly, I was like what is the purpose of the six months exercise? Why cant our representatives simply raise the issue on the floor and have a debate that would equally hold as if the report of the confab was submitted to them. The confab is DOA and the regions scared of a true federalism or dissolution of this entity would make sure the status quo is retained. |

Don't fall for some watered down conference with corrupt elites with obvious corrupt self interests sharing it. Just use the Aburi accord as a template to work from and we'll make some progress. |

Is this not the very Nairaland that every Prick and Harry always wanted a Sovereign Nation Conference to help you 'separate' Nigeria and form different countries ? Now all of you have started dancing Azonto with your opinions again. Come out and "Divide". 1 Like |

The most important question is: are the ethnic nationalities that make up the present Nigeria interested and committed to remain in Nigeria? Historically, a large forced political union like ours has never survived the test of time anywhere in the world. The continued attitude of apathy to a sovereign national conference without no-go areas, by Nigeria's political elites is detrimental to the survival of the present Nigeria . A stitch in time saves nine.. |

This shows that GEJ has interest of Nigerians at heart. He is a listening president.OBJ avoided this when he was in power. |

mymadam: A National Conference on its own will turn out to be a super exercise in futility and a possible criminal waste of tax-payers' money. The National Assembly, being the 'representatives of the Nigerian people' can handle that. What Nigerians want and deserve is a SOVEREIGN NATIONAL CONFERENCE, without no-go areas. The difference is clear. Well, we are waiting & watching. God bless Nigeria. Agreed with you National conference and even Sovereign National Conference will be a futile exercise. What Jonathan needs to do is to have a committee to map out the geographical line of dividing the country and present a time table for the division in peace. These conferences will just inflame feelings and will cause more anger and animosity . Let's just go our ways. No to conferences , they are a waste of time. 1 Like |

So wat. Even IBB (d maradona) held sovereign national conference and we all know what good it did Nigeria (nothing). So I ask u guys, so what if GEJ ones to hold one. Looks as much as it is a very good idea. As much as it may open room and space 4 brilliant minds 2 have their. We all know it would all be a waste of precious time and money if things discussed there don't help policy makers do their jobs better or help d government implement better things for the good of d country. Look d end is what matters not d beginning. |

koruji: President GEJ neither has the drive or intellectual background (sorry but this is true) to mid-wife a re-structuring of the Nigerian nation. Some people just don't know when, what and who to criricise. When GEJ hasn't approved, the conference,u criticised, now he approves it and u are still criticising. Are u under spell to criticise everything? The success and failure of the conference depends on those thugs and crroks u call senators and honourables at the senate and house of rep |

Waste of Time and money. The same old idiots who have run this country down will come and talk nonsense about what should or should not be. Its just gonna be another jamboree- nothing meaningful's gonna come out it. Jonathan doesnt apear to have priorities thats why he caves into cheap pressures. I weep for my dear Nigeria |
