A war has just been declared on the use of Niqab (Veil) by Muslim female students in Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife as the institution’s security operative has begun arresting some of the Muslim sisters who use veil on campus in the last one month.


There was the case of a veiled woman who came to visit her relatives in the university but who was denied access at the university’s Main Gate by OAU security personnel on the ground that she did not reveal her identity. CampusDelight learnt from a reliable source that the woman was a relative to the Chief Imam of the university.


Subsequent to this was the arrest of a female Muslim student who was also reported to have used the face veil. It was gathered that the lady was arrested in the morning and was not released until late in the night despite the determined effort of the executive members of the Muslim Student Society of Nigeria (MSSN) to get her out at once.


This war on an Islamic dress code reached its pinnacle on Tuesday 13th November, 2012 at about five in the evening when a veiled female Muslim student, who had once been arrested for using Niqab, was re-arrested by the security officers at the Oduduwa Hall of the university where the lady was said to have gone to attend an inaugural lecture.
