Guess which big banks rank the top 3 with the highest Foreign Currency Translation Reserves and their order as at 1st January 2023 ?

1. First Bank N53.7bill
2. UBA. N41.7bill
3. Access N30.1bill
4. Zenith Bank N24.95bill
5. FCMB. N12.5bill
6. GTCO. (-N4.bill)

All as at 1st January 2023.

Should influence income statement in H1and if the ratio of First Bank is anything to go by i.e N53.667 to N210.16 bill = x3.916 , the maths could be interesting. Let’s see how the maths plays out with Zenith Bank H1 first.

Great tip to gaining insight. I hope all the banks computed out that column using the same approach.

This means UBA & FCMB are relatively under-priced compared to their piers. Perhaps Mr Market is penalizing them for being stingy with dividends and taking their financial statements with pinch of salt grin.

I thought over this too.
But maybe some metrics we are not aware of… we are not even sure what rates they used for the initial translation.

Also note that the X4 accommodates the initial sum. Without the initial it would be a ratio of 53.667:156.495=2.9

How do you check the current prices please?
aj8:
MY COMMON SENSE ENTRY POINT for Berger Paints as at 19-07-2023 is any price below N10.00 . TARGET above N12.00 with an upside target above 20%. I bought some units and will add more to my purchase if it falls below my initial buy point.

You shouldn't be responding to every comment. Disclosure: I am in Japaul though not as heavily as I would have loved to before the analysis paralysis.

I am not sure I have understood your question but if you meant what is today’s current price, I suggest you check on the NGX platform with your stock broker. However, if you meant how I deduce the My Common Sense Entry Point, I would just say..COMMON SENSE based on what the market is doing which is a function of expectations of those buying into it. Call it support and resistance but really in a layman understanding it’s the meeting point of demand and supply. Think in the same line as one buying crayfish from a market less on TA .
