Dog Owners, Please Help. by Nobody: 3:11am On Jan 05, 2013
Ok, I wasn't sure where to post this topic, culture was the best option. *sorry odumchi*

What's the average cost of buying a dog?

Wht's the monthly maintenance cost?

Feeding cost?

Cleaning?

Which type of dog requires the less attention?

Which is the best option for a grad student; puppy or gull grown dog?

Dog training etc?

I'm planning on getting a dog by the end of this summer. Please help smiley

Type of Dog I want:

Sporting Dogs

This dog breed is usually very alert and attentive. This makes them well likeable and overall they will have good character and personality. Popular breeds within this group are the Retrievers, Spaniels, Setters, Pointers and many more. Often very active dogs, potential owners should realize that they will need regular exercise.

Let's just say I want a huge, scary-looking dog.
I don't want a dog that sheds a lot.

1. Doberman Pinscher

2. German Shepherd

3. German Shorthaired Pointer

4. Great Dane (my #1 choice)

5. Labrador Retriever

6. Rottweiler

7. Siberian Husky

I'd get a Golden Retriever but they shed a lot. I don't want hair all over my clothes.

You should also take off the Husky as they also shed a lot as well. I have owned one and if not that you don't like the hair thing I would have recommended it as it's quite easy to train and feed.

@Ileke Idi Where are Greyhounds on your list?
Sporting dogs would be perfect and don't forget exercise is good for your body and mind and greyhounds meets your specs perfectly.

The rottweiler, Bull mastiff and pit bull terrier.
Below is one of the cutest pit Bull I've seen.

That's what I love about him. He's a Pitbull terrier and they are supposed to be the most aggressive dog species but you can see from the look on his face that he's not in any way near that.
*******so cute.

I guess you really don't know much about dogs because greyhounds and one of the most athletic dogs you can get. They are naturally built sprinters and distance runners.
More like the Jamaicans of Dogs.
Haven't you seen them in the bookies racE tracks?

The Bull mastif on it's own part are one of the most powerful dogs you can get. They are built tough and strong so what else do you need in a dog.

I don't know about there in the states but here in Naija, price of such dogs can range from between 100K to 250K pretty outrageous but that's how much value they command here. Price also depends on where they are coming from because some are usually flown in.

I have a Vet Doctor friend and Neighbour who helps me out with mine so I'm pretty much on the safe side.
Re: Dog Owners, Please Help. by Nobody: 8:19pm On Jan 05, 2013
I mean, in terms of feeding and health insurance?

Feeding costs next to nothing and as for health insurance, even human beings no get here for naija talk less of dog.

Cost of treatment can be pretty high sometimes but manageable.

I like Rots too but they can be a little bit on the aggressive side whEn mature. As you can see BM looks bigger and stronger yet more sensitive and meek.
Just see the look on that one's face.
The facial structure also makes it look like they drool but they don't.
Re: Dog Owners, Please Help. by Nobody: 8:35pm On Jan 05, 2013
^^^ Hey, thanks.

Nice information, hope you're still on NL when I get my dog. I may have more questions for you then smiley

If you allow them run all over your furniture or clothes it most definitely will. If you can keep them in a kennel outside you couldn't ask for a more loyal, fierce guard (puppy fierce though lol) yet gentle pet.

Mine was pure white lemme get a pix.
