there's a difference btween Oroma & oru- oma. Oroma is not a borrowed Igbo word. Oroma means Orange. that's why u see its usage in lime - Oroma nkirisi - which means the tiny type of orange or the smallish orange. Oroma is not usually given as names in igbo land, but u neva can tell, igbos are getting funky with new innovative names |

What's the real meaning of Makachi? All I know is 'maka' means what and 'chi' means God. So does it just translate literally to 'What God'? That doesn't make much sense |

Nwannam, maybe you can assist me. How is it that Ojiugo is both white Kola and beautiful, when Oji means Kola or black abi? And Ugo is eagle. Am I missing the various phonetic symbols perhaps? |

ChinenyeN, I was hoping you could help me with something. I'd like to know the meanings of 'Akwaeke' and 'Akwugo'. It seems like the 'akwa' component translates to egg and ugo meaning eagle/glory. It is really confusing. cc:bigfrancis21 |
Re: Igbo Names & Their Meanings by bigfrancis21: 5:04pm On Oct 07, 2016 |
RedCapChief: Ya, you're right. Akwaugo literally means 'the egg of an eagle'. 'akwaeke' would then literally mean 'egg of a python'. 2 Likes |

Chimaaba: Ojiugo is often used to describe a woman. Im not sure if it means 'eagle's kola' going by literal interpretation. |
Re: Igbo Names & Their Meanings by AjaanaOka(m): 5:45pm On Oct 07, 2016 |
bigfrancis21: There is a rare, highly-valued cream-coloured variety of kolanut called ojiugo. Used as a name, the implication is that the person so named is as valuable as the kola oji ugo. 2 Likes |
Re: Igbo Names & Their Meanings by ChinenyeN(m): 6:40pm On Oct 07, 2016 |
RedCapChief: bigfrancis21: BigFrancis21 is correct in the translation, but I will add to his response. In the context of names, Akwaeke translates as something between "precious" and "vulnerable". In context of names, Akwaugo would translate as something between "rare" and "not easy to come by". 5 Likes |
