To think that 90% of Nigeriens that Come into Nigeria, do so without the 'Ecowas passport' leaves much to be desired of the Customs and Immigration Officials @ the border. corruption is now the bane of the society we live in. we point fingers @ those in power, while we ourselves are not entirely saints. You are wrong sir. 1) in the 50s -60s, the Northern regional government encouraged and heavily invested in agriculture with produces like cotton, groundnuts, hides and skin being the main products. 2) the regional government had commodity marketing boards which buy these farm produces ,graded and repackaged them for export via seaports in Lagos. 3) at the point of export, the department of customs levied EXPORT DUTY on every tonne of groundnuts, cotton, hides&skin exported. 4) the marketing boards get Foreign exchange on selling their goods and pay the money to the coffers of their regional government. 5) the department of customs pay the revenues collected into FEDERATION account to be shared among ALL the governments of Nigeria based on allocation. 6) the same policy was applied to the EXPORT of Cocoa, Timber, Palm oil, rubber, coal exported from the South. anonimi: 1 Like 1 Share |
