ROSSIKE: Another Useless, worthless, garbage report.instead of u to make your comment, u choose to insult Nigerians cos of what they choose to believe or not. I know British activities in Nigeria from 1851 to 1960 and 1967 to 70 played no small role in Nigeria's underdevelopment, so I know they don't love Nigeria. But, that doesn't mean I will deny reality because of the source. U said something about Nigerians not using their brains, but I can tell u our brains don't need European school's refinement to know that the Nigerian Army is a microcosm of the larger Nigerian society to know the level of corruption in there. If the British society is light years ahead of Nigeria's in terms of development what kind of brain made u think the Nigerian army is metres behind their army? When u talk to your European friends, lie to them as u like but don't do it with us Nigerians. If u want to make other Africans around u feel proud of u as a Nigerian, fine. Can u lie to ur neighbours that ur father drives an SUV, when he drives a VW golf? 1 Like |

Madawaki01: Www.beegeagle. I actually read the article. All i can say is its high time we withdraw our men from any war front in africa or elsewhere. I believe the article was aimed at rubbishing the long established image of the nigerian army. Lets come to think of it, the article was written by a Ghanaian report for the uk guardian. We know the antecedents of these backstabbers, they are at it again, they will go to any length to rubbish anything Nigerian. He specifically pointed out that our army lacked discipline and were corrupt, can any of the worlds army claim not to have a degree of these flaws. Nigerias ragtag army will do far better than any well equipped army in the region. I think its time the Ghanaian take over and stop whimpering like babies. 1 Like |

Who don't you read about the military Ops launched by the technologically and numerically superior US Marine Corp against Shia insurgents in Najaf, Iraqi. Even after they had warned civilians to evacuate. Find out how many days it lasted, the casualty report, compare it with Nigerian military Ops against BH and get back to me. You can also read about Russian military Ops against Muslim insurgents in both Chechnya and Dagenstan for more comparison. 1 Like |

emmysenior: Let's not allow the wicked to mind trap us. Often times, people hypnotise the public through the media. If the above statement is true, then, why was Nigeria army ranked no. 4th in the world weeks ago. Nonsense.Thank you for that. Nigeria Army was recently ranked 4th in the world for peacekeeping by the UN. The person that wrote this article should come out publicly to defend this report if he got balls. Nonsense! |

ROSSIKE: Another Useless, worthless, garbage report. Your imbecility grows daily. El Rufai's analysis tells you that the money allocated to the Nigerian Army for purchase of weaponry and equipment in 2012 is just 5.7 billion naira, or 36 million dollars. What the heck can that buy? We're still using 1950s era main battle tanks and artillery...and you're here calling this report a 'fraud' just because of your anti-western slant. I know many people who hate the west but still have common sense. Why are you so daft? |

nagoma: Nigerians will not heed an advice. Go on continue playing the ostrich. They are telling you that corruption has eaten up your fighting force and some analysis was provided. But all you can do is to shout blue murder. Why can't you produce a counter analysis to show how the ever increasing military and security budget has improved the armed forces' capability and effectiveness? ^^^^Good point. I notice no one has really countered the points made in the OP's second post. Are those points valid or not? Some posters here have become very defensive about the newsreport. I can assure them that the same things said in the newsreport about Nigerian troops have been said about the british army & the US army for years - these major shortcomings (low morale, lack of kit and indiscipline) were brought into sharp relief in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The press in the US and the UK did not hide these things - a web search will confirm this. This is not the time for false nationalism. If there is no merit in the newsreport, then ignore it. If there is, act on it. That's what serious people do. |

I simply don't agree with this, if they lack kits could understand[who is even suppose to provide the kits after supplying manpower?] our soldiers poorly trained capital NO. |

Well truely Nigerian army may be.a strong force in peacekeeping and are reliable due to the quantity of military personnel discharged for duty- but I know one thing they lack rexpeckt for others GBAM!! As for inexperience well I know we need more training to match 21st century status |

Not sure if this report is correct but I have always known that corruption will bring down this country. THEY WILL CHOP AND CHOP AND CHOP SO TEYYYYY THEM GO CHOP EVEN DEFENCE/ARMY MONEY FINISH. Then this country will be a sitting duck.Bookmark this one.. Nigeria will not go down because of boko haram or massob or mend. It is the lack of resources to maintain a modern security force that will kill this country,. Wasnt that the same reason given by Malu during the bakassi tussle under OBJ? 60 thousand barely equiped men will balkanise under a sustained assault by a mad citizenry someday |
Re: UK Guardian - Nigerian Army's In A Shocking State by solbil: 7:13pm On Nov 10, 2012 |
VolvoS60:those points ave beeen countered already unless you are the one whos not seeing it due to the fact that your fraustration over nothing has blinded you to true and sound analysis. I was going to gwagwalada campus from uniabuja permanent site after reading what people said about kits. I took my time to notice the kits the guys were puting on and there is absolutly nothing wrong with it! There is absolutely no difference between what the put on and what we see american soldiers put on in afghanistan. Absolutely no difference. |

ROSSIKE: Another Useless, worthless, garbage report. You definitely don't live in Nigeria. The Nigerian Army we know of and see everyday on our streets extorting innocent people and fighting with policemen is the Nigerian Army the report is describing. The same Nigerian Army that is still battling with Normads and cattle rearers with bows and arrows in Jos. Its the same Nigerian Army that still cannot contain oil bunkering in the Niger Delta. The same Nigerian Army soldiers that small boys with AK-47's and home made bombs are killing with so much ease in Bornu and Yobe. |
Re: UK Guardian - Nigerian Army's In A Shocking State by solbil: 8:42pm On Nov 10, 2012 |
@owobokiri, the report cannot be true. How else can we explain it to you people who are just blinded by fraustration. Ok, lets take one by one. He said the NA cant fight on the front line. But the NA have done it before in seria leone, liberia, DRC, CIV. And if you say that is old school even though they are within the last decade, i will tell you about dafur. We are still doing the shooting there. I hope i have countered one of the points in the report. The report said they are poorly equiped. But we just comissioned a locally made warship. We also comissioned amored personel carrier. Our air force made their UAV (drone) sometime ago. |

Ogojohn: sometimes some fellows at this forum needs there brain to be removed and be re twikkd. How could they easily believe those trash. Nigerian army is a force to be feared in Africa. Ask Major General Maxwell Khobe of the blessed memory. His type still abound in our army. Why was Lungi international Airport at Freetown renamed Khobe international Airport. Some folks needs to go back to history class. Tell them! General Khobe's tactical command of the capture of Freetown was celebrated. The man was in the field for two days and nights with his troops. Interviewed later he said he was in the swamps along with his men fighting! What a General indeed. He was to later die from his injury saving Serra Leonians from their fellow murderous citizens. Despite being maligned by virtually all sides in the conflict he stood his ground. He died and left his family with just a few meager possessions. He was a General's General, a real man and above all he was a NIGERIAN SOLDIER! |

CIA sponsored article. They are just trying to water the ground for the so called US Africom. This write up is straight from a template in their department of psycho-warfare. What a shabby attempt. I'm sure it was done by an intern. Do not fall for it peeps. I'm talking from experience. @Seun FYI. Nairaland is on their list of key social pulse sites. KSPS. Its being monitored by a rather funny looking intern called K2. Peace I'm otta here. |
